I hate to say it KB, but the shot is much better than the disease. I had the vaccination when I was a kid and still have the telltale scar on my arm. Hang in there. I lived in Manhattan for over 5 years. 7th Ave and 16th St. You can expect to pay at least $1000/month for a 500 sq ft studio apt almost anywhere in Manhattan, maybe less in the Lower East Side. I don't know about bartending jobs. I worked for a bank while I was there. It's a great adventure living there as long as you are not completely broke from paying rent. I say go for it.
