WTF??? are you serious, if you cannot pull a reserve handle then you can't jump. what if you had a total? That is some of the worst advice I have ever heard, Did i hear you wrong? "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

that couldn't have been due to vertical speed, he was hardly going very fast and it was too low to be the activation height, if he jumped it while there was an error reading on the screen then he was a fool! For those that oppose socialised healthcare in the USA
rhys replied to rhys's topic in Speakers Corner
I didn't read that, i know that because i have been through thas system a few times. if you wanted to pay for your emergency services, you would probably be able to, but you would get some funny looks when you suggested that you pay. I reaaly doubt that you would fork out for what it would cost for a rod in your fimur or similar if you had that done... it wouldn't be cheap. Anyway this conversation has been turned around, NZ has socialised healthcare and it works very well for most cases. Our military is limited to what we need (peacekeeping corps etc.) and we don't have bums on the street. I am wondering how those that oppose socialised healthcare, feel about the govornment spending frivilously your tax dollars into private companies such as lockheed martin etc. These companies already have Billions if not Trillions of your hard earned money while you pay through your teeth to have your broken arm fixed? You can still choose to have insurance and use private hospitals you know... That is your choice. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix -

You Ignore the word Free there, heavily subsidised means you may have to pay for some (subsidised) pain killers once you leave the hospital. You will not be charged for any treatment made in the hospital. I have first hand experience with this, do you? How do you suggest that is bad. Sorry you can't grasp that but it is true, You simly refused to believe. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix -

You are right it is paid by a type of Tax by NZ residents, If you for example come to New Zealand on a holiday and Hook yourself in skydiving/paragliding or any activity for that matter, and your bone pops out of your skin, you will be airlifted by helecopter to the closest hospital if you are not in a city already and operated on straight away you will saty in a comfortable hospital and cared for until you are ready to leave, you will pay?......... Nothing. You will be billed........ Nothing. You will be able to do this again in the future and the same rules will apply. So for you, it is free. So you don't have to get supersized travel insurance to cover skydiving or any other so called risky activity when coming to NZ. Although overseen by the govornment, all this is handled by a corporation. The Accident Compensation Corporation of New Zealand. I like this place, its people and many things about the place. I find it strange though that many folk here oppose the healthcare being funded by tax dollars but freely allow trillions to be fluttered away on pointless excercises. My travel insurance was increased by more than 33% simply because i was coming to the USA, it would have been cheaper had I gone to west africa!! It seems good healthcare is a luxury for the rich rather than aceesable to all. The reason I care...? I'm used to good free/affordable healthcare and wish you all to have it too. So it is, wouldn't you rather have the govornment invest in your health, rather than paying billions so a few astronauts riding exercycles in space can stay on a payroll? "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix -

Think about this next time you pay your health insurance; http://threetrilliondollarwar.org/category/war-the-economy/ or this http://www.space.com/news/080205-nasa-budget-2008.html or how about this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_budget_of_the_United_States What is not socialised about that? Do you find all this spending necessary when many are struggling to make ends meet? "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix -

Glad to see a 'plug in' electric car being offered in the not too distant future. Lets hope they don't 'Shred' these like they did with the EV1. http://www.chevrolet.com/electriccar/ "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

When do/will you change your 350/300lb HMA lineset?

What was the total jumps before you removed them? "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix -
Ypu know i had the same thing, i was a snowboarder for 7 years and decided I needed a career, i took my avalanche stage 1 course and my instructors course, it sapped the fun out of it and i lost my passion. i found that all the most fun things i enjoyed were putting me in danger, like launching off a huge cornice into the phat pillow below with all my mates in tow.... but that is another story. After I decided not to go down that road, i signed up for the commercial skydiving diploma in New Zealand, skydiving was to become my bread and butter, i only had a couple of grand for gear when i started and fortunately for me the NZ govornment subsidises the cpourse by 50% for NZ citizens and i could student loan the rest. the first year or two it seemed like a struggle getting camera gear and more modern equipment etc. but really is was a bunch of fun, once i got my tandem rating everything became easy, i started travelling, and i was earning very good money. These days i am doing more sport skydiving than ever before, i am competeing with my fiance at the world meet and our combined icome form skydibing is around $100,000 per year. grumpy tandem masters piss me off, we are constantly reminded by our customers on a daily basis that we have the best job in the world. And we do! "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

rhys replied to rhys's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I would be interested to know how long you guys are using these lines for? My current set has around 200 jumps, have blue UV protection coating, they still look good and I interned on using them for another 100 jumps. I'm just interested on what you guys have been doing and what you will be doing in light of the recent recommendations made by performance designs. I know my choice is my choice, and i will change my lines when I see fit, I just don't agree with such conservative recommendations, that is my choice. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix -
That's right they do too. you would think ted could afford a hot knife by now. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

Save it until you NEED something. you may want a couple of different wide lenses for your videos, you shouldn't need a wide lens for your DSLR to begin with. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

Then how does a 100 jump limit help resolve that problem. We have to be realistic here, these lines could break on the first jump if they are damaged a little during the reline or a really hard opening occurs. Many people have put hundreds of jumps on these lines. When 1 person has an incident due to jumping lines that are obviously (according to the above post) badly worn, we should all change our lines that have been really well looked after and are in good condition, after 100 jumps? That does not sound reasonable to me, 200-300 maybe, but 100 jumps is OTT. After scanning this thread a few times I can't see where the wingloading of the guy whos lines broke is mentioned. This information would be greatly appreciated if anyone knows. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix -

100 jumps seems a little over cautious to me, I would tend to go with Mels more realistic values. But that is just my opinion. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix -

Check the water...The National Review supports gays?!?
rhys replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in Speakers Corner
These were her words, I don't think, and she never implied that there are but fucking congo lines going on here. But rape is probably alot more comon in these military camps than we are led to believe, or is reported. I remember watching a documentary on the subject. It was manditory that women be accomponied to the bathroom, this rule was put in place due to the frequency of such occurences.
