  1. Has there ever been any thought given to seperating out the incidents forum? I mean this in terms of skydiving related, BASE related, and aircraft related. The current layout has a user logging on and seeing that there were X number of incidents this weekend, but when they go into the forum they find that they all have to do with BASE or an aircraft haveing a problem or something related. I know that as skydivers we can learn from some of these incidents and apply it to our knowledge of skydiving, but I also think it would be better to seperate them out into seperate categories so we can read about each type of incident individually. Plus, for example, if a visitor comes to the site, they see that there have been 1032 threads about incidents. Without being a registered user one can just see that this is a skydiving site and the incidents forum lists that many incidents -what they don't know is that not all of these apply directly to the sport of skydiving-in fact a brand new registered user just coming into the forum may not realize this either. In addition, in the past there have been some threads that it was unsure until midway through the thread whether it was skydiving or base related. Seperate forums would help organize that as well. My suggestion is to add another category for incidents. As of right now when one clicks on the forums tab, they are brought to a page of categories with each forum listed as a sub category (General, Community, Skydiving, Skydiving disciplines, Related Sports, etc.) Why not title one of these categories as Incidents and have 3 seperate forums - Skydiving Related, Base Related, and Aircraft Related? Any thoughts? *daizey*
  2. 1 painful shoulder:3:2 3 fun jumps at SGC this weekend. Would have liked to have done more but my shoulder was killing me on both Saturday and Monday and we left the dz early on sunday which put a damper on the jumping...but I dont care, I still had lots of fun! First jump was a drill dive with my honey, 2nd was a hop and pop with demo of my PD reserve and the third was a high pull where I learned that I love my reserve! I also learned that it was not loving me back when it opened HARD and now my neck and shoulder are pretty sore Thanks a lot to PD and SGC for having the demos up there. I have wanted to demo my rerserve for awhile now and so glad I did! I'm no longeer dreading having a cutaway and i know fully what to expect in terms of the canopy now! Good thing too cause it flew completely different than I thought it would! Beer is owed for my first time flying a reserve canopy and for something else I was technically not allowed to do-but it was soo much fun!!
  3. "Force" doesn't typically happen for general swimming lessons. Should all kids be enrolled in full tiem swimming lessons and be on a swim team? No way. I saw plenty of kids who were forced to do this and hated it. However, I agree that parents should have kids taught at least the beginnings of swimming. I don't cvare if a kid or anyone for that matter can go out and swim the butterfly. But I do care that they can keep themself afloat. Summer camps and party arer for fun...yes..which is what a childhood is about isn't it? *daizey*
  4. In response to the original post... I know how to swim...learned when I was young. Swam competitively for a few years but grew to dislike it. Was a lifeguard for 4 years and a water safety instructor as well. Went on to coach a team and give swimming lessons and loved every minute of it. Just about everyone I know knows how to swim...partially because I made sure to teach the ones who didn't *daizey*
  5. Ever watch a kid nearly drown? I have. Changes one's perspective on this quite a bit. As for the there being supervision? The child I watched nearly drown was at a birthday party. Tons of kids around. Tons of parents too. Kid was in the middle of a bunch of kids playing..noone even noticed they were under water and not resurfacing. Luckily the lifeguard noticed. *daizey*
  6. one pair of exhausted arms:2:1 What a great weekend! I got current again and had one of the best skydives I have ever had. Packed a ton and made a bunch of money, then had an interesting jump where my toggles knoted to my risers and I chose to land the canopy on rears-i even managed to nearly stand it up! Yay for me! However, it was exhausting to my arms! Beer is defintiely owed for that one! *daizey*
  7. About a 1/4 of my life packed:0:0 Parents are officially kicking me out of the house, which is ok since i have a house of my own now. Still kinda sad though....and a lot of work! Who the hell knew I had so much stuff??? No jumping...next weekend however should be a different story
  8. i dont believe so. I just signed up for an acct and add anything I want to keep to my favorites That sites addicting, theres some great stuff on there! *daizey*
  9. I looove Chipotle! I first had it in Ohio and always had to wait until I went back to get it cause i didn't think we had any here. Then come to find out there's like 14 in NYC! It costs me about $20to get one, but its worth every penny! *daizey*
  10. My boyfriend did a skydiving presentation for my class of kids over the summer. They Loved it! He put together a video for them and then took them outside, explained how everything worked and let them try on some of our gear. Then he packed it back up and explained to them what he was doing. The kids were fascinated and had a blast and I think Eric had fun too Here's a link to the post I made from last summer from when we did it *daizey*
  11. At least you can swing through niagra falls and hit some big cities across NY so you can at least see some light on the drive haha. But if you want to see waterfalls that arent nearly as huge as niagra there's always bushkill falls not far from Scranton...a little out of the way, but i think worth to see. It's a hiking trail through a segment of the pocono mountains Oh and you go through Punxsutawney on 80 through PA. From what I understand theres some gift shops and funny things about the groundhog there. Im not looking forward to travelling 80 the opposite way in a few weeks *daizey*
  12. It's 81 dear, not 79 Eric's right, 80 is insanely boring and theres not that much interesting along the way. Except trees. The dz at hazleton is pretty cool though. If nothing else, be careful through hazleton cause theres cops a lot through that area. Oh, there is one more interesting thing about 80-the road turns red at one point. So if you are driving and think you are going crazy, you're not-it really s that color. If you want a more interesting route, head North when you get to Ohio up towards Buffalo. If you have the time, hit Niagra falls! You can then follow 90 out to albany and 87 down. It's far more interesting-but it does take longer. And you can expect tolls all along I-90 *daizey*
  13. I grew up in a small town-where everyone knew each other. It was cool for awhile, then as I got older, it kinda sucked. I moved to just outside of NYC for college. I loved it. I still do somewhat. I love the city and all it has to offer. I'd love to live in the city for 6 months just to live the experience. I don't think I could stay there forever though. I'm not a big fan of the fast-pace as much as I am of the culture, diversity, entertainment, and convenience a city has to offer. However, I'm not directly in the city, I'm on long island, and the area where I live right now...let's just say these people I'm surrounded by are making me want to leave today! I will be leaving New York soon. I'm moving to Ohio. A far cry from NYC, but I'll be living in the suburbs of Columbus, which remind me a lot of where I am now-except a bit slower and with nicer people! I can deal with that. I'm not sure I could ever go back to the small town feel. I like having a large city right near by. It's what makes me happy and what works best for me. *daizey*
  14. I'm a law and order girl. Particularly SVU. My roommate and I used to sit up watching it all the time till all hours of the morning on USA lol. Shes a total Law and Order addict. *daizey*
  15. Eric and I will be there! That will be either my first or second weekend back in Ohio! I can't wait, i miss SGC
  16. :: I agree, that is a very nice looking video flyer in the first shot. He's quite hot too No jumps for me this weekend. Instead I went out rollerblading at the beach and had a great time. Followed that by working all weekend/ I miss SGC...only a few more weeks till I'm there for the summer, I can't wait
  17. Happy Birthday Paige! Hope we get to see ya again sometime soon! *daizey*
  18. I'm less that 5 feet. Just shy of 4'11 in fact..... 4 feet 10.75 inches lol.
  19. When you've never referenced areas in blocks it can be hard to understand...not everywhere is set up in near perfect blocks of area...saying it's "just a block" really does no more to define it if you don't understand the concept. Since Manhattan is only 13.4 miles long and 2.3 miles wide at its widest point, that wouldn't allow for too many blocks and Manhattan wouldn't see nearly as huge Generally, its twenty north-south city blocks that equal a mile. They say that if you are a brisk walker, you can cover about a block a minute.
  20. Very addicting. I think its kinda sad that my bigest thrill on sundays sometimes is getting the paper so i can clip the coupons! I think my boyfriend thinks I'm psychotic Then again he sees how much money we end up saving food! *daizey*
  21. Nope not an angry reply. Also I didn't say you didn't earn it, just that it would suck if you weren't planning on going back after putting so much into it. But you are going back
  22. Good, Im glad to hear you are going back! I'd hate to see all that work go to waste! Just make sure youc ommit to going back. I have a friend who took a semester off. The semester has so far turned into 3 years. *daizey*
