what's this mod about ? (just curious, the only mod I did on mine was legthening the lower break lines of 3"=> better stability on front riser inputs: it's just great now)
-
way better if you want to ear your audible

check this out for the official specs: http://www.usa.canon.com/eflenses/lineup/wideangle/index.html http://www.usa.canon.com/eflenses/lineup/standard/index.html 28mm f/1.8 is usefull only for the darker situation or if you want to play with the depth of focus (isolate the subject from the background: good for flowers closeup's but useless for skidiving ). the quality of a 28mm f/2.8 vs 28mm f/1.8 will be identical if not better at f/5.6 or f/8, which is what you will the most comonly use for skydiving. If you want to go for a zoom, consider a 24-85: the 24-28mm range is good for us. 24mm f/2.8 could be a good option to consider as well : great quality up there but you won't use it that much on the ground... hope this helps...

Have some of you flown and compared safire and safire 2 at 1.4:1 or so ? What do you think? Which one has the longer recovery arc ? I'm fine with the original safire's flare, once you dial it in it's a great canopy (I get some nice swoops out mine at 1,35:1) and I wonder if the safire 2 is more 'newbie' designed, ie: easier flare and shorter recovery arc. just curious... I am curious about the difference between
alain replied to Michele's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
That depends on the canopy & wingloading. Hook so one what type of canopy or wing loading range a carve approach would be more efficient ? just curious... -
maybe using a fake traning alti like this would help on time/altitude awareness, fur the students at least. http://www.dropzone.com/gear/Detailed/280.html alain

yep, did that: when I realised in freefall, I just turned it on, no worries alain

there are some people who jumps only with aad , but with two of them in case if one fails. not a good idea for a beginer any way, watching a wrist mounted alti puts you in some kinda unstable position, specialy when free flying and you have to learn flying that way too. plus, as a beginner you need the accuracy of the needle alti once your canopy is opened. That said, I have no idea of what's the regulation like regarding this issue in your country... alain

??? first time I ear something like that, do you mean dytter or pro-dytter ?
-
are you going to downsize or just planning to stay at that wing loading ? alain
-
you can't go wrong with a cheap timeout (test it before you buy it though) if you're going to get some new stuff, go for the prodytter, I mean, do you really need the jump record thing ? (on top of that, the protrack looks to be more battery hungry ?) if you get the timeout then latter buy a new prodytter, you will have spent less than for a new protrack: you loose the gadgets but you win a bullet prroof altitude awareness help... that's what i would go for personaly, for what it's worth alain

learn up there to fly the canopy at it's slowest speed, how deep in breaks it can fly might surprise you. Is it a Safire 1 or 2 ? the size issue applies only to the safire 1. I could not advise anything about the safire2: never flown it Alain

hum, what about re-sale value ? I know quite a few people who are jumping second hand canopies with way more than a 1000 jumps those are not value less Alain
-
I would not recommend anything else than 2330 because size AND voltage matter. 23 means 23mm diameter 30 means 3V alain

sorry to intrude, just though some might be interested in this one : http://free.fly.free.fr/vdo/Karlskraaura.wmv don't ask me where it is... alain

ooops, 'forgot something....

just curious: I've sen a lot of German and Austrian jumpers flying this canopy, but can't find what it is... Alain

cool post (again, thanks) little question: is chromatic blur more sensitive on long focal lenses (ie 200mm vs 20mm) ? Alain
-
>but when you are changing your battery every-other-jump... then you may need a new battery ? just a question, I'm not prentending to teach you anytrhing on that topic do NP-FM 50 last longer than NP-FM 30 ? I mean is it able to make more jumps in it's life time ? Alain

interesting pics Deuce ! the diamond .5 seam to have less barel distortion than your kenko. no black corners on the diamond .5 pics. Alain

>Damn, when's the Diamond 0.5 with the 30mm threads coming...?? Now: I have one on the way Alain

mark> Duracells work; Energizers don't good point !!! last time I used mine it was running on enrgizers: sometimes it would not turn on, some times switch off without warning then I bought a needle alti... i'm gona try the digitude with the right batteries and check it out! (the digitude is good for night jumps, when it works) AL1

sorry, I wont actually answer your question, but did you consider the Sigma 24mm 1:2.8 ? I own one for years and I'm really happy with it (the price is good too). I'm not sure one needs 1:1.8 for skydiving : we usually have enough light up there to use 4 to 8 setting , so... Plus, hi aperture wide angle lenses are usually pretty heavy and more prone to distortion than the 2.8. Alain ps: I'm not a freefall photographer just photographer for over a decade.
