    covid-19

This article: https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/pfizer-new-covid-19-protease-inhibitor-drug-is-not-just-repackaged-ivermectin/ is a pretty interesting (to me) treatment of the progress toward the use of protease inhibitors for SARS-CoV-2. This article: https://www.nature.com/articles/s42003-020-01577-x gets more into the nuts and bolts of the process. Protease inhibitors are very useful for chronic but difficult to transmit viruses. HIV and Hepatitis C are examples, where their transmission requires up close and personal exchange of bodily fluids (blood et al.). SARS-CoV-2, OTOH, is airborne, so one can receive an infectious inoculum just by being in the vicinity of someone shedding virus. Given the 'life cycle' of the virus and its demonstrated propensity for reinfection, successful treatment for demonstrated exposure is unlikely to prevent subsequent infection. My guess is that, when the Pfizer offering is approved, its utility will be for people testing positive and any known contacts, so that the disease does not progress to full-blown COVID-19, repeat as necessary. We'll see. BSBD, Winsor
  2. WTF? Are you trying to reinforce the concept that Woke is all about garbled thinking? If so, you nailed it.
  3. It's kinda creepy that you even think in those terms. I certainly don't.
  4. I apologize. Systemic racism is perfectly okay, so long as you call it "affirmative action." What was I thinking?
  5. You're projecting again.

I'm inoculated all to hell, but still retain healthy skepticism regarding the various mRNA concoctions now available. Having worked with % of the major players in the Pharmaceutical" industry, to include Pfizer and their subsidiary Pharmacia/Upjohn, I am less than 100% reassured when they report their 'vaccine' as being "safe and effective." This is obliquely related but typical: https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-announces-largest-health-care-fraud-settlement-its-history Like HIV, having a vaccine is a worthy goal, but the treatments that have shown to be effective arose before that quest was successful. We should take a hint. BSBD, Winsor
  8. People may bitch all they want about 'systemic racism' (which is by and large illegal), but the systemic and toxic influence of Woke ideology is manifest: https://greenwald.substack.com/p/the-cynical-and-dangerous-weaponization?token=eyJ1c2VyX2lkIjoyODUxMjc5OSwicG9zdF9pZCI6NDQ2MDg3OTgsIl8iOiI4cElicSIsImlhdCI6MTYzODAzNjE1OCwiZXhwIjoxNjM4MDM5NzU4LCJpc3MiOiJwdWItMTI4NjYyIiwic3ViIjoicG9zdC1yZWFjdGlvbiJ9.6ig5TT0bU6-3mH9m_mk_05FWL1tYFuOuJK2V4d4TsHY BSBD, Winsor
  9. Cuomo is and always was a schmuck. Trump is and always was the gold (plated) standard of sleaze. When it comes to being a douchebag, Cuomo gave it his best shot but is still in the Minor Leagues compared to the Mango Mussolini. BSBD, Winsor
  10. Indeed, if that dumb sonofabitch got a good 8 hours daily he might have approached coherency - in a narcissistic kind of way. Cancelling his Twitter account might have helped his cause, but perhaps having insight into his garbled thought process had the up side of getting him out of the Oval Office. Now if there was any way to drive a stake through his political heart we could get back to the normal level of mediocrity in the Beltway. BSBD, Winsor

The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not “Eureka!” (I found it!) but “That’s funny …”— Isaac Asimov
  16. I'm trying to follow you, but it takes some doing. Noting the stupidity of 'liberals' doesn't make one a 'conservative' any more than noting the stupidity of 'conservatives' makes one a 'liberal.' Both sides of the aisle suck out loud, the only difference being the issues on which they choose to be utter morons. I am trying to think of anyone who deems themselves Woke that doesn't see fit to berate those who don't fall in with their positions, the sort of righteous indignation which is characteristic of intolerant assholes. I am certain that I am seen as such by some, but I simply reserve the right to think for myself and politely request the people who seek to begrudge me of that option should - from a purely therapeutic standpoint, mind you - go fuck themselves. The mob that went into the Capitol isn't any better. Even if the irregularities in the election (which are typical) had been sufficient to tip the balance one way or another, swarming the Capitol is hardly the most effective way to garner public support. Tolerance is, by its very nature, the process of becoming inured to something toxic or detrimental. In any event, I don't get what is your point about demeaning speech and the power of status. WTF? 17. "A Boy Named Sue" - Johnny Cash 1969 I grew up in an artistic milieu, and it was no big deal what was one's sexuality or gender preference. Being a breeder in Provincetown or New Hope was no more of a problem than being straight in Keokuk. My objection to J. Edgar Hoover is not because he enjoyed the company of men, liked to dress up in pretty outfits and voiced disappointment that cunnilingus was not a Federal crime (for real), it's because he was an evil sonofabitch by any measure. My objection to the Woke ism is that it is at least as intolerant as anyone against whom they rail. "Oh, you think YOU'RE fucked up? Watch this!" Say or do anything to piss them off and they will burn down anything or trash anything in a fit of moral indignation. I've seen it up close and personal, and I'm not impressed. By the same token that I don't need to exhaustively review the works of Jerry Falwell to get the gist of his stance, the works of Ibrahim X. Kendi are similarly transparent and unworthy of serious perusal. That anyone would take either sort of nonsense seriously is disquieting, and I find True Believers to be dangerous in general. Every generation of students is sure they have discovered Eternal Truths that have been missed so far, and they will be stunned when the next generation does the very same thing. Unfortunately, True Believers are humorless assholes across the board. BSBD, Winsor
  18. Wrong, as usual. It's RACISM to TREAT one race or another differently. But you know that.
  19. These things are all well and good. The concept that Woke is anything other than Alpha White Male is grossly inaccurate. Some Engineering Schools do their damndest to get the student body closer to 50:50, and too many well qualified females aren't interested. Should standards be lowered to get unqualified women in? Woke says yes, I say no. There is a huge difference between having 'equal rights' and being 'the same' (news flash - men and women are, by and large, different). 'Equity' in the Woke sense is equal outcome regardless. This has been tried, and the results are uniformly bad. Doing the same thing and expecting different results is, well, "it's different this time!" I grew up with the original Mad Men. Things have changed massively on Madison Avenue since then, so fighting against those norms is tilting at windmills. Art Nielsen's contribution to market research includes figuring out where the sales lie in a completely dispassionate manner. The companies that utilize his paradigm tend to do well, and really couldn't care less about the specifics of ethnicity or gender except as it affects the bottom line. Progress has been made, but rarely by 'Progressives." BSBD, Winsor
  20. A good indicator is 'Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.' These things sound just peachy, but are not what they seem at first blush. Imagine the L.A. Lakers being legally required to hire on the basis of demographics of the population, with appropriate percentages of short, uncoordinated people of various ethnicities and 'genders.' I suppose I might go against my aversion to the sport enough to watch at least part of one game. 'Diversity, Equity and Inclusion' is anathema to my standards of Equal Rights, Equal Responsibilities, no more, no less. Woke is entirely the result of good intentions = of the type with which the Road to Hell is made. BSBD, Winsor

In Britain, at least, the focus on vaccination seems to be paying off: https://summit.news/2021/11/19/official-public-health-england-data-says-covid-infection-rates-higher-in-vaxxed-then-unvaxxed/

At the beginning of the pandemic I noted that the laser focus on a vaccine was brilliant, and that we could expect an effective vaccine as rapidly as the one for HIV, or the Corona Virus Common Cold at the very least. It is important that we focus on the Civilized part of the world, since it is our duty to look out for (offensive term removed) - who really don't bring much to the party. Outliers like Africa should be largely ignored: https://apnews.com/article/coronavirus-pandemic-science-health-pandemics-united-nations-fcf28a83c9352a67e50aa2172eb01a2f since whatever happens there is but an artifact in the grand scheme of things. Luckily, there are Civilized countries whose vaccination rates put us well into the 'herd immunity' range, so we're pretty much in the clear. I'm glad that's over. BSBD, Winsor
  24. Maybe 35 years ago I was with a group of jumpers at a pizza joint at the end of the day. Someone walked in, yelled "Hey Asshole!!" Over half the diners turned to him and yelled "What?!" My intro to the Muff Brothers.
  25. I know, I know, this isn't what the Woke crowd really mean, but the objections sound like the old joke about someone at a comedians convention who tried the abbreviated version and got crickets - "you didn't tell it right." Anyway, this: https://justthenews.com/accountability/watchdogs/female-prisoners-sue-california-censoring-complaints-about-anatomically?utm_source=justthenews.com&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=external-news-aggregators is one outcome of the 'not sure if he's a boy or a girl' movement.
