Yes and No. It was more so Andrew Jackson and Manifest Destiny... it was when our Founders began to die off that the country began to go bad. Manifest Destiny is a perversion of Divine Providence. The purpose of the Commerce Clause was to prevent states from imposing tariffs on out of state goods. The very reason the country came together under the Constitution to form a new government, was to get rid of the ruinous taxation that were occurring under the Articles.
