  1. The reserve pin of the Vector is a significant departure from the standard. I think RWS would do well to advertise the benefit of their reserve pin. If would push the other mfgs to step it up. 2. This is a subject that gets me a little worked up. I think the std reserve pin design, and the strength standard is terribly inadequate. I make that conclusion because I think it should not be possible to bend a pin while packing it, or when leaning against the airplane on the way to altitude, or when getting shoved into the door frame during the door jam-up or when diving out late. To pass this type of abuse I think it might mean that the pin should be about 3 to 5 times stronger/stiffer than is currently the case. I think it is very likely that the top grommet/bearing surface which the pin rides against might also be worthy of beefing up, or completely redesigning. I am not a rigger, but I am a mech engineer, done mechanical component design for Boeing and Honda for 18 years. 3. I think that what makes the Wings and Icon logo 'icky' has to do with the location. That view (rear view) of a rig had traditionally been left free of logos (except for the narrow area of the yoke), and I think that is important because customers do not want the logo getting in the way of the appearance when viewed straight from the back. I think a lot of people that own such rigs would prefer the logo not be included. Logos on the side panels are not nearly so obtrusive, in my opinion. 4. I think it had nothing to do with body position. I think that if your slider is only part way down, and at the position where the line twists start, means that the slider hung up on something, and when just one grommet gets stopped, you can imagine how that might cause the canopy to twist up. Do you check the brake lines for twists? That can cause the slider to hang up. Also, were you sure that one brake didn't perhaps get unstowed prematurely? 7. Was that homerun an over the fence homer, or an in the park type? So few fields have fences that can be reached by players that age. I've posted these last season, but what the heck, can't miss an opportunity to show off my kids... Somedays it surely is good to be a dad, like when they hit a bases loaded/bases clearing double. You can honestly say that you 'taught him everything he knows'. The first is my 9 year old replica sending a shot over the right fielder's head. The ball is just coming off the bat, good timing with the camera, eh? It was a 1/350 of a second exposure. His first year of 'kid pitch' baseball. My 12 year old replica is a real power hitter also. My 9 year old also had a game winning, 2 out, walk off 2 RBI double in his first round of playoffs this year. You might say his self esteem was not lacking after that. The last two pics are of my 12 year old, he was leaning weird in this swing, but it sure did fly away... 8. Winning so often, hollywood celebrities sitting on the first row, Erwin Johnson protesting innocence every time he fouled, Pat Riley and his oil-slicked hair... Please remember, that being a sports fan allows you to hate without the normal problems associated with that emotion. People that 'hate' each other's teams will even watch games together, it is OK to hate the opponents, it is the way it should be for sports fans.

  10. Sorry to spoil the mood you wanted on this thread, but I don't have any sympathy for California fans, you've had plenty to celebrate over the years compared to Phoenix fans.
  11. California teams can kiss my ass! I was so happy to see the Lakers go down to the Suns. I grew up in Phoenix, followed the Suns back in the '70s. The VanArsdale brothers, Connie Hawkins, Len (truck) Robinson, Alvan Adams, Paul Westphal, Walter Davis...I knew their coach John MacLeod because my dad and I serviced his pool - a real nice guy. In 1976, they barely had a winning season, 42-40, but somehow beat the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors in the playoffs, played the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals, giving the Celtics a tough battle before falling in 6 games. Game 5 was a triple-overtime classic that is considered by many to be the greatest game in NBA history. I remember it very well. Lately I have come to despise the way that fouls are called, but I am enjoying the Suns doing so well in the playoffs. 12. I would expect cordura to be more difficult to grasp, with less friction. As far as I know, polycotton is standard. I haven't yet noticed anyone with cordura grippers. I guess they would be more durable, but it seems like a solution for a problem that doesn't exist. 15. I would have despised and feared either President Clinton or President Kerry in these circumstances as much as I despise the current president. So I have just one question for you: would you have defended those two presidents just as vigorously as you defend this one? I think Kerry or Clinton or Gore would have also been OK with this program. Yes, I think I would defend Kerry or Clinton or Gore or whoever had won. The program is reasonable, and the SCOTUS found it to be constitutional. It shouldn't be so hard to believe that conservatives can be consistent on an issue, and that sometimes we agree. I give Clinton credit for being willing to approve welfare reform and he spent a lot of political capital on pushing for NAFTA. Both of these were not popular in his party. I can understand you wishing it was illegal, but it is not. If Congress is so upset about it, they should devote their energy to changing the law, instead of verbally attacking the executive that wants to most effectively thwart terrorism. All 3 branches of government have been involved with the use of this tool. Congress allowed it, the courts upheld it, and the president used it. Congress can change it, but the general focus is on Bush as the bad guy. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 16. Mine were really good together. The dog was pretty old, then got a kitten. The dog was so excited when she first met the cat, it was really cute, she crept up on the ground to approach the kitten without scaring it, and was so happy it wasn't running away. It wasn't long before they were play-fighting all the time. The cat would get really wet from being in the mouth of the dog so much. After a while the cat would play hard-to-get, the dog would make it obvious it wanted to play, but the cat would turn its head and ignore the invitation until the dog would roll over on its back, then and only then would the cat attack. It also liked to jump on the dogs back from above as the dog would walk by. 18. Jump Shack started this, if you need to vent about how it is getting you worked up, I think you should look inward instead of expressing your irritation at the consumers that are trying to understand Jump Shack's stated position. If the design change is for cosmetic purposes, or to improve durability, or to make it easier to pack, etc, then it is easy to consider it a minor change. When the design change is to prevent a catastrophic failure inherent in the old design, I think it is not reasonable to consider it a minor change. When I first started to read about Jump Shack's speedbag, I thought if they really had an advantage, they should make a special point of it in their marketing. They have done exactly that for other unique aspects of their rig design, why not the speedbag? Now I read that Jump Shack claims that the std freebag is dangerous, and that all mfgs have used other freebags in effect similar to the speedbag in order to pass their testing. This is a very serious accusation that has not been supported at all by Jump Shack, and specifically denied by some mfgs. I think that is an insult. Even though the racer is not on my list of preferred containers, I had considered Jump Shack to be a mfg that would not compromise certain aspects of their design for appearance considerations. This was an honorable position for them to take. What they have now done is much less than honorable, in my opinion. I think this might make for an interesting discussion at the next PIA convention. 19. The reason for the change to the speedbag is to prevent "almost guaranteed line dump" per Nancy. Given the significance of the claimed problem, the change to remedy that problem cannot be non-significant. Still seems like Jump Shack is the only mfg that admits to using 'special bags', essentially admitting they didn't perform testing as required. To also accuse the other mfgs of doing the same is quite an insult to make with nothing to back it up. 21. The owners manual of some vehicles will say that premium is required, but that 'requirement' is so that the engine produces the power claimed by the mfg. If regular gas is used, the car will automatically retard the timing (newer cars have sensors to detect sound) to prevent preignition, with slightly reduced power being the only problem. Unfortunately, a lot of people care that the car they choose to buy makes a few more ponies than the competition, so the 'required' use of premium is a way of getting more power out of the same engine because it allows more spark timing advance/higher compression with same advance. This is more likely for expensive/luxury cars, where the mfg judges that owners won't care about more expensive fuel. If the mfg says the car makes XXX horsepower, and premium is needed to achieve it, then your manual will say premium is required, but might have wording to 'allow' you to use regular in an emergency if premium is not available. That is as close as they will come to admitting it is not really needed. What I've said does not apply for older cars, without knock/preignition sensors. Some will say (including oil/gas companies) that their premium fuel is an advantage because of extra additives in that fuel. This is a separate issue/argument, but not the reason why a mfg would require premium fuel. I was a design engineer for Honda/Acura for 10 years. I didn't work in the engine group, but have discussed this with the guys there. I think the same is likely for other manufacturers, perhaps others will confirm. 22. The difference, I think, is that it didn't take Bush to convince me that the threat is very real indeed. 23. So far it seems like Jump Shack is the only mfg that admits to using 'special bags'. I was around when Larry Chernis did his testing for the early Infinity, there were no special bags. Doesn't seem very wise to admit in a public forum that the TSO tesing was invalid. Isn't that exactly what is being admitted, essentially inviting an investigation from the FAA?
