  1. You have my attention! Explain please. Here's a pic demonstrating how ugly things can look as the bag is lifted. I don't think the stretching of the bands is at all typical, wish I knew more about the circumstances of this, it is from a thread back in '07. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  2. There is plenty to complain about concerning the USPA, so it is nice to be reminded how they are able to be so valuable in some very important ways. 3. I don't think anyone has claimed that. Absolutely correct. However, I think it is quite valuable to examine their relative reliability. Some people seem to have decided that they are all reliable enough and not care about individual incidents as they arise. 4. The value of developing the ability (art) of observing the weather conditions, displaying a thoughtful gaze for several seconds, and then confidently pronouncing where the spot should be cannot be underestimated! 6. As for the guess (Pops), are you suggesting that the wind against my back will change my pitch? Im kinda stretching here.. Think! When going in the same direction as the wind. Will you feel the wind against your back or front? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 7. I hadn't considered that anyone would install a handle like that. Fools can be ingenious and all that... Another thing I noticed is that the student's rig has a grommet visible on a reserve flap, as if the reserve container is overstuffed and/or too long of a loop has been used. I would not think any container would be considered OK when the grommet is exposed - the closing loop is exposed. Perhaps I'm not seeing it correctly, what do y'all think? 8. Rears into a headwind aren't going to get you anywhere. Try it and see. Wrong again. Spiraling down will get you out of the wind flow. You won't make more forward penetration, but you won't get blown back as far aince you are not exposed to the wind for as long. (skybytch was actually replying to DaVinciflies). 9. I don't know if you'll descend faster than a spiral. A single front riser turn/dive might beat both of them. Choosing to just descend fast is a very different strategy than fronts and holding, so I think it is somewhat misleading to say it "beats" them. It depends on the circumstances to decide which strategy is better. Different wind speeds at different altitudes, or if worse weather is approaching... That may not be true, which is the point in saying that sometimes it can be better to be blown back by the full wind speed for a short time than blown back by some fraction of the full wind speed for a longer time. I am not saying that spiraling to lose altitude is often a good choice, not at all. 10. Wrong. Brakes are best when you're upwind. Downwind, getting small and using rears is all the hope you've got of getting back. I was concentrating on Shah saying that he used rears when downwind, not on whether brakes is better than rears when upwind. When downwind, rears is not good. You should stop giving shit advice. Wrong again. 359 degrees of every spiral you are not facing the wind. If you are worried about getting pushed back, face directly into the wind. Fuck dude - stop giving shit advice. Wrong. Sometimes it is a better decision to get rid of altitude with less time in the air, especially depending on where good landing areas are. You should stop giving shit advice. 11. Dershowitz describes in detail how the prosecutor was so angry because she misled the court, leaving out the injuries to GZ that she did know about. 12. The prosecutor Angela Corey is: http://www.newsmax.com/Newswidget/Zimmerman-Trayvon-Angela-Corey/2012/06/05/id/441305?promo_code=EB8D-1%20&utm_source=NationalReview&utm_medium=nmwidget&utm_campaign=widgetphase1 It is a newsmax article (no pretense of being unbiased, but is written by Alan Dershowitz himself - not a conservative). 13. Sometimes spiraling down so that you spend less time in the air (time to get pushed away by strong winds) is a good choice, but you must be sure not to collide with others and that you still have time/altitude to get to a good landing area. 14. Why would you think pulling down on rear risers would help? That is a technique to use when you are a long way upwind of the spot, not downwind. 15. Buying a used altimeter makes a lot of sense. Galaxy altis are commonly available for $100, and sold again later for that price (especially with the easily replaceable $8 lens) if someone decides later a digital is the way they want to go. Even used digital altis can be bought and easily resold at the right price. 16. My memory is that all the S/L rigs were roll packed. The canopies/lines did get "arched" a lot during deployment, maybe a roll pack is good to delay the opening a bit - a pro pack might not be the best for direct bag. 17. Direct bag deployment on a ram air is not a good idea. Sparky It was used by all students for years at a DZ I frequented. I can't remember any mals. 21. I think you have plenty of knowledge about the proper body position, and you're likely doing it well enough. I think you're probably just making unnecessary corrections. Why not try closing your eyes for several seconds as soon as you step out. It might help you to ignore the desire to make corrections when you don't need to. It would probably be fun. 22. Perhaps removing the data panel would make the canopy no longer usable for a reserve, so that anyone could do anything you want to it. 24. I think the answer is more simple than some. Stop flopping. That is what an experienced jumper does, they trust the right body position to work, and it does. You are the one in control of whether you flop or not. The reason you flop is likely because you perceive not being stable and trying to correct. Just stop trying to correct and ride it out for a while. It is fun. You've already probably heard how to exit, just do it and ride it out, without letting yourself flop. If you do actually go on your back/unstable/whatever, there will be plenty of time to fix it later, just don't flop for several seconds. Ride the hill, it is fun. Have more confidence than is justified, that also helps. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 25. Sure, you put a marble on the two different kind of tracks, and it will surely get to the end along the steeper track (track 2). They will arrive with the same kinetic energy (speed) when they do get there, but the steeper track will get the marble there first. That result happens when there is almost no significant friction. The skydiving version of that is very different because there is so much friction, the friction increases greatly with the square of speed, and the acceleration along the steeper track is so much less than it would be without friction. If someone can do a real trial to show how a steep dive does work better, that would be interesting to see, but I don't think it would happen. One of the best professors I had would ask us on a test what were the assumptions for a particular theory/equation. It is very good to remember that there are assumptions that come along with all that learning of theory.
