Maybe Viktor Yanukovitch could run against him? He's probably Zimbzbwe's best bet... What with his previous experience in winning this type of election on a 115% voter turnout! Mike. Well, here we go. It's looking like there's going to be an election in the UK (that's GREAT BRITAIN to you snivelling former colonials) in the near future. So... Here's an opportunity for Foreigners (& particularly Americans) to comment on same. Look on it as revenge for Your Presidential elections. Unlike The US, there's only a few weeks formal notice of an election which I'm guessing WON'T be enopugh time for Y'all (what with having to find out where Great Britain is & all)... So we'll start early! In the Red Corner, we have The Right Honourable Antony Wedgewood Blair, Labour Party member for Sedgefield, where he is known as "Phoney Tony". He is campaigning on a manifesto written on the back of a credit card which basically says: "I've been Prime Minister for 8 years & look what I've done. Trust me! In the Blue Corner, we have The Right Honourable Michael Howard, Conservative Party member for Transylvania East. He is campaigning on a manifesto of: "We'll give you more money and better hospitals for which we'll charge you money!" Regrettably, last time his party was in power they buggered the hospitals with their policies. It also didn't help that when Michael Howard recently visited a hospital he spoke to one crumbly for the benefit of the media before handing over to his wife while he broke into the Blood-Bank shouting; "Where do you keep the warm stuff!?" In the centre, rather like a chain-smoker in No-Mans-Land, we have The Right Honourable Charles Kennedy, Liberal Party Member in The Nearest Bar. He is campaigning on a manifesto of: "The other parties are always wrong! Mine's a LARGE Whisky & Red Wine with a Guinness Chaser!" I'm sure that The Brits will confine themselves to comments like: "This is OUR Election so keep out!" But I'm sure that we will value the opinions voiced by our American Cousins. Mike. Disclaimer: Some, all, or less of the political parties may have other Election-Promises (l:Bribes), but we can porbably safely ignore them just like the winning party does. Perhaps the important question is: "Would Ozzie actually notice his jewellery being carted away if it were confiscated?" I think we should discuss this in depth... Mike. You are a master of understatement. t Hi Tonto, I don't know if you ever saw the series: "The Nazis - A warning from history"? It was made by the BBC in 1997 & I think it's available on disc & tape etc... It makes for "interesting" viewing. Mike. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. Personally, I think that the Swastika should be legal. It wasn't the symbol which was evil. The regime which adopted it had evil facets. The Nazi Regime would have been the same under the Swastika as it would have been under a design of "Stars & Stripes" or various "Crosses & Saltires" or "Hammers & Sickles"! In short, blame the regime and the circumstances which made it attractive to people.... Not the Graphic! Mike. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. I think that a "militia" quickly formed from the general populace would preclude such weapons. I think of a militia as a "light infantry": Quick to raise & train. Short logistical tail. Able to adapt to guerilla tactics using local knowledge... Kind of like Britain's Home Guars & Stay-Behinds of 1940. The idea being that they would render "conquered" territory very difficult to govern and drain an oppressor's military resources from the front line - Thus making the regular army's job easier. In such circumatances "heavy" weapons would be a hindrance due to their visibility. So y'all can forget about using The Second Amendment to justify having a fully equipped Bradley - no matter how good it is at cutting through the Rush-Hour traffic! Mike. Yeah, like I said, there's a lot of complexity in this amendment. And going back to when it was written, there wasn't really such a thing as a "military" or "non-military" firearm. The weapons used by farmers to shoot birds or control vermin were largely the same ones they'd carry when they "Formed Line" to repel invaders. Yet, since then military equipment & tactics HAVE evolved. In particular, military weaponry is a lot more sophisticated. Also, society's definitions of acceptable behaviour regarding firearms have changed. Once, not all that long ago, it was completely acceptable to drive your wagon into town and carry your Winchester repeater with you while you got your supplies.... Yet try walking through your local shopping mall today with your M-16 slung over your shoulder and see what happens! Yet public carry is acceptable in some places - I lost count of the number of rifles & handguns I saw just carried around in Montana. My own view is that a militia was to be raised from the netire population. As such, some form of weapons / military training should also be mandatory, perhaps in high school? Sort of a "Drivers Ed." for guns & soldiering? It is certain that any firearm with a military application must be allowed. Therefore, fully functioning "Modern Military Weapons", and in particular weapons firing the same ammunition as used by the US Military are specifically desired by this Amendment.... Remember that the days of "Your rifle comes with a bullet mould and powder horn" have long gone. For todays infantry, ammunition is something that comes in boxes labelled "5.56mm Ball" and reloading spent cases isn't all that practical in the field. As far as concealed carry is concerned, then The Second Amendment is silent on this simply because it was never envisaged. You could carry openly at the time & the only reason you'd "conceal" would be to keep the gun dry in the rain! That said, having been given the right to bear arms, how you do so is surely a matter of personal choice. Finally, there is the interpretation of "Security of a free state" to consider, and it can be argued that a universally well-armed population can ultimately only be governed with their consent and thus the freedom of the people from "enemies, both foreign & domestic" is assured through their enhanced ability to resist DIKTAT should they ever need to do so. There's the concept of "irony" or "poetic Justice" in my last post. Maybe you missed the deliberateness of it. There's also one small but significant difference: "Your behaviour towards them is then, of course, up to you." That's called individual right. No Kristallenacht! No "Final Solution"! I believe that the Nazi (NSDAP) Swastika SHOULD be allowed. Mandatory would be nice, but not really neccessary since all the little Hitler Wannabees will flock to it and wear "their" badge with pride. So yeah... I'll trust the stupidity of adherents to the Nazi political philosophy to do the rest. Mike. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. The Second Amendment is fascinating - such a complexity in so few words. I suppose it all depends where you put the "accent" on the sentence. The "Gun Control" faction place it on the first part; "A well regulated militia", then point to The Us DoD and say a militia has been fully replaced by a military. The "NRA" Faction place it on the last part; "the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." and argue that if you want a gun, then that is your right. BOTH are taking that part of the amendment which suits their purposes. Taking The Second Amendment as a whole, then would a reasonable interpretation be similar to the Swiss or (old?) South African policy whereby at the end of a person's military service then the "retired" soldier would retain his weapons & kit and maintain his currency in weapons competence in order to respond to a threat to his country. As such, I don't see The Second Amendment as some "automatic" right to own or possess firearms. Nor do I see the US Military as a de-facto reason to refuse citizens such a right. I see it as promoting the formation of a militia comprised of responsible people, proven by service, and available if needed. Mike. Y'all know... It's NOT the symbol, it's the behaviour. Personally I'd like to see the "Nazi" Swastika allowed anywhere. I'd also like to see it made mandatory wear for all the right wing lunatics... A little like the yellow star was made mandatory for Jews in Nazi Germany. Give the faschists their badge! Let them... No... Make them wear it. Then you know them for who & what they are. Your behaviour towards them is then, of course, up to you! Mike. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. I "think" he was the search officer / person who stopped that paragon of the British Colonial System "Gitface Reid" from setting fire to his trainers. Finally!!! And it's not a con!!! Researchers have finally made the breakthrough so sought for by all those folk who hitherto have spend a fortune on Creams, Botox injections, and even Cosmetic Surgery in an attempt to hide their wrinkles! What's more, not only is this breakthrough effectively non-invasive, it's also relatively inexpencsive and "could" even be performed without medical supervision!

Lawyer crosses the line, time to pay the piper!

I hope this sends a message to the lawyers - you can be locked up! At the point (and to the extent) that she stepped outwith the proper Lawyer/Client relationship she rightly lost the privelege of Lawyer/Client privacy! IM(nv)HO she has rightly been found guilty of accession to terrorism. Mike. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. MY POINT EXACTLY!!!! She IS being treated differently! Not least by some of the comments in this thread. I suppose this is a question of whether you consider a male in his 14th year a "child" (and of course a lot depends on the individual male - some are more precocious than others at that age). I would suggest that in the interests of justice, we should know more about the adoloscent male involved BEFORE we hurl accusations like "Paedophile" and "Child-Molester" at this woman... But needless to say this will not be forthcoming. For example, Ryoder made an excellent point earlier when the "victim in a similar case (Latourneau) admitted that he was the one who made ALL the running... So who was/is really the "victim"? Mike. So yes. She "broke the law". Further she broke the law in THAT state. My point is that the resulting negative moral judgements made of her and her "victim" are narrow minded & unfair. Mike.
