I scanned my card in for someone else a while back. You can download and print it if you wish. Not sure if that is offical or not, but it is better than nothing. http://www.veard.net/cypresscard.jpg

This is what I will be doing this weekend. A little pool party, and a little water training... Water is very hard to come by near our dropzone, but I am happy to get the training. Hope to jump in Florida sometime soon.

Otter to Austin Skydiving July 12th, 13th
flyer299 replied to flyer299's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Anyone in the Austin area who havn't tried jumping at Austin Skydiving may want to head out July 12th, and 13th. They will be bringing in a Twin Otter for the weekend. Lots of fun, great people. PM if you need specific info -
Nothing angers me more than someone who draws an instant connection between skydiving and death. You have to have a great respect for skydiving, but I by no means am suicidal!

So now can someone give us all the questions and answers so we know for sure what it was?

A while back I posted about how cool my wife was. She told me that there was no way in hell that she would ever jump out of a plane and in fact I was nutz for doing it. When my Sister did a Tandem, she changed her mind, and wanted to do it. She started AFF a few weeks ago and after three weekends at the Drop Zone she completed AFF in 7 jumps with 0 Repeats! I am so very proud of her. Her instructors were very impressed, and I had such a good time watching her. I even got to get a few glimpses of her later jumps when I was able to exit after her. Sure she was a little speck down and over there, but it was great to see. So Congrats SkyKitten78 for joining me in the great sport of skydiving. Now I just have to figure out how to buy her all the gear she wants

Although I am sure you guys are right... It should would be nice if that perdiction doesn't become reality....

I screwed up yesterday on my second jump. The plane took off and I realized I only had my Audible (visual was left on the ground). I didn't panic and did the dive. This was my first time with out the visual. So I decided to play a game... Guess when the beeps will go just by visual, and Pull high if they didn't come when I thought. To my surpise I called the beeps with in 2 seconds of 5,000 and 3,500. I wish I didn't have to test my eyes that way, but I felt good that my Eyes and internal clock are good. Having said that, I made sure my visual altimeter was with me for the rest of the day.

You know, I like Skydiving for its Freedom. I feel that I should have the ability to choose somthing stupid. And everyone should also have the ability (and I hope duty) to educate me as to why I shouldn't. Just because I can, doesn't mean I should. I am in strong Favor of more eductions, guide lines and recomendations. Perhaps even a threshold that requries a sign off after additional training. But I am opposed to any hard rules.

When I got off of AFF I got myself a Spectre 170 and I love it. To be honest, there are a lot of good choices for your first chute. It will come down to availability, price, and finding the colors you like. I've never met a person who has flown a Spectre, Sabre2, or Tri who didn't like it. Some people will talk about small differences between them, but over all you'll like them all. Like everyone says, talk to your instructors who know how you fly and they will help point you in the right direction. Be sure to have anything you buy used checked out by your rigger. 95% of the time it is perfect and ready to go, but you want to find out about those 5% before you buy and before you jump the first time.

If there is going to be any of that, I think I'll help her out... being that is is my Wife and all Personally I just told her to wear the bruises like a badge of Honor... After all she is a Skydiver now!

I just got a new one of these 2 weekends ago. Really kick ass! I like it alot. Here are the pics, and I love the upgraded paint job!

If you want to do it for fun, it is very easy. Just go to the local airport and check into a few flight schools. Learning to fly isn't all the different than learning to skydive. You show up, pay a lot of money and work with an Instructor. You spend some time flying with that instructor until he feels you are ready to solo (around 10-15 hours, but everyone is different). After you solo for a bit, then you get back in with the instructor and do some cross country work. If all goes well you get your license between 40 and 60 hours of flight time. Good Luck!

I did watch a show on Discovery Channel that actually proved that this was possible. They didn't try to proove that it actually did happen, but they did make it happen. It was kind of cool. It was a short lived show called Myth Busters. Think it had about 4 episodes. They did all kinds of neat things, including recreating the Chevy Nova with Jato rockets. They actually riged a car up to be controlled by remote, strapped rockets to the top of it and then chased it with a Helicopter (so the guy with the remote control could keep controlling it). The car out ran the helicopter, but it didn't get air born and smoke as the myth suggested.

Yes I would like to know enough information about this DZ so that I can avoid flying with this pilot. Flying is very serious and I want my pilots to act like it is. I am far more worried about an incedient in a plane than I am on the sky dive.

I have just started learning to sit fly, and I've tried it in Shorts and TShirt and with A RW suit. Really didn't notice much difference. I did spin a little with the RW suit, but I was able to correct and hold a heading.

Started in Oct 2002, have 36 jumps... More this weekend I hope!

Well everyone... she did it!!! I am so very proud of her. She went through the AFF training, soaked it all in and did her first jump. She did great. She climbed out onto the step of the 182, did a good exit, started off a little de-arched but responded to instructors signals, 3 practice touches and pull her own chute on time. It wasn't a stand up landing, but she was very happy. We are working on scheduling her 2nd jump as soon as possible.
-
Yeah, it will be, but I wanted her to skydive so bad that I just don't care. Figure a few less trips to eat out is worth it.
-
No that doesn't sound sexist at all, and it is pretty much what happened... Well 2 things, she has seen videos of other females jumping, but she didn't know them. Seeing the video of my sister, who she is kind of close to really did help. I havn't gotten a good video of any of my jumps yet, somthing I hope to change soon. Anyways, we are heading out to the dropzone. I'll let you know how it goes.
-
Well guys, it is scheduled... She is signed up for her 1st Jump course (AFF) tomorrow. Also be looking for her around DZ.com by the name of SkyKitten78

I started Skydiving about 6 months ago, and feel in love with it right away. My Wife on the other hand thought I was crazy. Of course I wanted her to try skydiving because I knew she would love it to. Well, lets just say there was no way in hell that she was ever going to be caught jumping out of an airplane. I did my best to try and tell her that everything she was afraid of wasn't really apart of sky diving. I pretty much came to terms with the fact that some people are sky divers and others just arn't. But, never give up. Last weekend I was able to take my sister for a Tandem jump, and she got video. Well after seeing the video and talking to my sister for a bit, my Wife decided (on her own, I might add), that she wants to sky dive. We kicked around a Tandem jump for her, but she said, forget it, AFF or nothing. In about 2 days she went from the most Anti Skydiving person I had ever met to someone who is already surfing the net looking at used gear. We should be able to get her into a first jump course in the next few weeks. I can't wait!

Anyone know where I can find a picture of a line twist. The type a student would expect to see on student gear, nothing like a high speed malfuction line twist? Thanks
-
There is nothing wrong with re-doing a few steps. You might even learn a new way of doing something. Look into AFF, sounds like you have the money. Keep an open mind during the steps you already have done, and you might learn more than you expect.

It is supposed to have 300 jumps on it, but you never know if a bad bunch of batteries were put in there... Try changing the Batteries, if that doesn't work, I hear L&B is great with customer service. I bet they will take care of you.
