  1. Joellercoaster.........I'm a total tunnel noob. With out getting to long winded, my plan is to use it (the tunnel) to regain some old form, and improve with new techniques and strategies for flying my body in the modern era. I spent some time away from the sport.....business, family, business. I'm really excited, and it's almost like the feeling of your first dozen jumps or so. I would say that 90% of my skydives were at drop zones in the SE and western USA while living and working in the area year around. I'm consolidating my current life style with the plan of moving to warm weather DZ's in the winter. As I do a little "recon" for my future winter home, I might as well get acquainted with the different tunnels. So that is why I asked about tunnel gear and was rewarded with a lot of great info from everyone. I guess I managed to get long winded again, darn.
  2. Thanks Trafficdiver....... will do.
  3. Kallend......thanks for your explanation. As an outsider looking in...seems like a lot of questionable mandates?
  4. Yeah Amazon....I respect your decision. Those cage drivers can make life/death hard on us. Too much other crap being attempted...texting, eating, talking, GPS screening, and looking but not really seeing.
  5. A major factor to college cost is the bloated administrative hiring. A piece by John Hechinger (11-21-12) in Bloomberg BusinessWeek stated that the number of Purdue administrators has jumped 54% in the past decade--almost 8 times the rate of tenured faculty. At universities nationwide employment of administrators jumped 60% from 1993 to 2009. Also I feel kids are being pushed in school from day one to attend college. Otherwise you (the kids) are considered "losers". College isn't for everyone. This could address drop out rates at the lower social economic level. The old "you can lead a horse to water......" Vocational training is largely ignored. I think schools do a very poor job of pointing many of their students towards success.
  6. Sometimes it does, but he helped it along. As a long time rider I'm always looking for plan a, b, or c in any anticipated situation looking 6 to 8 vehicles ahead. He had one bad plan. He also passed a couple of cars with not a lot of room for error. These days a lot of drivers are ziging instead of zaging......distracted driving. Last year a "soccer mom" driving and steering her car with her legs while looking at photo's with one hand, and trying to control 2 small children with her other hand, that should have been in car seats in the rear of vehicle, ran me off the road and could have killed me. Although lane splitting is legal in some states (Cali), I don't do it. Car/truck vs bike.....bike loses most every time.
  7. Pablo.....Great write up! I was able to gleam a lot of info from your post. No, the nearest tunnel is a long way from me as well. What you have been able to accomplish sounds impressive to me (tunnel noob and zero free fly), but I was an ok flyer in my day RW er belly flyer (still getting the present day lingo down). I'm going to spend more than 4 hours in the tunnel, no doubt about it. Matt and several others mentioned the G3, so if it fits thats the way I'm going. Under Armor I have drawers of, so no problem. I'm stoked, I'm thinking the tunnel will help me get my belly flying form back, and allow me to explore a new discipline in free fly, before I hit the sky's again. Now back to "Priceline" or whomever, for cheap rates to warm weather tunnels.
  8. Yes, especially those black, high-capacity, assault ones. Condolences to family and friends of the dead.
  9. I agree, not enough cellos. Although a long time ago......Jeff Lynn and ELO set the bar very high!
  10. mjosparky.....thanks for your feedback. I'm sure the tunnel will let me know if my past RW still works? I suspect some will come back, and some will be replaced by current and better techniques. Like your ride HD!
  11. Thanks ianyapxw. I appreciate your input. At this point I'm leaning towards initial coaching (being a tunnel noob), then assessing results. Overlay that with where I want to go and make the call. My guess and its only a guess, will be a mixed bag.......some coaching and some solo, but we'll see?
  12. I apologize for not checking my posting, after a few days......dumb on me. adamUK thanks for the link. I'm going to have some good bedtime reading er viewing. Looks like good info I can use. "Welcome to the crackhouse", ha ,ha. Probably no "re-hab" treatment for that!
  13. Some tasty looking morsels there.....Yum.
  14. What would you do? I don't prejudge anyone's capabilities by how they look (your pic), but you asked. Several years ago my best friend (silver star, two bronze stars with a V, and two purple hearts) called me and asked me to back him up and join him on a road trip. His complete rig had been stolen two years prior and just returned to him by the second buyer who found out it was "hot" gear. We settled up with the culprit and his two associates. It worked out for us however, that approach is not for everyone. Having a lawyer and a bail bondsman lined up in advance is a good idea if that approach is taken. Good luck with whatever decision you make.
  15. Hey craddock.......those sticks sound good, and the hotter the better. I have an old Luscombe, taildragger, stick controls, which is outfitted with skis this time of the year. I carry snowshoes, survival pack, and back-country skis and poles aboard (skis are pretty useless now with all the snow). It's easy to see the kill sites with blood everywhere against the white snow on the ice. I'm flying low and slow (VFR) and I have seen the wolf kills in various stages. Usually the pack will hamstring the moose and after that, it's over pretty quick. A lot of the time on a fresh kills, the pack will stay in place for a couple of days gorging themselves even while exposed out on the open ice. I guess they don't want to share with other wolf packs, bears, and yotes. They have to share with bald eagles and ravens who swoop in and grab chunks. This year the moose are exceptionally vulnerable in the woods with snow depths in the four to six foot range and I've seen where they have been taken down in small clearings at choke points. I'm not anti-wolf however, I believe they are populating at a far greater rate then moose, elk, and maybe deer. This is just based on my personal observation. Also the dramatic decrease in the moose population is also being blamed in some circles on "winter ticks". So I am a little "edgy" when it comes to losing a moose (but you and I don't have to revisit that conversation). Be well, nice talking with you!
  16. craddock...... I had to go back and review vid. Yes it was more controlled than I first thought. Yeah, we all screw up and hopefully it doesn't end in death. Moose burger over an outdoor fire tonight?
  17. Yes craddock.......you make some good points. I assumed the worst about the sleder based on his poor decision making, and one handed "spray and pray" shooting. You are right about the yotes and wolves feasting if they didn't get the meat. I've seen a lot of kill sites from the air this year on moose. They are under a great deal of stress. Ride safe.
  18. First off the asshole should have stayed at original position on the trail where he first stopped. The moose would probably not have charged him, which was inevitable as he closed the distance between them threatening the animals space. Moose are on a very "short fuse" this time of year with all the snow and cold, as well as their number one enemy taking them down in record numbers...wolves. I have had this happen to me two times by large bull moose while on my motorcycle. One even made a false charge. Both times the moose finally got bored and moved off road into the woods (took twenty minutes of waiting on one). But they are huge majestic creatures although they can be cantankerous. It would have been hard if not impossible to turn the sled around because of the deep snow which would have buried it. What really pissed me off (raised farm/ranch kid), is you do NOT allow an animal to suffer!! For him to fire half dozen rounds and drive by while it's still kicking made me want to put half dozen rounds in him. When all is done you have several hundred pounds of good meat. To drive off from a suffering animal and let it go to waste or let the meat get tainted by not gutting it out is another indicator of how F-ed up this person is!
  19. These out of control thugs deserve the "big house" mixed in with the inmate population. I wouldn't take bets on them surviving their sentence.

    Pet Euthanasia

So sorry Ed. I lost my 14 year old Golden a year ago this past Christmas. I still think about her daily. She had a great life and brought instant happiness to everyone she touched. I live remote, and I contacted my vet (who vaccinated her as a puppy and treated her as needed). She had a pet crematory that they used approx. 100 miles away and she saw to it. I picked up her ashes from the vet's office and was also given a round clay imprint of her front paw. The cost was $250.00. I put half her ashes in some woods we hunted a lot and the other half in a lake that we spent a lot of time in/on. Damn, they just NEVER live long enough!
  21. Dylan.......looked disinterested, couldn't understand a single word he said. Describes every Dylan concert I've been to
  22. No "Kate is Great" what the.........
  23. Best....Lynyrd Skynyrd Band. Went from the "sunset loose load" directly to the stage front and center, with about 15-20 of us all in "max track" mode before the band came out. So we all decided to "top the tanks off" and WOW! No warm up band, early to middle 70's. The band lined up their guitars across the front of the stage and started playing and out comes a short guy" with the hair colored yellow" and looks at us..... than spits tobacco at us, smiles and break into "give me 3 steps". Worst....Van Morrison at the Celebrity Theatre in PHX in 70's. Fell off his stool a few times and "nodded". Strung out to the max on junk! Didn't even play "brown-eyed girl"! Everyone should have got a refund after that non-performance.
