Interesting reads...........ABOUT POLICE SHOOTINGS......
skycop replied to skycop's topic in Speakers Corner
Read the synopsis of each shooting in the WP link, it provides a glimpse into the hard realities of modern American policing. I can attest to the accuracy, one of the WP synopsis involves a long time friend. But please, cherry-pick the controversial ones, they are easy to find, because there are so few. It puts the media hype a bit into perspective, but the keyboard warriors here don't need perspective............. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" -

He is charged with murder, so the answer would be no. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

It's VERY dangerous, we only run code on life threatening emergencies. People react a myriad of different ways when they see the flashing lights, driving recklessly and getting to a call briskly are two different things. If I get into an accident driving recklessly I'm going to be held criminally and civilly liable. The same goes for running code, if I don't use "due caution". I used to tell my guys, you don't do anyone any good if you don't get there. It's a perfect example of what I stated above, being lectured by people who THINK they know what they are talking about. There are also tactical approach issues. The statement we can do "whatever the fuck we want" is utter jibberish. , "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

Ok and.....? This has to with my post how? I don't like speed cameras either, they are for one purpose, to generate revenue, which is not revenue neutral enforcement. Running lights and siren is dangerous, if it's a non life threatening emergency I still try to get there as fast as I can. There is no doubt there is a culture problem in the Chicago PD, along with every other layer of city, county and state government there. How deep it runs is where we will differ, but I could only imagine how difficult it is to police in Chicago. Like I said before, all this anti-police rhetoric only causes the cops to back off. This occurs in the most vulnerable areas where violent crime spikes. Policing can be an ugly dirty business, even when done right. The 24-hour news cycle only pours gas on the fire, meanwhile we keep on doing what we do by the millions, that's why I've pretty much stopped posting here. It's the usual opining, by the usual crowd. I'm just going to keep on doing what I do, to the best of my abilities, things fall where they fall. The best quote I've heard in a long time to cops was this: "For every one person wanting you to fail to fit their agenda, there are ten that need you to succeed". Pretty much sums it up. Happy New Year, try to be part of the solution, not part of the problem. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

We have county wide jurisdiction, and state wide for felonies. Also, if another agency requests assistance, we have jurisdiction in that county for all things at that time. It does work well, we also got rid of city courts and went to a district court system. There is no financial incentive to write tickets. Revenue neutral enforcement should be the wave of the future, sadly in many places it never will be. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

Thank goodness that wasn't the case where I grew up, in small towns you have to make your own fun...........play ball............ "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

If you had an organized ring of people doing this exclusively, or a house full of stuff then yes, that is viable option. BUT a couple street criminals, looking in packages prolly to get things to sell to by a rock or heroin, the feds won't touch that. The Postal Inspectors are good guys, but they also have to prioritize. I did get to do some pretty high speed stuff with them years ago. Some people are stupid enough to mail/ship large amounts of dope. We did one where they had the box wired from the inside, it alerted when it was opened and that was the signal to hit the door. Good times............. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

By definition yes, easily enforced no. It's all about allocating resources and time, from what he described the response suited both. Unless of course you carry a postal inspector with you........... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

As goes 99.9% of police contacts, I've had thousands of them................. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

It seems even if there is video and it doesn't go the way the mob wants, it doesn't matter. Coypright 2015 the St. Louis Post-Dispatch "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

Yes because confronting the cops high on PCP with a knife is a great idea. Now it's evidently a pay day so...... On a lighter note, someone actually said this to me recently during a domestic. "yea he was mad because I had to leave with my friend to the clinic because she had an abortion yesterday, and they left some baby up in there". Yep the cops are the problem.................. http://www.whas11.com/story/news/local/2015/11/19/behind-badge-officers-under-attack/76081864/ "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

Apples meet oranges.......... We live in an armed society, a heavily armed one. Millions of police contacts, many of them armed and under very difficult circumstances, ones you won't read about or just see a small blurb on the local news. I said this before, and I'll say it again. To a person, every European cop I've ever met thinks we are crazy, they can't wrap their head around dealing with an armed society on a regular basis. They also shake their heads at the amount of rights our suspects get. Fight the police in some of the places I've been, and you get what you get. If more problems were solved like this, we'd all be better off. Unfortunately in our litigious society and with the polarization of both sides and the advent of internet armchair experts, this is the exception rather than the norm. Hopefully it becomes the norm. Sometimes policing ain't pretty, but if all sides take a deep breath, problems can be solved amicably while still disagreeing. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

This is what happens when you give into people with a list of "demands". Progressive, liberal, libertarian, whatever, this is just silly. Talk about a slippery slope................................ "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

Police shoot six year old five times in the head and chest
skycop replied to jclalor's topic in Speakers Corner
Ummm........ There are serious felony charges against the two officers. If you are going to rant, rant factually. Sounds like a similar situation to the one in Cincinnati. If it is there really isn't a logical explanation for going 0-100 so fast. In some cases poor judgment or a bad decision can lead to criminal charges in this line of work. However something tells me there is more to this whole situation, and it's not going to be in the officers favor. In the case in Cincinnati the officers instincts were right, but his decision making was criminally negligent IMHO. The state there is going to have a hard time getting a murder conviction. http://kxan.com/2015/11/03/military-equipment-rescued-over-600-people-in-san-marcos-during-flooding/ 600+ people, some more shameless self-promotion. Let me explain it to you, this armored vehicle sits higher and has more mass (a physics term). Because of this floodwaters have less of a chance of washing it away. Plus it stops bullets, how cool is that? But it is scary looking........................... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" -

I love it! The classic answer from the usual players..... Highlight good things, extraordinary things the cops are doing. With equipment they obtained and made operational, at an extremely low cost. When it's positive, innovative, resourceful and informative, it's attention whoring for just doing their jobs. When it's potentially negative it's this horrible trend with no actual proof. You just chose to ignore to positive when it's pointed out, you even ignored the physics of the actual use of an armored vehicle. Should I be concerned about driving across a bridge one of your students designed? "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" -
Yes, because name calling brings much to the conversation. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

Again, Politics are a full contact sport, the things you mention are mud-slinging plain and simple. Inaccurate reporting is a staple of the 24 hour news cycle. CBS's trusted anchor simply lied and fabricated documents, and timed his fabrication in an attempt to influence an election. No one wants to answer the political affiliation issue brought up, because the answer is painfully obvious. Opinion and political analysis are much different than hard news. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
-
No, I mean an actual fabrication, not mud slinging. But even then, Robert Redford is trying to salvage the guys career. This argument is a loser Bill and I think you know it. I'd love to see an actual poll of how many "journalists" are regidtered democrats vs, republicans. But it will never happen, they will continue to feign objectivity. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

Really? The major news networks, CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, MSNBC et al, never vetted the current POTUS to standards previously held by the 5th estate. One major network even fabricated things in an attempt to influence an election. Don't confuse talk radio, Alex Jones, or some of the others for news outlets. For a smart guy like you, ignoring the bias that exists in a large portion of the major news networks is simply not looking at facts. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
