Dead Steve's cliff was near Riyahd. It is about a 7 mile hike from the nearest road or civilization. He saw it while flying C131 planes over the desert there. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

I said gun repair not gummy bears. Joy, you are embarrassing yourself. Just let it go with some dignity. You'll have another chance in due time. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

Al Qaeda would live the regret the wrath of a large group of angry base jumpers. As controversial as this sounds, imagine the eye for eye philosophy of flying an aircraft into some **** ****, like M****. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

I just got back from Beijing for work. I wish I had known that there were local jumpers there. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

What's up with this? They appeared to be sponsored by the Chinese government. They were wearing matching gear. As a reminder of the wealth level in China, most people do not make more than $500 per month. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

If bandwidth is the issue for "died outside of the sport," then consider making it a clicky so the person viewing can decide whether they are interested in looking at that section. that way, it's not part of the standard download but it's still there to view upon the user's decision. I spoke with an old time jumper and he said there was something distinct in the jumping from many years ago. They would emphasise getting stable much more than now before pulling due to potentially catastrophic malfunctions that could occur with such inferior gear compared to todays standards. i don't think any modern instructor would have even realized this. yes, the local hospital is terrible. they misdiagnosed my broken tailbone a decade ago and tried to release even though my blood pressure kept dropping to 50/20. they didn't even give me any painkillers. the hospital dropped the fees after realizing that their physician was so imcompent. definetly go elsewhere if you are hurt. Having been there and gotten Mike Pelkey to sign my copy of his El Cap #1 award... Having to drive back the film crew who were at the bottom and who filmed everything and driving them back to the hotel... Knowing that Brian's family was there... Knowing that Mike was at the top when it happened... Consoling the jumper who trained Brian... Drinking a beer with the woman ate breakfast with him and spent time with him before it happened, and who saw the accident from the top... Seeing Jean Boenish go into a stunned mode... This is one of the most tragic jump accidents I have experienced in a long time, if not ever. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

Don actually was not a jumper but he helped the jumpers quite a bit. His place was always party central. I was introduced to him originally by a BASE jumping cop. I made a jump with that cop 12 years ago one dark night and I landed in a tree. It turned out I landed in a pit of alligators. I was charged by a large alligator and I narrowly averted a potentially fatal attack. Don went out the next morning and shot the limbs of the tree that held my canopy. He did this without getting a single pellet in any part of my canopy. A story about Don. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2050426#2050426 My post follows Walt's. There is a photo there of Don and me drinking a beer. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

exactly. you canopy flight and flare will be better if it does not have a pilot chute on it. be reminded though that the control stroke (i.e., pulling the toggles) will have to be much deeper than otherwise. Enormous pilot chutes can actually distort a canopy causing a pronounced kink in the canopy as viewed from either above or below. It's a significant air anchor. It's more pronounced on 9 cell canopes. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

Some of these statements in this thread make no sense at all. The PC can have a major role in the flight of the canopy, of course. This was one of the motivators for using sleeve technology to collapse the pilot chute. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

Try it some time before you judge this playground. If you get bored with it, try opening as low as possible. My lowest opening from 900 feet was 90 feet over land. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174
