An entire department at Johnson and Johnson got wiped out by someone with terrific skills and qualifications - and a few issues. We had a department manager whose agenda mattered more than than professional responsibility, and it was a disaster. Only an idiot ignores red flags that guarantee overwhelming problems in the future.

My father, who spearheaded numerous invasions in the Pacific, would leave the room if Marion Morrison came on. Not that he claimed to be heroic - he greatly disliked having things go bang all around, and not everything missed - but even Dick Nixon was a Naval Officer in a theater of war. Loathe Tricky Dick though he might, the contempt my father had for John Wayne ("that fucking draft dodger") was unmatched.

I think the issue is more biological men who identify as lesbians. I've been enough places where unisex facilities are normal that I'm not too concerned. I've also lived in places where ladies with Adam's apples use urinals and I'm singularly in curious regarding the particulars. I understand the swimmers who took offense at a "woman" with full male genitalia using their locker room. At a nudist colony that's fine, but among young American females that doesn't tend to go over well. People who want equal treatment, fine. As a Jew, 'special treatment' makes me uneasy. BSBD, Winsor

The only person DB Cooper killed was himself. Exiting at night in lousy conditions, he was likely alive when he went into the Columbia River, but not for long. This "hero" is a murderer. He will be caught soon, since his brilliant plan wasn't. The fact that he got the gun to go bang is impressive, given that he hadn't practiced. I'd rather he had a Squeaky Fromme moment where he'd neglected to chamber a round. Any idiot can go out and kill people, and all too often idiots do. As far as striking a blow for the cause du jour goes, the law of unintended consequences tends to prevail. Anyone who considers this guy to be heroic should re-evaluate their values. BSBD, Winsor

Someone whose deep understanding of religion results in the conclusion that facts don't support the underlying mythology. My wife just got a tour of the Mormon Tabernacle complex and was most impressed by the accomplishments of the Church and the quality of life of its adherents. This does not change the fact that the the Book of Mormon has less veracity than your average comic book.

The fact that Truth Social translates to Pravda Sotsial'nyy makes my use of it unlikely. Also, when using the kill file feature, much of Speaker's Corner appears empty so extraordinary measures to keep it going are unwarranted.

I recall someone with a 2nd Infantry Division patch on the right shoulder, a Combat patch. When asked why a unit stationed in Korea qualified for such, he assured me that the DMZ was a properly 'warm' locale and recognized as such by the powers that be. Live and learn.

It looks like the poison that is DEI/Woke is becoming more widely recognized. If the verbiage in your typical DEI screed had black and white reversed, your basic KKK type would find it offensive. Promoting 'good' racism and sexism is still racism and sexism, and every bit as odious. The local Middle School had an event that began with an animated presentation. The coordinator asked the audience "does anyone like cats?" I said "they're great if you cook them right..." I'm guessing she didn't know a W. C. Fields line when she heard one.

I agree with your observations re. ifAsia. In the States the lines to the women's room are much more common than to the men's room. If both are crammed, I suppose I'd be annoyed if a woman got in from of me to avail herself of a shorter line it I was desperate to use the facilities. Other than that, who cares?

I've spent a fair amount of time across Asia, from West to East, and am pretty much oblivious to who's using the facilities. One issue that comes to mind is that there are often lines into the ladies' room while access to the gent's room is unimpeded. My son and I often have to wait for my wife at concerts, airports and so forth. Thus, if there is a limited time during a break and a female legislator has to wait longer in order to humor someone's delusion, I can see why they aren't up for it.

I am cool with humoring someone in a laughing academy who self-identifies as Napoleon. There is no phobia involved in putting a limit on the extent to which this delusion is tolerated. If this person has a problem with being a homosexual female impersonator, that's its problem. It may be a lot of things, but 'woman' is not on the short list. The fact that this person insists on everyone agreeing with its delusion is not okay. I don't have the authority to insist that everyone agrees with me, and either does it. I can see why real women aren't comfortable with men sharing their facilities, if there is a 'family' toilet available, that pretty much resolves the issue. If it is a competent legislator, great. If it wants much more from the deal, not so good.

Not hardly. She was quite clear why it was okay for her to do things that put mortals behind bars. She also had the presence of mind to wipe the hard drive of her illegal server..

I'm not sure how I could tell if I've ever eaten dog. I've never done so knowingly, but I've been places where it was no big deal. Same goes for horses.
