well i think i am going for the island, i mean i am just being stupid thinking about the choice...the one in new zealand will still be there but the one on the island, living a whole year in sunshine with new people that are world class freeflyers, get to learn alot and get to change my transparent skin into something a bit more darker. I am just a bit nervous i guess, i ring up tommorrow and more than likely fly out the next day. Quite exciting really, will be leaving my partner here in the uk doing her job just to make sure we have a good salary coming in....she can come over when i am settled. i would rather not say the island as i feel it would be wrong to discuss the DZ on a skydiving website before i give an answer. It sure does have a solid future though, it has some big backers. The people there sound great as well but the money situation is up in the air, but you know i am a jumper and am in it for the love of the sport. i have been working towards a full time marketing position for a dropzone in new zealand for years, i showed them what i can do over the last three years. I applied for the same sort of position at a dz on a beautiful small island and have got the job. I phoned the company in new zealand to ask for a reference and they asked me to come home and start the job i have been working towards. both places say the sooner the better, and the island one says they will pay for my ticket and give me the inpression they would like me to start in a day. I fell like i have just hit a brick wall of good luck....i guess it is a stupid question but would you guys go for the uncertainty of pay for a all year round summer or would you go for a stable position and income in your home country that has its fair share of bad weather? you sound like you really need to go and sit in a class for AFF level one, the instructors will teach you everything you need to know for the stage you are at. I got caught on a door of a plane, thank god the door handle broke and my lines got twisted around me....you know what mate, not for one second though was i scared, i had no time to be scared, i had a job to do, and that was save my life. At that moment everything from my first AFF class come flooding back to me, all the emergency procedures i was taught come straight to my head and i got to work. Once you learn what you need to know, skydiving is easy...just pay attention, you sound like you would pay great attention and would make a safe skydiver. Keep up the questions, maybe go to your dz and ask if you can go up in the plane as an observer and not jump, just watch everyone, watch they way they do their checks and sit at the dropzone for the day and see how people operate. .Karnage Krew Gear Store .

not to put you down or anything but if you are scared do not do it. it is not for everyone. That said though, i have never been scared, i will never jump scared and the day i am scared i will leave the sport.....though i am nervous before every jump. That is why i am alive, when you are nervous you make sure you do everything right, when you are scared, you panic. The only time i am not nervous on a dz is when i am in freefall, it is the most relaxed feeling in the world for me. Skydiving is a safe sport, but only as safe as jumping out of a plane can be. You might do thousands of jumps and die of old age, you might die on your first jump. You may just put yourself in a wheel chair for the rest of your life. The thing is, if you can not accept the risk of bouncing or ending up not being able to walk or anything else you can imagine to happen you should not do it. Are you ready to accept the fact that by no fault of your own that your reserve might malfunction at 2000ft and you hit the ground 70mph? I dont mean to sound harsh but everyone is giving you statistics, i want you know that many Skydivers have lost many friends over this time in this sport. you come accross as the sort of person who puts alot of thought into the risk. Then if you were to injure yourself in a bad way, you would just say that you wish you never did it and be very sour about it. Skydiving needs to be in your soul..It is a risky sport, a life or death risky sport, are you prepared to risk your life everytime you jump? Good luck on your desicion, if you join the sport once accepting the risks, you will become a new person, You will meet people that are extremley fantastic and you will be part of a huge family. Thanks, i went to portugal for xmas and my hotel got broken into on xmas night, took my canon rebel and my pc105 that i had with me as well as 800 euros cash from the safe that they"somehow" opened. really pissed off, very mad, woke up in the morning about to go back to england for a quick finish holiday, when i turned the news on to this devistation. A couple of days later here i am thinking, i was meant to be in thailand on boxing day but we changed our xmas plans(nemerous times). So what, changing our plans saved our lives but we could still go and help right? Went over and found some friends from previous visits and helped them clean up....i wish i was still there as i feel thailand is my special place, it is a place where you realise that the way of life we all live is not the important part of life. The important part of life support for one another and food. Now this is all that matters in thailand but if i had stayed any longer than i did i would have lost the plot. That place is a disaster, it is one thing seeing it on the news but having a 360 degree view of absoulte disaster is another, i could keep my head so come back to England. I want to be there so badly but i just can not deal with the disaster as part of my real life....it might be selfish but i am not strong enough to deal with what has happened. Everyone is always fighting in this world and everyone thinks this is a disaster. Well wars are disasters and kill just as many people, nothing ever comes of it, wars just keep going. This is not a disaster, sure it is a disaster on many levels, but it has bought the world togethor, it is bringing peace in many areas of asia, and is showing that the USA does care. Everyone is working togethor and not fighting for once. Every country is in aggreement with what needs to be done. The world is showing the humanity i never thought we could. Good on the people who continue to head to thailand for a holiday..now would be the best time to ever go there for a holiday. The Thai people are very nice people and i holiday there around 2 times a year for a month each time. The Thai people want you all there now more than ever. Most people in thailand live off selling us things that they make and sell. All the many great bars and food wagons are needing our money more than ever. For anyone to sit there and call the people travelling there are wrong, well you can not be very well educated on a third world country. I have just come back from 5 days as i went to help a thai family i know clean up their bar, i have never seen and never thought this world would come togethor until i went back there and saw all the love that the world is sharing in thailand. Good on the people for the donations but if you are donating money do not sit there and say the tourist is wrong. Maybe it is time for everyone to learn something about this country and realise they strive on tourisim instead of just donating money and thinking you have the right to rag on the tourists that are now over there helping. think of the internet as a learning tool, including learning major multi national criminal fraud plans. Before the internet i dont think it was quite so easy to get ripped off in this world. I sold something through paypal and i use paypal alot. I sent the package but had no tracking number. The wrote back and said that everything had arrived but then wrote to paypal and said it never arrived. Paypal forced me to pay these people back the money they sent me by automatically taking it from my account. If i did not pay them back, then paypal would suspend my account until i paid them back. So these people got there money back and the goods that i sent them.
