An inch of rear riser on my Lightning will cause it to turn far more than an inch of toggle, but the response is considerably slower. There's definitely more control with toggles. I'm not likely to find myself in a two out because I don't have Cypres and my main is gone by the time I'm pulling the reserve handle. Bob

Yeah, that's the same thing I thought until I saw a C-17 fly directly over the peas under deploying canopies at Kapowsin. One guy opened to find himself on the level with the beast at roughly 300 yards. You could tell when the C-17 crew spotted him... Bob

Hey there Moody, At the risk of saying some Scarlet O'Hara drippy ass shit, tomorrow will be another day. Probably a better one ... and I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is: Go make a jump on me. Seriously, if you can cover the cost until I can get it to you, jump. You'll feel much better - you know you will. Hang in there ... this shit will pass. Bob

If you're really in Seatac, try the Double Tree lounge on highway 99. Lots of air crews stay there and I'm told it's usually a good time. Other than that, you need to go to Seattle. I have a Tri-160 in an Infinity that may work if you're looking to jump and the weather doesn't suck too bad this weekend (it's supposed to ). Bob

Everyone thinks it does nothing but rain here. At time it does (Oct - Mar; right now as a matter of fact ), but it's gorgeous otherwise and we have one of the best backdrops in the world in our backyard. I'll probably have to leave at some point, though. I'm retraining to be a helicopter pilot and the climate just isn't compatible with making a living that way. Bob
-
no but getting caught is especially for the pilot. I know a jumper who paid $1000 fine for bustinng a cloud. He accepted full responsibility and the pilot was not charged or fined. Bob

Too bad you aren't going through airport security. I'll bet the TSA droids wouldn't even notice.

I happy right here in the Seattle area.

What was the most unique or memorable jump you made in 2002?

The US canopy formation record dives at Lake Wales in November. It's hard to pick any single dive in particular; the 56-way was the largest. Bob -

Then her girlfriends should be telling her to ask Viking out the same way we're telling him to ask her out. Ask her out dude... Bob

Police Shoot Dog During Traffic Stop -- Had the wrong people. (OH MY GOSH!)
relyon replied to kevin922's topic in The Bonfire
The story doesn't say the police who pulled them over had the wallet or the details, only that they were mistakenly suspected of carjacking. It says an investigation showed the guy had forgotten his wallet, but doesn't say when the investigation took place. Bob -
Police Shoot Dog During Traffic Stop -- Had the wrong people. (OH MY GOSH!)

Argument? Huh? I was merely pointing out that the poster wrote they weren't there and didn't see what happened, but that the cop made a split second decision. The only real information I got from reading the article was a mistaken identity and a dead dog. Bob -

How do you know he made a split second decision? The only facts I've read are 1) some people were wrongly stopped/accused/detained and 2) their dog was intentionally shot by a policeman. Bob -
True inversion, no, but I've had the outside end cell rib as far in as the center cell between the B and C lines (ok, it was CRW). I was amazed I was able to work it out. On another occasion I had severe gusts fold the left side cleanly up under the right on final (about 50'). I could see the entire left topskin for a moment. My Lightning has saved my bacon more than once. Ok, enough "No shit, there I was ..." Bob

How does checking your rig in a gear bag constitute hiding it? Bob
-
Yeah, I was thinking of the latter. Now that you mention it, I remember the pouch as well. Thanks for clarifying. Bob

There's a great Chris Rock skit (he calls it an educational video) called "How To Not Get Your Ass Kicked By the Police". Unfortunately, it won't upload, so I'll try and find a link. Bob

Not me! I've lived through several earthquakes, a tornado, two hurricanes, numerous blizzards, floods, and windstorms, and a fire. The earthquakes were by far the most unpredictable and I had no control at all over the situtation. If I never experience another one it will be too soon... Bob

Here's a George Carlin one I've always liked: "Is God so great He can make a rock so big that He can't lift it Himself?" Not exactly a riddle, but what the heck. Bob

This is what I'm referring to. I've seen both Javelins and Talon 2s similar setups as well. I don't know if the clear windows are standard, orderable, or custom. Bob
-
Huh. I thought the purpose of the windows is so other jumpers could see the CYPRES display and/or reserve pin, not a gear check substitute for the wearer. I don't go around checking other people's gear unsolicited, but if I see a reserve pin and/or CYPRES problem because of a clear window, you can bet I'll tell the wearer. If I can't see them it's very unlikely I'll alert them. Bob

I'll be there from noon Fri 1/17 through mid-afternoon Sun 1/19. CRW dogs usually congregate at the north packing area next to the ramp. Hope to see some of you there. 'skies, Bob
