Or you realize you're a significant public figure with a huge platform, and you use that to highlight something wrong with society. I'm pretty solidly in favour of that. And their employers seem to be for the most part too.

Cool. I've just started taking more of an interest in it, and so have a lot of people.

Damn, now I really wish I'd gone there when I was in BC in July. Are they going to look for a new place to operate?
-
You'd be hard pressed to get that anywhere - even on a turbine DZ - unless of course you're talking about Eloy or Perris.

If you die in Canada, do you die in real life?

You do, but we don't send a bill to your family. Also, there are great bewbs here. -
Academics should be the first criteria to decide where you go, but from a cost of living perspective, Victoria would have my vote - I visited both Vic and Van this summer, and I could see myself living in Victoria very easily. Capital City Skydiving was a great place - the people I met there (for just one jump!) were awesome, and made me feel very welcome. They enabled me to jump in Tofino as well, and helped me get some gear I left behind back. Skydive Vancouver (I didn't make it to Pitt Meadows) was expensive and it's in the middle of nowhere, but good people for sure. There's also Skydive Vancouver Island in Qualicum Beach - and everyone speaks super highly of Gord, who runs in - indeed, I didn't jump there because I had the chance to go to Tofino, and he was trying to help organize getting gear I forgot at CCS back to me. Definitely a great community on the Island.

It's not impossible to stall - but it takes a whole lot of effort - I can both toggle and riser stall my zp.exe 215 - but it takes a few wraps to toggle stall it. my 185 I can toggle stall pretty easily - first jump on it I wanted to find the stall points and did easily. The nylon feels totally different than any other canopies I've handled, but it's not difficult to handle, just takes practice packing like anything else.
-
Easy answer for this one, too. When you elect insane people who are totally unqualified for public office, like Donald Trump, all of us are also impacted.
-
Ah, apparently they still have inventory of larger zp.exe canopies available. I have a zp.exe 215 shiny and ready to go but that would be too small I think.

I can help with this. If you stop being obsessed about other people's sexuality and their lives, you'll feel a whole lot better. If you're so confused about homosexuals, just stop thinking so much about it. When Canada brought in marriage equality over a decade ago, it took a matter of weeks and people completely stopped caring, because we all have way better things to do with our lives. Oh, and the most beautiful part of it all? Marriage equality exists in Canada because of a Christian church which found and exploited a loophole in the law. They used an old custom called Publication of Banns to circumvent the need to obtain a marriage license, married a couple, and then sued the Government of Ontario to get the marriage registered. That turned into the case that brought us marriage equality.

You can't buy a "new" one I don't think, I get the impression they have not made them in years. The Volt is the replacement for it. I got mine at about the same stage as you, jumpwise. I have a ZP.exe 215 loaded at about 1.14. It's pretty square, I don't know why it would be called anything but. It definitely works better for me with a two-stage flare - my biggest complaint about it is in low winds I have a hard time getting enough out of it to do anything but slide. The other thing people instantly notice about them is the nylon they're made from feels very different than what the Sabres and the like you're used to feels like - it's thicker and ... stickier? It also opens pretty snappy if you're careless packing it.

The shape is definitely and noticably different. I tried both - the sizing for them is very different as well as the shape - I found that the KiSS fit better, though I had to get it in XXL to really fit comfortably once I tried looking up and arching. The other helmet to look at in the same vane is the Bonehead Aero - friend has one and sings its praises constantly.

I don't understand how you guys do it down there. I broke my fibula - didn't take an ambulance, but my out of pocket expenses for the whole thing amounted to about a couple hundred bucks for two trips to the ER, surgery, follow ups at the fracture clinic, and a year of physiotherapy.

There wasn't any "argument" to attack, that's what we were all laughing at.

It all makes sense, really: https://beta.theglobeandmail.com/life/the-hot-button/study-links-low-intelligence-with-right-wing-beliefs/article543361/?ref=http://www.theglobeandmail.com&

Me too - starting skydiving did wonders for my mental health and confidence. It made me a whole lot of amazing friends and gave me more of a sense of purpose in life. -
Silly question.. what is "RW training"
Lawndarter replied to thetreehugger's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You'll need to do five jumps with a Coach 2 for this - the things you're learning are basically "Get There, Stay There, Get Away" - it'll cover linked and unlinked exits, matching levels, getting to docks, and basics of belly flight like sideslides, some basic formations, breaking off and tracking away, and so on. -
It was so unconstitutional no one even bothered to challenge it. I'm old enough to remember when Republican idiots screeched about executive orders being manifestly evil - until Lord Cheeto took office, and then they somehow became a mark of his "leadership". Trump's attack on DACA is one of the stupidest things he's done yet, and that is saying something, because I can't really find anything he has done that isn't stupid.

Sounds like you're looking to do a tandem - if you can get to Tofino on a Monday, check out Point Break Skydiving - they do tandems on Mondays using Capital City Skydiving's Cessna 182 and TIs. The view is incredible. https://www.facebook.com/pointbreakskydiving/ is their website, you need to book in advance.

Capital City Skydiving is awesome - when I was out there the beginning of July I only got in a hop'n'pop because I went up with an IAD student, but the view was still awesome, and Bob's a great guy. Being there got me the chance to go jump up in Tofino the next day too, which was amazing. I jumped at Skydive Vancouver - the Kodiak's a beautiful plane, but paying $40 and only going to 10,000' was a little over the top. I didn't get a chance to check out Pitt Meadows. Gord at Skydive Vancouver Island was really helpful in trying to sort out some issues I had there, but I didn't get to jump at his place this time.

Dan Holst offers them out of Perris. His facebook page is Balloon Skydive and he posts on there of upcoming jumps - I went with him in February, and it was outstanding.

Finally taking that job as Maitre D' at TGI Fridays? Or headed to Walmart? -
I've read this threat with a lot of interest. I'm really new - I started two years ago and got injured during my course, was out for a year and came back. My first bunch of jumps off student status were mostly solo just trying to get more relaxed in the air, because having hurt myself, I tended to get nervous having anything more to do than just that, and trying to fly my canopy better. I got my A right at the end of the season here and went to Elsinore in December to do Flight 101-102, but it was cancelled, and instead I joined one of their (amazing) EXCEL camps. Winds kept us from doing more than one jump, but even still I learned a lot about RW, about how to plan and log jumps better, and how to build some skills. Back home, there's a lot of those freeflyers you describe, but there's also some really good bellyflyers, and so I signed up for some coaching on 4-way and had an absolute blast - it was completely worth the slots I paid for to get some idea about RW. Landing after turning six points was really cool, and having done that little bit I now get invited to do more of them, from people with way more experience who are helping my dial in a lot of skills. Some of the jumps are comical for what goes wrong, but even then it's so much more fun. So I don't think it's that RW is not "fun" anymore, but it's similarly not the only thing - lots of people just want to go do tracking or angle jumps or just pile on jumps until they can learn to wingsuit or swoop or whatever, and some don't. It doesn't much matter though, does it? I'm getting to enjoy RW even though I'm mediocre still, but just like every time I golf (which isn't often) I have one shot that keeps me thinking I'll go back, every jump I've been with others comes with some lesson or coaching or positive reinforcement to do it again. The last one we did, it was terrible. I was falling fastest, but decided to try to chase the others instead of laying the base, and it turned into what was described as a "dogfight" until we got a dock and pretty much ran out of altitude for anything else. I felt discouraged as hell until watching some video, seeing that my exit was actually really good, that we figured levels out quick, and then the guy who organized it said he couldn't wait to do another to fix some of it up. All that to say I guess it's a matter of making sure to find people with the same interests in that crowd, which is not all the same (and maybe it was a few years ago, I wasn't there to know) - some people don't find RW interesting. I don't have any real interest in learning to swoop. It's just preferences.
