  1. My apologies for upsetting this thread that is really about more tunnels being built to provide more fun for flyers and skydivers.
  2. Don't mind me - I just get pissed off reading the incidents threads of fantastic people getting badly injured or worse.
  3. I must say I disagree with the "minus the thrill" part of this post in the 1st sentence. Flying in a wind tunnel is the thrill of a lifetime every time. hARD TO UNDERSTAND ANYONE CLAIMING OTHERWISE BUT MAYBE i AM JUST EASILY THRILLED. :) Tunnel flying may have evolved from skydiving but is fast becoming independent of it as a serious sport of it's own. But as stated tunnel flying has everything a freefall from an aircraft has except the lethal dangers.
  4. Sounds like u use a "slim jim" - that and a set of jigglers and u can unlock and start many cars and trucks.
  5. True but with modern skydivers coordinating and doing skydives in those parts of the movie.
  6. An ad on Miami TV today said it is being released on Christmas day - just in case anyone is interested.
  7. Jum[ing into cloud cover ??? Seen on the 7 minute video.
  8. Wondering how much horsepower is in each of the 16 fans it will have up top and how high the max wind speed would be?
  9. Boomer you said - "...to pay back to the FAA all of the grant many the airport has received over its history. " Do you know any cfr or some FAA rule that documents that. Reason I ask is that I'm concerned over an airport near me and if there is a documentary reference for the statement it might help me.
  10. 2 an iFLY card for 10 hours 1 And a Pack Opening Band pulling tool."
  11. IFLY Orlando has a tunnel overnight camp coming up Dec 5th 2015. Time can be bought in 15 minute blocks (158 dollars and change per 15. Fly from midnight until whenever depending on how many people show up. Doing a few push ups a day may help build yourself up a bit for it if your upper body isn't in shape. Call them 1 407 903 1150, explain you're a new skydiver and I believe they will work with you. OBTW Eric Gomez is in charge of the overnight camp - so try to speak with him. Good Luck in the windy tube - be careful it IS addictive to some.
  12. 15 minutes in the tunnel and you should be pretty locked in stable on your bellyflyin'. Really cool when the light bulb turns on - arch arch and relax - yeah easier said than done.
  13. Maybe work on developing a good back arch and go for 15 or 20 minutes at iFLY Orlando - in 15 minutes you stand a good chance of attaining good stability in belly flying and be more ready than most for un or less assisted free fall. Lookout - the tunnel can be addictive. :)
  14. Go flying in a tunnel - lot's can be learned there.
  15. So much happening with new tunnels it's hard to keep up with. Probably better to just wait until they are built and try them out then rather than anticipating when, where and who.
  16. Here's an article from the Skydive and Museum Hall of Fame fb page. https://www.facebook.com/NationalSkydivingMuseum/?fref=nf 16 footer - WoW Skydiving Museum & Hall of Fame April 13 · April 13, 2015… The Skydiving Museum & Hall of Fame is pleased to announce it is collaborating with Skyventure iFly to co-locate the Skydiving Museum & Hall of Fame with a 16-foot iFly wind tunnel in North Orlando, Florida. The museum is currently working with a leading design firm to combine building space and functions and iFly is actively searching for a suitable piece of property as a venue for the combined facility. The co-venture is expected to open its doors in 2018. The name on the building will be “Skydive Experience.” The museum will not be a traditional static museum… there will be displays featuring the evolution of gear over the years but even they will have an interactive component. Most displays will be interactive and many will immerse visitors in a dynamic skydiving experience through virtual reality simulators and other high-tech wizardry. The heroes of the sport, who have been inducted into the museum’s Hall of Fame, will be touted through a touch screen technology exhibit. Conceptually, the goal is to make the museum an entertaining and enjoyable experience as well as an informative one. James F. (Curt) Curtis III, President/CEO of the Skydiving Museum & Hall of Fame Board of Trustees, made the announcement at the USPA Board of Director’s meeting and the PIA Symposium in Daytona Beach earlier this month. According to Curtis, “the perfect location for our museum is in North Orlando. We are in close proximity to DeLand, one of the finest skydiving centers in the country, and many other DZ’s are nearby. Orlando is one of the largest tourist destinations in the world which gives us an extensive age group of the public to share our sport.” The museum also plans to open its doors to outside groups for educational experiences and after-hours receptions. “It was the dream of Bill Ottley, a pioneer in the skydiving community, to build a museum dedicated to capturing and preserving the history of skydiving,” added Curtis. “In 2005, when Bill Ottley went to the blue skies forever, he left a sizable bequest to make the dream a reality. We are ecstatic to be able to make Bill’s dream into a grand reality.”
  17. Hey she tried but a kid has to keep it fun. HaHa I'm the same way and always make sure to have some strictly fun flying mixed in with trying the seemingly impossible new skills like back flying and the infamous leg turns. :)
  18. Tunnel time beats root beer or even real beer for that matter but adult traditions are important too. :) That little lady is doing great and will be a pro some day I bet.
  19. Also - Maybe include a trip to a wind tunnel or at least educate the kids that it is available to experience flying like a Hawk in a dive. :) I didn't find thwem until age 65 and sure wish I would have found them sooner. For kids it can be leverage for a teacher to explain why they need to do good in school and get a good career so they can AFFORD to fly like a Hawk. :)
  20. I believe there are 501 C 3 consultants that specialize in advising people accurately on how to set one up. They might be less expensive that an attorney that may have to study up on them if if isn't their specialty plus I would bet the brain power is available on DZ if they would volunteer.
  21. Very similar experience for me upon discovering iFLY Orlando late in life - 2nd adolescence. Not many are lucky enough to get that chance.
  22. Wow, some folks need a lot of convincing!! Just kiddin' it's all good in the wind.
  23. Thanks and - Please keep the photos coming - it is nice to see all that is involved with making this fantastic sport available to we who love it so.
  24. Is the iFLY contact at this link below the contact for all positions that will become available in new tunnels. http://www.dropzone.com/classifieds/Detailed/Employment/Wind-tunnel_instructors_needed_177177.html
  25. You are very fortunate you found the sky relatively early in life, got to try it and at least know it will wait for you to become better situated. I didn't find the wind tunnel (which was love at first sight/touch) until my mid 60's - that's OK though - at least I found it and can now fly my ass off 'till bankrupt. LOL
