Hi Chris (& all), Yeah, I'm looking to buy some camera stuff from KEH Camera Brokers in Atlanta. I'm just exploring the cheapest legitimate way to get it. Anyone had dealings with this company? What're they like? Mike. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. Prenait la pisse hors du FrançaisCanadiens méridionaux puisqu'avant lui à la mode.

Hi all, Quick couple of questions: Who's in Atlanta, Georgia? What's the total sales tax there? Mike. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. Prenait la pisse hors du FrançaisCanadiens méridionaux puisqu'avant lui à la mode.

It's a popular myth that Churchill & Lady Astor detested each other (in fact not liking WS Churchill has only recently ceased to be Treason in the UK). Churchill loved the company of intelligent & witty women. In fact Churchill & Lady A bounced off each other verbally many times (surely proff that both enjoyed each other's company). My own favourite is: Lady A: "You sir are disgustingly drunk." Churchill: "And you Ma'am are ugly... Tomorrow I will be sober." Mike. Did Kallend deserve to be banned from Speakers Corner for this?
miked10270 replied to likearock's topic in Speakers Corner
It's a shame to see Kallend go. IMHO he was a good contributor to SC. But... As was said from the start, "THIS AIN'T NO DAMN DEMOCRACY!" Mike. Edited to add: I hope that this ban will be purely temporary and that Kallend will accept same with good grace. -
My rant isn't about how much aid America is sending, or how much it should send, or whether it's a fair balance for other things america does (the days of selling indulgences has long gone). My rant is about the worlds expectations, and the criticism in the media. For example; Sky News did a piece on northern Sri-Lanka. Tamil Tiger Teritory. The place has been off limits as too dangerous for years as the Tamil Tigers have fought a terrorist war for independence from Sri-Lanka. ANyway, there was Sky News, reporting how the Tamils have had no help while shooting footage of guys in masks on dirt bikes holding Aks. These guys seemed to have nothing better to do than ride around and stare at the cameras. Then a "spokesman" did a piece to camera complaining that America (whose citizens thay habitually kidnap) and The Government (who they've fought against for years for independence) AREN'T SENDING IN ENOUGH AID!!!! Then we have the UN, headquartered in America (at largely American expense), which only seems to achieve anything like unanimity when censuring America, demanding that America do more for the "Tsunami Disaster". Some have stated that America considers itself the worlds "Daddy". If this is so then it has a whole bunck of ungrateful, moody, teenage, money-grabbing Mall-Punk kids. America seems to be damned if it does, and damned if it doesn't. Mike. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. ...Does the world and The UN expect America to do regarding the tsunami (insert crisis of choice)!!!? Don't get me wrong. I beleive that I have an excellent pedigree & track record of Texas/Georgia/Florida/Hawaii/California/.....America bashing (or pi$$ taking - call it what you will). Regardless of that, [rant]I'M GETTING A BIT SICK OF AMERICA PLEDGING EVER INCREASING AMOUNTS OF AID AND THE WORLD NEWS REPORTING THAT THEY'RE NOT DOING ENOUGH!!![/rant] I accept and understand that The US IS the world's richest nation, and the only remaining true superpower. What I cannot accept is the expectation that whatever happens in the world, America will pull a Dollar laden rabbit out of the hat and make it all better! There's a lot of talk of the ugly arrogant American, but the recent news seems to show an ugly avaricious world in it's expectations and demands of American generosity. And before anyone accuses me of being an ugly arrogant right-wing American... Please check my Scottish Socialist profile. Mike. Hi Kev. Please bear in mind that I have dibs on the following obituary: MIKE Suddenly and tragically, aged 97. While returning from a 4 week honeymoon with his new bride, the 19 year old former Miss Brazil, the excitement of a fourth consecutive blowjob in 1 hour caused him to lose control of his private jet and crash into a mountain. He leaves a $10 overdraft and a permanent grin etched into the cliff-face. Mike. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. What a heartless attitude!!! Here we have a poor sweet young girl... A true texan gal who didn't marry for looks, or the fact that her husband drove a BMW, in fact her husband didn't even drive!.... So it must have been love. And now this sensitive, heartbroken girl finds herself a poor, lonely young widow, her dear departed husband's will is challenged and overturned by self-serving so-called family (none of whom bothered to give him a $hag in his declining years). Thus, this poor sweet girl finds herself publicly humiliated and cast out into the cold cruel world by greedy in-laws, shyster lawyers, and a completely unsympathetic legal system - left with almost nothing to fall back on (luckily she does have quite a lot to fall forward on). Surely this sad, bitter tale of avarice perpetrated against such a kindly girl make not only me, but everyone in this fine community want to weep and pour another Bourbon to wash down these funny blue pills. "If you MUST drink Australian export beer..." QED! Here in Scotland we have proper beer... Warm, dark, and graded in Shillings (60/-, 70/-, 80/- 90/- etc...) If we REALLY want to drink Pilsner (lager) beer, then Plzen & Bavaria are only 90 minutes away on the plane!! What I REALLY want to see come out of this disaster is the early warning system they've talked about for 4 years. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Mike. Absolutely. This is no time to bash the UN! But it's always a good time to bash the French!! Err... This was humour! Now that the fact have been resolved earlier in this thread, we return to our favourite sport of taking the pi$$ out of The French and (former) colonials... You know... Revolutionary terrorists, convicts, their descendants!!! Anyway. It's not ALL bad news. I did hear that a supertanker bound for Europe with 600,000 Tonnes of Fosters & Castelmaine XXXX was sunk in the disaster. They did try to control the spill but they found that they couldn't tell the difference between the cargo and the seawater! Mike. This morning, French President Chirac pledged one additional Euro to the disaster fund for every woman's razor sold in Paris the next 30 days. Yeah.... but Chirac has put "Le Fix" in! I heard that Mme Chirac's returning 500 ladyshaves to the shops as unwanted Christmas pressies!.. So he's a guaranteed Eu499 ahead from the start! Mike. No... Spoken like a Cop who after too many years now KNOWS that once the police turn up then they're automatically deemed responsible for the safety & wellbeing of all the fuckwits who caused us to be there in the first place!! Anyway... Even "that" warning won't safisfy the NPAP (pronounced "Encrap"). I'd be accused of failing to offer the "victim" free access to a pen (in a non-threatening manner)! Mike. Did someone mention"french bashing"? There's 2 possibilites here: 1. France has pledged 136,000 Euros. Isn't that about $20mil? 2. France has a MASSIVE rescue op on standby awaiting confirmation that the tsunami DID NOT in fact smash a container ship carrying 27,000 Tonnes of soap. As soon as it's been confirmed that the disaster area is not contaminated with soap & toiletry products at a level considered threatening to the French way of life their rescue effort is on it's way! Hmmm... Perhaps they expected the officer to issue a warning before shooting? Something like: Stop! Armed Police! I require you to cease and desist from your current activity and adopt a non-threatening posture, otherwise the law does authorise me in the use of deadly force to ensure the safety of myself, yourself and others, which I will use if I believe that it is in the public interest, and that the subsequent enquiry by my force, the District Attorney, and any local busybody who hopes to grab some publicity from my anticipated shooting, no matter how ludicrous and partisan or anti-police their viewpoint will exonerate me, and that all subsequent medical treatment, psychological counselling, and compensation in whatever form, for myself and any other party involved in this incident will be given at no personal cost to myself, and I now require you to sign this statement indicating that you have clearly heard and understood this warning!" There. That should cover it. Mike. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. Prenait la pisse hors du FrançaisCanadiens méridionaux puisqu'avant lui à la mode.

Tsunami, Powell: U.S. aid will be 'billions'
miked10270 replied to Lostinspace's topic in Speakers Corner
clip, clop, clip, clop, trot, trot, trot, trot, canter, canter, gallop, gallop... SLAM! Hopefully what DOES come out of this particular tragedy is an early warning system similar to that in The Pacific! OK, it can't give the same degree of warning, but even 30 minutes is better than "$hit - look at the tide going out!!?" Mike. King-Air B-90s are a bit thin on Avsim & Flightsim. THere are a couple of very nice C-90s out there... A little editing of the .cfg file to give 750shp engines a'la B-200 should do it - plus, there's paint kits out there for the King-Air. It all depends on if it's to be flown from the panel/VC or looked at. I remember Mike Mullins' K-A as having the basic Collins avionics fit... Sure as hell no-one has done the actual plane for FS9, but a fairly close pilots view equivalent "could" be constructed from the freeware out there. Mike. PS: Maybe there's a challenge for the skydivers or someone at Tennessee... a 1% "MM" K-A B-90 c/w 750shp turbines & open door..!? Which King-Air? Whose? There's no shortage of "A" & "B" king-Airs available... Some freeware & others (more complicated) payware. If you want say... A King-Air A100... but with 1050shp engines, then all you have to do is edit the ".cfg file in your chosen aircraft download. Hope this helps. Mike. Who's to blame for the Iraq Mess? That's simple... In no particular orderof importance: T.E. Lawrence (of Arabia), for raising Arab nationalism during WWI to gain allies. Woodrow Wilson & David Lloyd George for promising 'said Arabs self-government and then perverting their promises. Almost all of the Middle-East's problems stem from British & American actions during 1915-1919. The remainder stem from the creation of the state of Israel from the country of Palestine post WWII. From Norad: "The tradition began after a Colorado Springs store's advertisement for children to call Santa on a special "hotline" included a misprinted telephone number. Instead of Santa, the phone number put kids through to the CONAD Commander-in-Chief's operations "hotline." The Director of Operations, Colonel Harry Shoup, received the first "Santa" call on Christmas Eve 1955. Realizing what had happened, Colonel Shoup had his staff check radar data to see if there was any indication of Santa making his way south from the North Pole. Indeed there were signs of Santa and children who called were given an update on Santa's position. Thus, the tradition was born." Meanwhile, a link: http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0IBP/is_12_44/ai_68507673 The only REALLY amazing thing about this tale is that Harry Shoup didn't get his Star for this. Mike. I appreciate that Santa's not real. I know that even as he allegedly existed, he has been changed by myth and advertising so much that he has ceased to resemble St. Nicholas (a devout early Turkish Bishop), or the man who dropped gold coins down the chimney of ancient Scandanavian spinsters so they would have a dowry and could marry. I even know that Santa used to wear green & brown furs until a certain cola manufacturer got in on the act in the 1930's. So it's not a case of being "hung-up on the Santa Myth"... It's a case of appreciating the value of the myth over the value of the truth. Who said "Is there in truth no beauty"? (before Dr. McCoy said it in Star-Trek). Mike. With all due respect, I believe that YOU'RE missing the point. Yes... I remember when I believed that Santa-Claus climbed down the chimney & left me presents. I remember that I was so good that a total stranger deemed me worthy (not just my Mum), a guy who lived in North Lapland who took an interest in me - cared enough to make me toys and bring them to me in the depths of winter. Now I'm a parent. My kids KNOW that I love them unconditionally. My 4 year old also knows that some guy in Lapland (Is that where the dancers come from, Daddy?) cares enpough about him that he'll bring him presents at an otherwise bleak time of year. My 2 year old knows that something (good) is afoot. My 10 year old knows better... but'll still hit the Santa-Tracking website and'll be half amused AND HALF CREDIBLE. My recent foster daughter (14 years old and still getting used to living with people who don't get pissed, in both the English & American senses of the word, and hit her if she hasn't done the housework - expect "Cinder-Sinead" to be a new member here after her first jump on her 16th birthday) is understandably somewhat cynical and is still trying to get her head around the idea that The BBC, Reuters, the DOD, NORAD etc... are ALL treating this as serious news, doing things like questioning the cost of the airforce escort / should Santa be allowed to low-overfly Buckingham Palace or The White House, Etc... Sinead is "puzzled" but likes the idea.

Having interacted with many "ordinary" Americans on many levels (particularly in military & law enforcement)... My first reaction to this prisoners statement is (everyone together now)... AHHH...Diddums... What a shame Then again, I did have the privelege of talking to Hein Fehler, who was a German Naval Officer in WWII and surrendered to the Americans. I think it's fair to say that Americans DO NOT treat their prisoners of War with humanity. The "We Won - You're Shit" mentality does seem to be endemic to American (Union) treatment of prisoners throughout American history. So I suppose you pays your money & takes your choice. Was he treated inhumanely? Did he deserve better? Mike. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable.
