Remember: DO NOT do business with anyone who offers to send you payment for a higher amount than your selling price with the understanding that you'll send back the balance. Be suspicious of anyone claiming to be acting on behalf of a "client" or another "customer". Be suspicious of anyone claiming to be from Nigeria or West Africa If you agree to accept a check payment, then do not send anything, gear or "change" before the check cleared. And be careful, if you manage to clear a fraudulent check then you may be liable for the damages if the bank finds out later. Make sure your bank authenticates the check. 22. Justin, I think you're using the wrong term... you ARE required to be logged in to post an ad. I think you meant to say if you were required to POST to the forums at least once before you could post an ad... That would not be sufficient to really prevent scams. I think there's a discussion to be had (and we're having it) about how you define a "member in good standing" and how to assign permissions to different areas of the site. Safe swoops Sangiro
  23. That's a fair comment... Looks like the word "merge" is creating a bit of confusion with some folks. We plan to merge the operations of both sites and to a large extend the technologies. We do not plan to merge the actual sites. Those who are concerned about that need not be. It will remain 2 sites and if you choose you can continue to hang out here and never have any interaction with the folks over there. There were some questions above as to how you will benefit from the merger seeing as skydiving and rockclimbing is so "different". I for one think the actual sports have more in common than some may think, but to find the actual benefits you have to look more at the tools needed to run a good adventure site site rather than how the sports compare side by side. Some examples: If someone on RC.com develops a logging application to log their climbs, it would be a very small step to tweak that and give you an application to log your jumps online. You benefit. If someone on RC.com writes and algorithm that allows them to compare gear by listing and comparing manufaturing data, it would again be pretty easy to bring that home in the skydiving world and you'll benefit. At RC.com you can categorize your photos when you upload them and in doing so allocate them to a specific route or climb. If we had that over here we would have been able to show you all photos related to Skydive Arizona when you viewed that listing in the DZ database and still leave the actual images in your own personal galleries. ....there are many more examples like these. Another question was asked about banners: "Will we start seeing North Face banners?" In the spirit of openness, the short answer is: You may. This was always the case though so there's nothing new there. Most of you have been here long enough to know my attitude towards commercializing this site. A very small percentage of each page are allocated to advertising. We will continue to push to fill as much of our ad space with companies from the skydiving industry, but in the end we need to be able to make a living or look at alternative models to keep this site going. I can assure you you'll like almost all of those even less. Give this a bit of time to mature. Don't worry about radical changes to your world, especially not over here. Have some fun with our new friends! I am very confident that we'll be able to bring a lot of cool new stuff to both communities a lot faster and a lot more efficiently than we have in the past.

  25. Lany, It's the second time (not counting the times at RC.com) that you've made this comment so let me respond to it quickly. If you're trying to create the impression that "drama" exists only here and not on RC.com then you are either not spending as much time over there as you are trying to have us believe or you are just whining. Remember, a lot of us have been on that site for many years longer than the 2 you claimed and we know very well what it's like. Drama exists, regrettably, on any community site. Rockclimbing.com has more than its fair share I can assure you. Pity. You can either contribute or you can stand on the sidelines, wave your arms and whine about how your world just got "drama-fide". Your decisions. I'd be much more interested in hearing what you actually like about RC.com that you think we should keep the same and what you think we can improve either here or there. A note to others: Be careful about listening to every "authority" about what's going on here and there. The world is filled with cynics. Drop in on the site. There are some really cool people over there and they're having as much fun as we are.
