Totes. Just use it if you need it. It's kind of cool to prove that you can get a parachute open that quickly, though. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click

I've seen vids of SLs that were definitely lower than cliff and bridge dives I've done. Maybe 50'. The canopy basically inflates and the jumper is in the water a fraction of a second later. I'd rather dive it, as you're hitting almost as hard, but usually in a flat position on your face or back, depending on which way the canopy threw you/which part of the pendulum you are in. 4. I guess it's been said. Get the GTi for sure. It's a much "softer" suit. You can play in it all day, do a ton of aerobatics without batting an eye, and still keep up on flocking dives, which are usually mid 50s to mid 60s, anyway. The Skyflyer demands your total concentration and strength. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click

  6. I saw video of it at DeLand, and actually, it was pretty damn impressive. A lot of speed disappeared at a bit over 300 feet, and it just kept going and going. The way the lift was maintained at such slow speeds looked really cool. Like swooping a Sabre or Stilleto. ;) "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  7. I probably sound like a stupid high school girl, but I'm wondering how many jumps people have on their suits out there, on which suits, and how long they've been jumping them. This isn't a penis measuring contest. It just seems that wingsuit flying is really starting to take hold, and people are racking up the jump numbers. Maybe even six months ago, it was rare to find someone with over 100. I'm up to 142, all GTi, over a span of ten months (winters suck here). I actually have 139 WS jumps logged, but three were without my ProTrack, as I lost it for a day. When I got around to my annual jump logging before I went to DeLand (OK, at the airport in Orlando), I'd forgotten where those three jumps belonged, so they are left out. If it's not on the ProTrack, it didn't happen. ;) "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  8. I wonder if any movement would occur with a wingsuit and 60 MPH+ winds. In Hood River, Oregon, in the Columbia River Gorge, extremely fats winds are common (which is why it's the birthplace of windsurfing and kiteboarding). "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click

You can get a lot of this type of info, minus the bs, at http://neworder.box.sk, and across the whole box.sk network. Just beware the pop-ups. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  10. True. It's amazing how much turbulence you can feel with these suits. And I hope I didn't offend you. You did a great job of keeping them in frame, and you are definitely one of the most active at getting suits on video and then sharing your recordings right now (out of planes, anyway). 11. The space suit looks sick as f*¢k. Very nice. That rodeo, aside from the rotation on exit, came off pretty nicely. Good stuff. Not sure who was backflying, but if you really stick those arms out flat whilst on your back, it stops the rocking. Not an insult or accusation, just a tip. I had the same problem for awhile and discovered that my tail was really big and my arms were really small when on my back. Very cool video. I need to get out there and flock with you guys some time. 12. Have fun with it guys...count me out. Hey, just theorizing. We've come up with the pros of this concept / device. Now I'd like to hear the cons. That is, reasons why this wouldn't work, as opposed to just, "My feet are coated... coated in chocolate." What? "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click

  14. I stuck around for several more hours doing tests (crappy weather at the DZ), and experimented with different angles. I'm at work, and will give some more details later, but the hardest pull for any configuration was 36 lbs, and after about 50 pulls, wear began to show. After 100 pulls, my 19 average went down to 16. I like this design you've come up with for keeping the PCA with you. You've mentioned the drawbacks, but more specifically, based on yesterday's tests, the object to which the PCA is anchored needs to be somewhat thick. I found that if the angle of the "Y" is too pinched, the force was higher (pinched almost all the way in is when we were getting 36 lbs). If the "Y" is at least, just guessing here, 35 degrees or so, you're looking at about 23 lbs of pull force. Basically, the wider the "Y", the less force you need to part the velcro. Which is why when the velcro is flat (basically, the "Y" is as wide as possible, you get the minimum pull force of 19 lbs). Maybe if there was some sort of strap, constructed like a chest strap, on the side opposite the velcro, you could tighten or loosen the device to get the appropriate angle of the "Y", regardless of the diameter of object. Covered area made a difference, as well. 1" by less than 3" took drastically less force than 3" or over. 3" and up was pretty much the same across the board, give or take a pound. I like the idea of velcro because it is predictable, cheap, and easier to attain than breakcord. I think that, for the most part, it would work well as a PCA for tied down PCs. I don't know if I'd trust it for extracting the PC, though. Yeah, very cool idea. Just examining the pic a little more. Making it permanent would be just fine. You're probably using the same PC for all SLs, so having a permanently modded bridle probably wouldn't be a big deal. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  15. If you want something done right -- you have to do it yourself. Working on it. My DeLand trip left me flat broke, but my next paycheck means financial recovery, and I'm aiming to get my helmet together. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  16. I had about six inches of velcro. I tacked the male down to the floor on end for five tests, and both ends for the other five. I put the hook on fish scale in the center and put the female end over it, and pulled. The fish scale has a plastic "ring" around it that slides easily and is pushed by the indicator on the scale so that it stays in place after the pull has happened... a pretty normal piece of equipment at a DZ. This is the hook and loop type, not the "frizzy" kind. I'd like to try it on the frizzy type, as well. I'll be putting velcro on my bridle, as I'll have the BASE PC pouch on my S3, and I'll pull test that, as well. That will be a better simulation, but I'd imagine the results will be similar, if not identical. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  17. Pull tested brand new velcro ten times. Ten for ten, it was 19 lbs (8.5 kilo). "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  18. This means you will have to start jumping wingsuits. You have the PERFECT gear choice for it, and you look kind of skinny in your pic. Did you get dynamic corners and a long bridle? Get a couple hundred jumps in and see your nearest BMI. Flying a wingsuit is pretty much the best thing you can do not only in this sport, but life in general. It's far better than any dream of flight I've ever had. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click

    really cool

I don't recall Russ (Walling, the "Wallfish") ever claiming to be a grammar guru. However, he has a well-earned reputation for drinking like the proverbial "Fish" and still getting up the next day to climb hard. Plus he makes pimp gear! Peace, D-d0g Yeah, I know... just being a bitch, "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click

  24. So do I. If you start looking right after you pitch, before you're upright, you stand a chance to bend slightly in the direction you're looking. This may be a reason why AFF instructors tell students to wait two seconds before looking. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  25. To less what sounds like a blow to Conor. One theory is that if you watch your opening too much, you are not in a good body position. I was getting weird openings, even on my Sabre, whilst flying a wingsuit, where body position is very critical. As soon as I started to just relax and stay symmetrical and straight, my opening were clean and on heading. Chances are, if you are looking at your parachute during deployment, your head is cocked one way or the other. On a more senstive wing, this may have an effect. A theory, not an accusation. My apologies for coming across as offensive. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
