If people been looking for supporting evidence for several millenia and found absolutley none, it's a fairly safe bet that the theory was wrong to begin with. Epsecially when a rival (and fundamentally incompatible) theory has been around for a small fraction of the time and yet has supporting evidence in spades. Creationism only survives as a religious dogma because they haven't turned the life support machine off yet. But as a scientific theory, it is long since been declared brain-dead.

In scientific terms, evolution is the only game in town; there is no other side to the story.

To the Folks Across the Pond: Europe, the EU, Lisbon Treaty
JackC replied to Gawain's topic in Speakers Corner
Yeah, this particular Brit knows and isn't very fucking happy about it either. The trouble is those gutless bastards in Downing street promised us a referendum on whether to adopt the EU constitution and have now backed out on that promise claiming that the Lisbon Treaty isn't a constitution. Luckily Ireland did put it to the vote and kicked it out. Now that should be the end of the matter but Eurocrats being what they are have decided that they didn't like Ireland voting No so they want them to vote again. Presumably their idea is to keep having referendums until they get the answer they want. Personally I think the EU should go and fuck itself. Common market, yes. EU superstate, no. -

This might help you. Erm... did you actually read your post cos it's gibberish even for native english speakers. -
If the policy was in your contract when you first started with the company, then you have already agreed to do it and you would be in breach of that contract if you now refuse. If they're trying to change your contract and you don't like the new policy, don't sign until you negotiate an acceptable one. That's what contracts are for and they are there to protect both parties.
-
So you have no problem with discrimination, as long as it's "those" people? Nice.... It's the religious right-wingers that are doing the discriminating by trying to impose their views on everyone else. So you have no problem with discrimination, as long as it's "those" people? Nice.... As far as the employment rights issue goes, it's really quite simple. If your morals conflict with your job, either get another job or renegotiate your contract. But if you are contracted to do something as part of your work and you refuse, then you should expect to be fired for breach of that contract. Now when the government steps in and tells employers they can't fire people who refuse to do what they are contracted to do, then that is positive discrimination in favour of the moral axe-grinder and it is wrong.
-
If your current employer doesn't fit with your moral code, then feel free to find one that does. But if you decide simply not to do the parts of the job that you object to (for whatever reason), then don't be surprised if your employer chooses to fire you and employ someone who will do them. That seems totally fair to me.

Onward Christian Soldiers (with special new laws)

Those guys make me laugh. They are regularly pushing their wares in my home town on a saturday and had some kind of weird Krishna festival on recently. I mean that song isn't exactly hard to remember but they had a dirty great big banner with the words on it, all three of them. I reckon it's care in the community and that's their way of integrating back into society. Bless. -
Well, that settles it then. Nobody can argue with that. Really. I think he does it with this. Factor 6 maybe.

WTF? The point is not that atheists think that free will is an illusion (where did you get that idea from anyway?) but that an omniscient god precludes free will.

Scientists aren't usually in the bollocks business so there's another simple explaination, it's actually true.

What tyres are you using? Depending on brand, I get about 2-3k for a rear and about 5-6k for a front during normal road riding.
-
Don't worry mate, I can't spot a joke on here either.

When I started there was no direct access so the progression was 50cc -> 125cc -> unlimited, it was the only way to do it. But direct access isn't a great idea in my opinion. I know one guy who bought a Fireblade after passing his test and T-boned a car killing himself a month later. There is a lot to be said for learning by crashing a few 125s. But maybe I'm just a grumpy old man.

It's probably those things called corners which US riders might not be too familiar with. I think there might be a culture difference at work here though. It is a fact that more sports bikes are sold in the UK than in any other country and hero blobs, knee sliders and chicken strips rarely stay intact for long. A lot of Brits tend to ride pretty aggressively and as a result they crash a lot so it's best to get it out of your system on a slower bike. As Jamie Witham said, "if you don't crash, you don't know where the limit is".
-
Agreed. I did the usual UK progression, starting on 50cc, graduating to 125cc, then 250cc, 600cc, before buying the first in a long line of a 1000cc crotch rockets. Of course, I rode all of them absolutely flat out as is the British way but luckily, I'd got falling off out of my system by the time I got off a 250. I think that system works. My last bike for example, a Suzuki TL1000, blew it's gearbox to smithereens dumping all the oil out through a hole in the engine casing that 2nd gear had made during it's escape. The oil covered the back wheel which locked up while I was doing 90ish round a left hander. Years previously spent learning to control dirtbikes sliding around under me undoubtedly contributed to me not ending up as another statistic.

To misquote Joe Pesci in Casino: "but what did they know? They were 2000 miles away years ago and I don't know any body who can see that fucking far"

Dump them both and bounce back.

Christianity - it now makes so much more sense

Yes I have but so what? The Bible is a pretty good advert for atheism too. Seriously, does it not bother you that just about everything you post here is incoherent gibberish? -

I swear your posts get less and less comprehensible as you go on. If spouting that lot (whatever it means) is a result of believing in Jesus then I'm going to avoid it like the plague. I would not want that level of weirdness in my life.
