What you mean "we," paleface?

This is (and always has been) a very popular saying in society. Yet I almost never hear any citizen of a democratic republic argue that we should give up the practice of choosing governmental officials by means of citizens exercising their right to participate and vote in a popular election. Which begs the question: if the task of lawmaking and policy governance should not be performed by officials chosen by popular elections in a political process, then WHO, INSTEAD, SHOULD GOVERN - AND HOW SHOULD THOSE GOVERNING ATTAIN THEIR OFFICE? Legislators should be selected by lottery amongst the electorate. Anyone who has passed the bar should be barred from office outside the Judicial Branch (whoever practices the law shall not write one - conflict of interest). Legislators should be obligated to serve one and only one term, and to return to ordinary citizen status thereafter. No special medical or retirement benefits. I do not claim that this is a "solution," but that it could hardly be worse than what we now have. BSBD, Winsor

And you had to demonstrate the process of masturbating while looking in the mirror? Gross.

Coming from the tip of a douchenozzle. I can't keep up with your razor wit. How do you achieve such subtlety and nuance? this is quite the sophisticated banter from two guys relying on the phrase "douchenozzle" to make their point I got that one from a 1974 National Lampoon. It was attributed to Pat Nixon, and it had a nice ring to it.

A military cemetery is owned by the residents - they have Bought the Farm, and paid the price. The Government is merely the caretaker. An obelisk to Baal in a cemetery is fine, but a courthouse with an engraving extolling the merits of Sharia is not OK. I thought you guys got rid of all of those about 3000 years ago.... Nah, there's still a few of them around. Hey, if that is what motivated someone to risk life and limb, whatever form the memorial takes is fine. On a trip to a 1,000 year old church in Germany, my stepmother freaked at a war memorial plaque that had "SS" symbols by many of the names. My feeling is that, while that is not my favorite credo, so long as they're dead I'm cool with it. If you're a fan, you can view the symbol as a memorial. If you're not, you can look at it as reassurance that there is one fewer of the bastards on the green side of the sod. Issues among the living matter. Dead issues are, well...

Not if the Jew in question was Jesus...

It is not about atheism, it's about assholism. I don't give a rat's ass if someone wants to be buried with their sword in their hand to be sure to get to Valhalla. Where I draw the line is when people presume to tell me what "The Truth" (tm) is. Thus, the people who are telling each other what to do are the ones with whom I have a problem. I do not know if the particular douchenozzles in this case were atheists, commies or whatever. They are, first and foremost, douchenozzles. BSBD, Winsor

Okay, this was not me but it got my attention. At Rantoul the PAC750 was the only plane flying, doing hop and pops from about 2,100 feet due to low ceilings. Two people took a chunk off, one guy hummed it a bit, pitched and sniveled. I gave him less than a count of ten between slider down and landing. Judging by the look on his face, that was not quite what he intended; he damn near pulled a Wile E. Coyote. BSBD, Winsor

Actually he said there were 60 in total. Funny how all 3 of you who have called Obama a moron for getting that wrong have got that wrong. ______________________________________________ http://youtu.be/EpGH02DtIws http://youtu.be/ThEAO0lt4Dw Here, you can watch the clown perform for yourself. Exactly. 60 in total. Although I know it sounds better to claim he said there were 57 states. 57 instead of 50 vs 57 instead of 47 is more of a random number and less obviously a simple mistatement. First O bozo said that he visited all 57 states , then he said he had 1 more to go making the total 58 he then said something about Alaska / Hawaii to be honest i am not sure if he forget to add them or what he was saying ...at any rate this clown was not even close to the right answer. Oh, give him a break. There is no Math requirement for Harvard Law School, the Senate or the Presidency. To many people numbers have utility for their poetic, rather than analytic, value. If one adds the States of Fear, Confusion, Shock, Panic and so forth, coming up with the requisite 60 is no problem. BSBD, Winsor

Breast milk has caused fatalities of late. The woman spraying cops had enough ethanol in her milk to pose a risk to any infant that had the misfortune to be nursed by her. I have zero sympathy for people who pose a threat to children - infants in particular. This woman qualified to be a cover girl for "Negligent Mother Magazine."

That is your quote, implying that the 10 commandmends are a dumbed down version of 613 jewish rules. On one side we have 10 rules, 9 of which are pretty decent "rules" to live by, most would consider them pretty common courtesy. One of them is a belief statement. On the other side we have 613 rules, of which the far majority cannot possibly be observed. I am surprised that somebody who will tell anybody and everybody how good his logical reasoning skills are, would pick the latter as the smartest set of rules. As well you should. If I had done any such thing, it would be surprising. To whom are you referring regarding claims of logical reasoning skills? There is, of course, a difference between saying "my logical reasoning skills are good" and saying "your logical reasoning skills suck."
-
At least the 10 rules can be followed anywhere. 26 Mitzvos apply only in the land of Israel. And ever since those Romans destroyed the temple, you know the one that replaced the first one, many of the Mitzvos cannot be observed. I know every Torah lists them, but the majority of them cannot be observed. Your air of superiority is misplaced in this matter. Whether they can be observed or not has nothing to do with the point. There is no distinction made in Torah regarding "observability." Mitzvot are quantifiable. There are 613. Your air of inferiority is justified.

I would like a pair of Palin/Bachmann maracas. When either of them shakes their head, it rattles.

Ron wants to defend our borders not the borders between Pakistan and Afghanistan. I don't think for a minute that china is gong to invade, but it is something that we should all consider. We have been flexing our muscles for a long time, now it is their turn. But you are correct; this tangent has gotten way off topic. The primary reason I am voting for Ron is his open dialogue about the Federal Reserve. No other politician has the guts to even bring it up let alone challenge the legality of it. When congress is not allowed to see the gold in Fort Knox and we cannot see the books of The Fed then we have basically lost control of our very own economy. Auditing the Fed is the first step in getting out of this mess. One major problem is that we have put ourselves in a position where historically the only way out is to default. This usually takes form of devaluating the currency to less than nothing (e.g., 1 Trillion Old Marks = 1 New Mark). Being left holding the bag with a whole lot of worthless credits (it is all electronic, so "paper" is inaccurate), the Chinese are liable to be somewhat annoyed. If the Chinese Government is stuck with the option of either trying to explain to 1.3 Billion constituents why their nest egg evaporated or trying to sieze assets in accordance with what they just lost, the latter option is likely more attractive. Quite what will pan out and when I do not know, but I guarantee it will not be pretty, and nobody is going to walk away happy. Auditing the Federal Reserve is pointless. The Fed is neither Federal nor a Reserve, and exists solely as an end run around the Constitution. The Constitution is specific regarding the Government issuing money backed by specie (gold & silver), so the Government "borrows" money from private lenders (the Fed) backed by nothing. What's to audit? It's like the old Polish joke about the Party worker inquiring about the potato harvest. "Comerade Party Worker, the harvest will be twice as good as last year!" (2x0=0?!) "Comerade Farmer, could you be more specific?" "Certainly, Comerade Party Worker - if you piled all the potatoes on top of each other they would reach the knee of God!" "Ah, Comerade Farmer - but you know there is no God!" "Yes, Comerade Party Worker - so you know there are no potatoes!" In any event, getting the Fed to agree to play by the rules is not an optimal solution, since the instution was created to circumvent the rules in the first place. Then again, come to think of it, there is no solution. We have over 300 million people - a great number of whom have no capacity to produce anything ever - who are dependent upon the importation of a variety of goods to include 15 million barrels a day of oil (that we can not pay for) just to get through the day, we are already in debt to the tune of a quarter of a million dollars per household (and counting) and there is no plan on either side of the aisle to even stabilize the situation. We are royally screwed, any way you cut it. The fact that you have people sweating whether or not gays can marry (who cares?) or whether people can smoke pot or not (who cares?) or how cow farts contribute to Climate Change (tm) (who cares?) when we face terminal conditions is akin to rearranging the deck furniture on the Titanic. Yes, she's the biggest thing that has ever set sail. Yes, we've been reassured that she's unsinkable/too big to fail. No, there is not a lot you can do about it now that events have been set in motion - the end result is pretty much a given. At any rate, regardless of whether we continue to send thieving idiots to Washington or we mend our ways and send only sage and responsible representatives, the damage is done and it is not surviveable. Enjoy yourself - it's later than you think. BSBD, Winsor

Here we go with the sexist slander of conservative women. Can you name one conservative woman politician you don't think is a moron? Christie Whitman. Palin and Bachmann are idiots.

Only in the Land of Israel. Children of Israel recognize 613 (it's a family thing - you wouldn't understand). Every Torah lists them, wherever it may be. Even the Roman writings include them.

I have to disagree with the title of this thread - we're screwed, regardless of what we do. The only question is when and how bad. The fact that we are hanging paper at a truly heroic rate is but symptomatic. The problem is that the US of A is positioned to be a net consumer, any way you cut it. Come up with a scenario where we use no more petroleum than we produce and have a net balance of trade. I have not heard any politician or pundit who comes even close to such a scenario - to include Ron Paul. Economically we are in much, much worse shape than was Germany in 1922/23. When we have to pay on the spot for imports, petroleum included, with something other than greenbacks/IOUs, there will be nothing but a big sucking sound where the US economy once was. Ron Paul is right about a lot of things. The constitutionality of many of the agencies and programs we take for granted is not just questionable, it is nonexistant. We have become inured to governmental excesses just as a frog will sit in a pot being heated on a stove - we tolerate incremental encroachments until there is no going back. At any rate, Ron Paul says things that are true whether they are popular or not. He does not, however, have the capacity to single-handedly undo the damage we have inflicted upon ourselves in the past half century, but, then again, nobody does. To some extent I enjoy seeing people I dislike get elected to office if there is nothing they can do but get stuck holding the bag. OTOH, nitwits can do a lot of damage while things are going to hell, making the process just that much more unpleasant, so schadenfreude has its downside. The bottom line is that Ron Paul is the best choice out there by a long shot (not that there is much of anyone with a clue in the field), but the damage is too severe for survival. The best we can do is to fly as far through the crash as possible. BSBD, Winsor

Static line from an aircraft, 800 feet. At least that's what they told us, since we didn't have altimeters. Freefall, maybe 1,500 feet. We finally got altitude enough for a hop and pop, and decided to turn some points. Took a line (right hand to left leg grip of the guy ahead) off the step, after ballooning into the haze, at about 3,000 feet. Transitioned to a round on the hill, went to the donut, and tracked. That was in the days of really fast opening parachutes and no AADs. Without turbines, altitude was dear. Anyhow, one key to survival in the sport is what every horror movie aficianado knows - stay the hell out of the basement. BSBD, Winsor

In all fairness, the statement was about The New Testament. Some Christians believe the laws in the Old Testament were voided by the New Testament. Which is weird when you consider how vocal some get about the 10 (or is it 15) Commandments, but in any case, most Christians do feel it's ok to cook up BBQ pork ribs on a Sunday. There are 613 Mitzvot. Dumbing it down for pagans resulted in the Top Ten, but there is no such distinction in Torah.

Gee whillikers, you are the sensitive one! Suggesting you aren't the sharpest tool in the shed hits a nerve? Your admission that your tendency is/was to resort to violence when words fail you - and that words tend to fail you - is more damning than any of the criticism you perceive yourself to have been subject. Your own self-characterization is much more base than anything directed at you by anyone else. Poor little fella.

I could care less what you think of me or how smart I am (or not). Just curious about the double standard that seems to exist in here. Although, i sure wish I could be a member of the intellectual elite like you. You must be so proud of yourself. Whether or not I have anything about which to be proud, I am impressed that you do not appear to be aware enough to be embarrassed. I suppose ignorance is bliss. BSBD, Winsor

How could a "perfect" person make "imperfect" choices to sin or do evil? I thought he just explained that quite well. Thinking is not your long suit. How do you keep from getting banned in here with such blatant personal attacks? I am not accusing you of anything, just pointing out that the cognitive and correlative skills you exhibit in these forums are somewhat below average. There are people who are, in fact, brilliant, who affect a screen persona that is anything but. You may well be such a ringer, though I doubt it. Do not take offense at being identified as outside the intellectual elite - intelligence is overrated. People who got straight As work for people who got Cs. In any event, you could do well with an introductory course in logic. Whether you are right or wrong is not likely to change, but your capacity to substantiate your case may improve. BSBD, Winsor
