Not Jaybo. Jay Boynton. Slots. My mistake
-
I am looking for a snake skin from an old strato star. When the canopy first came out with rings and ropes reefing system, there was a red line that had to be pulled down to retract the pilot chute. The red line ran through a tube of aircraft cotton and to the top of the canopy. It had a grommet in the end. The rings and ropes system was soon removed and replaced with a slider. We are putting together an "original" canopy for the museum. An original snake skin would be wonderful, however getting the measurements would allow building one which would be easy. The rings, ropes, red lines and snake skins ended up in a riggers pile. Even if someone has an original Strato Star in a closet with rings and ropes, I would treasure the measurements of the snake skin. Thank's Jim T D-3411

Maybe Jay B was on Slots are for Tots. Thought Jeff was on original 10 High. I remember you had a MG car parked by Daytona Flagship DC-3. Jim T

Hoop, I still have my originals and staff T-shirt. I thought Jay B was on the "Bunch". I see him now and then. Jim T Beechnuts

Bobbin tension finger is probably ok, but replace it anyway. Get that out of the picture. If problem is speed related, maybe drawing out the take up spring and give it another turn to increase the take up spring pressure. It may be floating. If it makes no difference, put it back where it was. One of these tips might just make a difference.

I would try pulling the bobbin thread out by hand, as well as the upper thread, with the foot down. Notice if there is a very even tension pull when doing this. If not, on the bobbin, check to see if it is in the case the right way. see if it is fouled on the bobbin. Remove tensioner on bobbin case and look for dirt under it. On the top thread, clean tension discs check thread routing, see if it is lifting off the spool with no restrictions. If there are any restrictions in either thread, it could cause a pattern like in your photos. Try a piece of lighter material. If it puckers both tensions may be too tight. Good Luck

When I got back into jumping, after 35years off, 2 years ago, I was disappointed to see that the rigs were still very similar to the first small piggybacks we designed and built in the mid 70's. I set out to put together an experimental rig that would probably have 98% of it discarded. If I come up with one item that becomes the norm, mission accomplished. I don't mean better colors and graphics. Sounds similar to what you are doing. Don't be contaminated by the ideas of others, but listen to them so you are not on a dead end, already traveled. The people responding to you seem to know what they are talking about. That can save you alot of time. Stay on it, it will take you longer than you think, and you will make progress in a direction that you are not even thinking about now. Good luck Jim T D-3411

I understand about requiring time, and the snapped neck. How about a fairing to get rid of all corners?

Have you thought about manually releasing the mount? Some kind of a quick release operated with your hand may be worth looking at instead of hoping cords will break when they should.

I should have original singer illustrated parts catalog and instruction manual for my 112w116. I will take a look in archives. Jim T

Large amount of twists on a skyhook deployment?
gb1 replied to iwasinkheson68's topic in Gear and Rigging
There are alot of gadgets out there to do your skydiving for you, or make it "safer". Try opening at a safe altitude, giving yourself enough time to stabilize and fire your reserve manually. If you want to deploy a reserve at a low altitude, wear a third, round reserve, and use it for low ones. -
Terry, try Toledo Industrial sewing machines. Jim T

Feed dog became worn after a million miles. I received the machine from Sandy Reid in 1975. It was his first.

Set presser foot light so material does not rise while needle is coming up. Sharpening feed dog may damage material. My 31-15 works perfect with worn feed dog from 1949. Proper adjustment for feed dog height is one half of the teeth rising above the plate at highest point. Jim T D-3411

Have one of your pals film you with a go-pro from the rear. Everyone seems to have one. This may reduce the guessing. Jim T D-3411
