  1. I'm not so sure about that. You might want to give a little consideration to who you're talking to. Ray has been jumping far longer than you or me and he's forgotten more about BASE than I know. He's a solid jumper with solid ethics but he does enjoy stirring up some shit once and a while. You're obviously entitled to your own opinion, but you might want to stop for a second and think about the possibility that you may be talking to someone who will be around long after you and I go in. Just a thought. Ray, call me damnit I want to make a jump tomorrow night.
  2. The harness/container systems you have listed under Consolidated Rigging are being built by Asylum Designs now. CR is still doing the Ace, Mojo, and BlackJack but now Marty is building the containers, components, and accessories as Asylum Designs. I think it would be more accurate to change them to Asylum in the review section.
  3. Ray, what the hell dude. Want to jump this week sometime? We didn't go to Moab. Give me a call.
  4. That's pretty funny. But just so you know, I'm not getting all dressed up in some silly costume like Batman's sidekick. Robin was such a fruitcake. If Batman can have a cool, sinister sidekick then we're in business. I think with my Dainese armor and my sinister black and red rig I could be a super hero too. Any ideas?
  5. I've seen/experienced super scary stuff on containers with no stiffeners in the side flaps. As long as you have stiffened sideflaps and a functional shrivel flap, I see no problem with the method you described. I've seen people use far less precise methods. Um, I watched one jumper put strips of paper towel in there... worked just fine. Have a good one!

    WEBSITE UPDATED!

I think a lot has to do with when the chart was made. Not too long ago, pins were scary and expert territory only. BASE is changing and I think that chart is pretty much outdated for anyone but students. You also have to keep in mind that this is BASE jumping and there can be no chart that will tell you what to do and have it be accurate for all jumps. I think a better chart would leave out the object height and tell you what pilot chute to use for a given delay and take into consideration the size canopy you're using. Then it will tell you approximately how long (in vertical feet) it will take you to get to linestretch. Where the ground is is pretty irrelevent. If you know you have to be open a certain vertical distance below the exit point to avoid obstacles and make a landing area, the freefall/delay charts are absolutely useless. I guess the real answer is get out there and jump with an experienced mentor. That's the only way you can really know what to do. (I don't mean you dude.)

All that stuff is on the www.basicresearch.com site? I couldn't find most of that stuff.

    SL question

The purpose of the webbing/rope/bridle/spectra sling/other stuff tied to the rail, is to keep the breakcord itself away from the anchor point. If the rail or beam or whatever is sharp or rough or has a small radius, and you tie the breakcord to it directly, the breakcord could part at a much lower load than desired. This could leave you in freefall with a closed container at a very low altitude. You want the breakcord attached until you're at linestretch- all the way at linestretch- before it parts. Let the super, overkill, strong piece of webbing take the abuse of the rusty jagged handrail and let the breakcord do it's job. Using a sling wrapped around the anchor point gives you more consistancy. When you're getting low, consistancy is the name of the game. Edit:clarity

    SL question

If I can find it I'll post it. I'll look. Edit: ~elapsed time:10 minutes... I have no idea where I put it. I know I have it around somewhere. Probably won't be able to find it for a while.

I also have heard nothing but good things about the Gargoyle. I was pretty close to ordering one myself but I went with Asylum.
  12. Thank you, you know who you are, got it!

    SL question

Well, you can get some from me. If you ever get your ass over to our place. I'll even put out some beer to see if I can lure you over. Want to hang out and make a jump this weekend?
  14. I personally put about 75 jumps on a FOX 225 non V-tech when I was starting. (I weighed about 140 pounds) I originally bought a FOX 205 but quickly learned that was waaaaay too small. I bought and jumped the crap out of an Ace 220 that is now in the posession of the NPS, and I often felt that the canopy was too small and fast for BASE. Especially in tight situations or sub-optimal landing areas. I'm now jumping the BlackJack 240 and I think that's just about right. I think I would be underloading a 260. I weigh about 140. You'll be fine at the Potato bridge but you'll definitely want something bigger if you're going to be jumping anything other than the bridge or tall A's with nice wide landing areas.

I think Tom A. says to leave it closed since it won't restrict the opening at all. I think he also thinks it's more dangerous to open the flap. You might want to PM him.
  16. Hey dude, I have some video of his earlier packjobs. Pretty scary stuff! I'm glad to hear they're more anal now. You guys need to get out here so we can play. The Kmonster will be getting her new PerigeePro in a day or two so you should come out. She'll also be hitting 100 in the next night or two. I'm excited!

    Bio

Hmmm... you should drop me an email sometime.
  18. I'm not saying it's impossible. I believe it's very possible and that's why I expect it to happen at any time, regardless of how careful I've been packing. I would like to see the video though. I'm not sure what we'll learn from it other than, "Look, it can happen" but still, I'd be very interested in seeing it.

    Bio

Excellent! I'd like to thank everyone who has posted a bio so far. It's fun to get a feel for other jumpers I've never met and to get a little side angle on the ones I have. Please if you haven't posted something yet, please do. You can be as anonymous as you want but it's all for fun so don't feel pressured. Have fun, Chad
  20. Hello everyone, I need an email or phone contact for Jeb. If anyone can help me out I'd greatly appreciate it. Until then, C-ya!
  21. While I personally have never heard of a lineover while a tailgate was in use and properly configured, I agree with the message in this post. Use the tailgate. Use the line mod. Be ready for a lineover, always.
  22. Damn, you two are awesome. They're my friends! They're my friends!
