Thoughts on wingsuit training.....not just mine
voodew1 replied to VectorBoy's topic in Wing Suit Flying
I think that this says it all -- I am not trying to be anti-anything I am raising awareness that if you don't jump at Eloy, the east coast or the west coast your not going to be catered to. Look where the BMI courses are held Florida, Eloy, California last I checked there were a few more states in the US. Wingsuits are very popular overseas probably due to a few common reasons First money is a little more freely spent there, but more importantly due to a smaller region and more wingsuit instructors. If the same is to happen in the US then we need wingsuit instructors that are willing to travel within reason (say once a month) in their state instead of a dozen for the whole US. Maybe Birdman Inc should pull up its instructor list and first see what states don't have a BMI, the size of the state(maybe 2 or more would be better), and if the state has a BMI are the actively promoting wingsuit flight(as some of the dealers/BMIs don't do anything to promote). I am not asking to be given courses for free or even discounted as $300 is not a lot. I am asking to be catered to - bring the course to us don't make us come to you-we have been selling suits for Birdman! And you may have to wave the minimum of 3 for a course because it probably just isn't going to happen, yet the future company reward would be great. Just my thoughts to further flight--I would like responses addressing the issues I have brought up not making excuses why it can't happen but what can be done to make it happen. Texas is a big state to only have about 6 wingsuit owners (4 more on order) The pimp hand is powdered up ... say something stupid -

Thoughts on wingsuit training.....not just mine

This is a good point most of us don't have that option nor do we have the money to pay for plane fare and lodging to bring a BMI to our state where there aren't any BMIs active, to make money at our boogies. I am talking about Texas. There are mixed feelings toward the BMIs who make themselves available to go to big giant boogies but can't get the support from the company they represent to come to the not so giant boogies to promote the product. I don't think anyone who is taking up new flyers would have a problem if a BMI came to town to teach new flyers--it would be welcomed and I would love to sit in on a BMI class but I cannot leave the DZ where I work as an AFFI to fly across the country to sit in on a class. As for the BMI course I would be glad to pay the $300 for a BMCI to come and instruct me to be a better instructor---I will not pay his airfare and lodging to do it---that is bullshit---I didn't do it when an AFF course director and evaulator came to my town and I damn sure wouldn't do it for a BMI rating. THIS IS WHAT WE ARE ALL PISSED OFF ABOUT!! Birdman has dozens of closet instructors promoting the product and we are looked down on as hacks---Maybe Birdman Inc should start a tour of states without active BMIs and try to get some active ones. You know who is teaching and where we jump maybe Birdman should come to us the closet promoters of the wingsuit. WE ALL WANT THE SAME -- MORE FLYERS TO JUMP WITH EVERY WEEKEND---SAFELY!!!!!!! Jason "Voodew"Weisberg closet wingsuit instructor and AFFI Skydive Temple Texas USA And I feel better 2 edit--As for the BMIs that were handed a rating I have no knowledge-- The pimp hand is powdered up ... say something stupid -
what does jumping at a turbine DZ have to do with anything--I jump cessnas primarily and have no problem getting over 2 min. How about the Neptune maybe a better product for the tracking of wingsuit jumps no matter what plane you jump from. The pimp hand is powdered up ... say something stupid

Maybe I am wrong but why would you even want to give the legs out signal if the legs are so far out that you are having to chase the student from behind because they are in a track! Try legs in or legs up you should get a better response. The only time you give legs out is in a back slide position if this is the case you are chasing them down face to face! To each his own on what you wear - I see many benefits to the student with an open face I see very few benefits to me wearing a full face. I feel I can protect myself as AFF is very slow pace at this point and time--it didn't used to be-it was a blurr The pimp hand is powdered up ... say something stupid
-
Lets think about the signal for legs out on a release dive -- tongue out -- kind of hard to see thru a full face helmet and hard to hand signal if your tracking after them. You will get great response from a big smile or verbal OK that your student can read from your lips--this can only be done with an open face helmet As for the AAD issue hmm... my life...a wingsuit I am pro life on this issue - i won't do an AFF with out a cypres there are to many things that are not 100% in your control - in time you will learn to duck the thow as most try to knock your block off edit to add It would be nice to trust that the reserve AFFI isn't going to do something stupid! The purpose of me buying a fleet of demos is to provide skilled flyers or jumpers I know that have had instruction in the past with a suit or suits to allow more jumpers to taste flight. The BMIs are not compensated enough to make a trip to teach 1 or 2 potential fliers. There are numerous DZs that have jumpers who want to try a wingsuit but have no way to do so with out a BMI--they cannot afford to bring a BMI to teach them and can not justify flying to a BMI. They do have skilled wingsuit pilots on the DZ that can train up a first flight student but they can't get a demo suit---I will provide it. This works as I recently taught 4 new jumpers to fly with suits that I begged and borrowed and even bought just to do this because no BMIs would attend our boogie(until 12 days before it was to happen which was too late for me to for go my planning) Lastly until BMI is a USPA rating it is not required and all of the SIM recommendations are just that recommendations. I don't mean to upset BMIs that is not my goal. My goal is to have a strong flock in the state of Texas where the BMIs don't come. One year ago I organized a BMI (Tamer Baker) to come to Texas, I set up a tour of central texas DZs, I gave him a place to stay which was my house. He taught numerous first timers, sold some demo suits and flew back home breaking even on his plane ticket because he loved what he did. He got a free vacation! He sold 4 suits on that trip---due to the AOT boogie I helped sell 4 more! BMIs don't want to come to Texas for some reason Hopefully by me stirring the pot things will change The pimp hand is powdered up ... say something stupid

Who has the best $ for new AAD?
voodew1 replied to dubbayab's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If your at 750 ft and the plane is going faster than 78ft a second toward the ground the cypres is the last thing I am worried about. You gonna crash!! FXC's and student AADs can under the extreme final approach of an aircraft fire off the reserve - a pilot should not be set up for landing with this steep of approach. What happens above 1000' doesn't matter it only counts after 1000' agl AS AN INSTRUCTOR you should already know this info so you can train your students The pimp hand is powdered up ... say something stupid -
Who has the best $ for new AAD?
voodew1 replied to dubbayab's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Where to buy---most places will be real close to one another. which one?---the vigil is the better buy-less up front and less to maintain but the cypres has been in service longer and the bugs are worked out. The vigil will be better on resale as it can be configured for tandem - expert- or student - plus it has no service life span "yet" The pimp hand is powdered up ... say something stupid -
I don't have a BMI rating because I don't think that I should have to pay for a rating to help a manufactor move their product - plus have to pay to bring them or to fly to them to get the rating. I just want more people to fly with - The pimp hand is powdered up ... say something stupid

I am in the process of assembling a supply of various birdman classic and classic 2 wingsuits for the use as demo suits. The question is if you are not a BMI and do take up first flight students, you are not able to get demo suits, would you pay frieght both ways and collect suit rental (where possible) to be able to use my suits? I am buying them and cannot wear most of them and would like to recover some of the money lost to buy them. I would do same as Birdman $10 rental per jump. I would even rent them out to jumpers without suits who can verify training per weekend discounted rate. I am sure the BMI's will flame me for this but I am all about getting more wings in the air! Thanks to all I remember again why I love to skydive Voodew signing off this post halfjack too! The pimp hand is powdered up ... say something stupid

Well I guess to end this post I would like to thank Ted "professor" for his help, Todd and Kathy for the tailgate plane, and a big thanks to "katiebear21" for loaning out the pint size suit. Levin thanks for loaning out your suit----Phreezone thanks for giving your suit to Kris (he never showed up) but its the thought that counts! Rich, Wendy, Deb, Patrick, Britney welcome to the world of wingsuit -- Kevin, Kylie San Marcos in a few weeks -- Clint, Dave, & Peire as soon as I find a suit ot fit you Thanks to the Waller crew for showing up, bumming suits and getting the 6 and 7 way flocks cooking I am sad to say that Skydive Temple will soon have to give up the title as the top wingsuit DZ in Texas as Waller is about to take the crown with the 4 suit to be ordered and the 2 used ones there now. Now for the first flights -- everyone did great and had a good time. The most impressive was that little 95 pounder named "brits17" that posted 2nd half avg of 50mph and overall average of 59 on her first jump in Katie's Classic 2. 2nd jump was overall average of 53mph. I think with a roll of twine and a good breeze we could fly her like a kite. To those that got to fly this weekend go out and buy a suit so we can fly together, to those that I couldn't accomidate I will find suits to buy to have my own demo fleet shortly (We will get this done with or without the help of "OTHERS") Anyone in Texas who has a suit we need ot plan weekend get togethers at least a few times a year in this state -- let me know. Had a blast be back next year to do it again and watch the flock grow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks to ALL who help make this a success Voodew AKA "halfjack" The pimp hand is powdered up ... say something stupid

Well I take back all the things I said about Kris I guess you will feel the tailgate exit after all The pimp hand is powdered up ... say something stupid

For those of you that don't know this was a picture one of those tabloids took when I was trying out for the lead in the movie "Old School" I would of had the part if it wasn't for that damn Will Ferrel dude PS do you think KFC is still open Theo is just jealous 'cause my ass is so sexy----he normally can't see it 'cause it is always above his (I am a little floaty in my wingsuit) Ted, I hear that Kolla is going to be there--bring the party pics and maybe we can get one of those cool Katana shirts. You might want to forward a copy of them to her to refresh her memory! The pimp hand is powdered up ... say something stupid

Ted you are correct!! Now lets explain to all the wanabe wingsuit pilots out there that if you can pull stable this is not an problem!! Then explain that any decent skydiver can pull in a stable position wearing a wingsuit!! I will let the conclusions be drawn The pimp hand is powdered up ... say something stupid

And I'll be the one opening after him... and 500 ft higher.Quote He is not kidding------- He normally falls down inside the plane trying to walk -- than he just rolls to the door. This accounts for the last one to open and as for the "500 ft higher" well lets just say PUSSY The pimp hand is powdered up ... say something stupid

I will find you and we will set a time - I will be the one that opens long after all the RW and freefliers The pimp hand is powdered up ... say something stupid
