  1. What about when the risers are so tight, twisted that the metal inserts kink and prevent a cable extraction? It is what I've heard from riggers.
  2. Your worried about a few lbs?...damn...to take a "dump" before a jump will not effect your W/L that much ------------------------------------------------------------ WORD!
  3. We learned, that the most suitable planes for the first S/L jumps are therefore C172 and C182. The things you know for a long already. The problem is very low space between the wheel, where the student stands with left leg (the right keeps hanging) and the wing. The student is in the position, (when he drops), from which he easily falls backwards and rolls. ---------------------------------------------------------- Why not allow the student to go all the way out till they are actually hanging from the strut with only there hands holding on, and their feet hanging. With there foot(left) on the step it not a good position for exit, if they are hanging then the relative wind has a tendency to push there legs back and place them in a more favorable position to let go and arch!
  4. 1st. warning 5,500 freefly breakoff 2nd. warning 3500 why haven't you pulled yet? 3rd. warning 1,500 stop fighting your main and dump your reserve in to the trash. ( high speed mal, you will be at 1,000 by the time you brain processes the 1500 ft warning tone! I think it is important to mention I hardly ever hear my second or most importantly third warning! As I have made over 400 jumps with the same settings I have become accustom to the tones, and what they represent to me in dealing with different situations.
  5. Sky HI Visuals has a video of all mals. It old, like back in the 70-80, but good tool for training. Also for a training harness simulator, I like the one at Ground Rush Skydiving Club in Tx. .......Most hangers have an I-beam with a cam on it, which you can hook a comealong, and move heavy parts around.......A rope, a bicycle rim, and an old harness, and you can send a student flailing around in circles. Make sure the reserve risers are connected to the rim good so the student doesn't fall to the cement when cutaway. Also you can push the student around and simulate turns and landing approaches with the aerial view of the airport below them on the floor.

    Cypress

Expert cypress alt. is 750 ft. Tandems, and students are set for a higher alt cuts.So unless your planning to dump higher than 2500 on every jump, you will probably have a 2 out situation.
  7. packed, in a gear bag, stored in a closet.......sometimes I leave it over night in my truck, in the garage
  8. I try to pitch by 4000 but sometimes I flip over to check my blind spot if I'm not sure of all the positions of others in my group, or weary of low timers I might jump with, who weren't near during break off, at this point I may be pitching near 3500-3000. I hate it when others depend on me having a ditter, to know when to say when!
  9. Thank you all for your input, however what if I changed this slightly with a scenario. What about a high speed mal, where the canopy is spinning faster that the jumper, twist up in the risers and all the jumper can achieve is a SLOW, steady pull on the cutaway with both hands, do you think this could lead to a possible worst case, when the right releases before the left. I don't know, what do you think? thank you... WB
  10. I need some feed back on this subject. When pulled to extension the right cable will release before the left. The left cable is slightly longer to accommodate an RSL setup(I have been told). My rig doesn't have an RSL an I want to know if there is any harm in cutting the cable so the length is equal to the right when pulled to extension. This is on a newer rig with all original pieces. I appreciate your inputs on this subject.
  11. Jump a larger canopy till you learn to flare properly
  12. Gentle Tiger, I jumped a PD 190 (f111) for about my first 80 jumps. It was easy to pack and land. I was loaded at 1.1/1. However I would always encounter difficulty in landing in winds above 14mph. I would simply come strait down, or get pushed backwards. This isn't nessarly a good thing for a jumper with a hurt knee. Also in high winds I would find I had no flare, I guess cause I had no forward speed to convert to lift. You can call PD and have demo canopies shipped to you for a small fee. Perhaps that will help you to decide. Maybe reconsider the Sabre2,I put about 400 jumps on one loaded at 1.6. They can be a fun canopy, and safe if you do not load them too heavy. but any jumper on a heavy loaded ZP can find themselves in troubly quickly. The manufacture has recomendations on wing loading, I may be wrong but I believe PD considers a Sabre2 170 as high performance canopy and the USPA considers a wing loading of 1.1/1 for experts
  13. you might want to decide on wing loading first, then decide if you want a zp, or a f111 canopy.
  14. Most Canopy Manufactures specify that any wing loading over 1.1/1 is advanced. In the US an advanced license or a D raiting will cost you 500 jumps. Don't be surprized if a DZO won't let you jump your highly loaded eliptical at there drop zone. It has happened to friends of mine when traveling.
  15. Bad..... I assume you mean by psyco that you wanna role up the canopy and put it in the bag instead of folding it?
  16. I did 2 tandem's, the second tandem was a ripcord pull. I then did 2 s/l the second was a prcp, and my first 5 sec. delay the same day. I then did 6 delays from higher altitudes until I completed all unstable moves. Then did a graduation jump, kept jumping until I had 20 and took the A test. All in all I think it took about 6 weeks to complete. I was lucky enough to be best friends with one of the instructors from high school, and drinking buddies with the other. I would go over to the dz on sat night drink beer and listen to these guys tell stories of the jumps and students from that day, So when I finally got the balls to jump, I already kinda had an idea of what I was supposed to do. Even before I jumped I was able to watch students being trained, I already knew arch, look, reach, pull!
