Sweet! About time they threw some of this shit out of court.

But that's the point. I have had DZs want me to fly for free because others would. They make it hard for people to get a fair wage when they undercut their fellow professionals like that. And what kind of message does it send? You are willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done and keep the job. So that attitude can translate into flying in bad conditions you shouldn't and possibly flying aircraft that aren't being maintained. I'm not talking about a little practice to get competent. We are talking about ops that are never paying their pilots just because they are getting hours. That ain't right. I've seen enough of this type to know it isn't a good situation. If no one on the DZ ever got paid for doing anything there then it would be like a club. And that's a whole nother situation. But most clubs don't have big turbine planes like we are talking here. You know, it really irks me when I hear people say that. Why should any pilot work for you then? They deserve to get paid for the job they do. They have bills to pay and a mouth (if not more than one) to feed. Their time is worth something and just getting flight hours isn't everything. I never flew for free and no self respecting commercial pilot should fly for free either. You want to play? Then you got to pay. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

And don't forget Apollo 13 when Tom Hanks.....eh hem....I mean Lovel and crew made it back after an explosion on board. That they didn't die is a testament to the meeting of the minds on the ground. Just like Hubbel's flawed mirror, a problem with one of the oxygen tanks was made long before the launch. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

Ever notice that we are getting people and equipment more often than we were 30 or 40 years ago? I think some forget that the Mercury program was not going so well in the beginning as the rockets kept blowing up. Were they the Restones or Atlases that kept blowing up? Well, if I'm not mistaken Mars has been around at least as long as the Earth (4 billion years). I bet it'll be here for awhile. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

I did. How'd you know? Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

Well we will just have to hope that the winds are blowing in the same direction that the crop rows are planted otherwise what good does it do to look for signs of wind direction? (eye roll smiley) That bit of advice might be suitable for low/varibale wind days but the last thing one should be worrying about when landing off in a farmers field is if they're landing with the rows. Ummm.....ever tried not going with the rows of corn? Those corn cobbs are like clubs and the fewer clubs you can hit the better. edit to add: OH, I see that you have. And a few more exotic things to boot! Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

He's refering to finding the position in the sky of the sun with relation to facing into the wind. Say the sun should be over your right shoulder when facing the wind. You are so far away from the airport you see no wind indicators so you can give it a SWAG (scientific wild ass guess) as to which way you can face to be into the wind. It's not exact but it can be used. I've seen this before and it can be used at places that don't have wind direction changes every 2 minutes like in the desert. Yep, me too. Man, getting a lot of them now.

Part I agee with....part I don't. You should be following the first person down. Not wait until the first person is down to decide your landing direction. Just look around. Is anyone lower than you? If yes then enter the pattern orderly (right or left hand pattern, should have been decided before takeoff too). Now, if you see 10 canopies and 5 are setting up for opposite directions patterns I'll opt out and go away from all of them. Or at least try to. We must accept that we are in a fluid dynamic. Flying is ever changing. We can set rules. We can set patterns. But we must always keep our head on a swivel and leave an out. You can always find a place to land away from the main crowd. Land safe not close. Always have a plan. But be ready to do the safe thing. If you know people are landing in one direction then I would follow it. Even if it is different from what you talked about. If everyone is going the same direction then you can't collide. So, have a plan. Try to fly the plan. But if you see a bad situation developing then use the alternate. If you can't use the alternate then do what you have to save your life and get ready to talk about it later. And when someone starts yelling at you "kill 'em with kindness". It usually deflates them and you can get at the route of the problem. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

EXACTLY!!!....It takes two to collide but only one to avoid. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

Aren't flaps on the minimum eqipment list for a King Air? You noticed that too huh? I wonder how much runway they were using for takeoff and landing. And isn't using flaps on jumprun like almost required to try and raise the tail just a bit more than it would be without flaps. Dang, that tail is close enough as it is. Why make it worse? I think I said that the line was in 2010. Hmmm...I'll have to go back and re-read.

Well, back in the day when I was a DJ, Rave was called "Acid House". And I DJ'd until 1995. Then I started flying jumpers and never really went back to clubbing. Had to be up too early. I collect some CDs of dance music if I think it's worth while. But I do miss a lot. Dang, another one bites the dust.

ALRIGHT......WHO LET MISTER POOOPY PANTS IN? ...and yah.....you're right.
