Seriously, thank God for brave souls who stood up to such evil. And the leaders didn't have to lie to the people to justify it, either. True... Although there were a few raised British eyebrows at the thought of fighting WITH the French AGAINST the Germans! That was the true measure of Hitler's evil! But oh for the days when politicians & premiers didn't lie, and would resign their position if they fucked up!.. THEN still offer to serve their successor in any capacity they could!!! Mike. Good news in CA (mitigating climate change)

Don't you have all that "Surf" stuff in Cali? The reason I ask is that we build the Pelamis wave-power generators where I live. -
except the fact that the pipes point the wrong way. The saving lives BS is to defend the self centeredness of the rider in question. Source? Every bloody Vehicle Vs. Bike accident I ever attended (not a few). All the times the other vehicle driver said: "I never saw him!" All the times the other vehicle driver DIDN'T say: "I never heard him." It's visibility, not noise that makes the difference with the less stupid car drivers. Nothing short of a forward-firing RPG will make the difference for the really dozy ones - and it'll still be the flash that gets their attention, not the bang! Mike. PS: If you ReALLY want tomake sure you're not pulled out on, get a replica of your local police bikes! Even the worst (Volvo-driving) fuckwit has no trouble noticing them! I did hesitate to mention this... But adapting insecticides to get rid of a perceived pest kind of goes against the grain of modern German culture! Mike. How about a cat Christel? To a rodent, a cat's teeth and claws are weapons, and they are employed by the cat to commit violence against the poor rodents. So... You'd be in favour of "Tooth & Claw Control" then? Regardless of the impact this could have on law-abiding peaceful cats? Mike (Who get's JR's sense of humour!) There's still quite a few breeders in Britain who do working strains.

We have 3 of them.. Right Christel! You as well! Stand in the corner and put the pointy hat on! You can come out after you've written: "I will go and buy a Dackel!" 100 times! Mike. A cat? A CAT!!??!! In the homeland of The Dackel you're recommending a cat!!? Go away and stand in the corner! Go on! Now! Mike Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. Prenait la pisse hors du FrançaisCanadiens méridionaux puisqu'avant lui à la mode.

Could be interesting. Channel 4 has a deserved rep for making VERY sophisticated & thought-provokling films. I'm betting it's a lot more about America than just a politician (any politician) getting shot. And... We've got until 10/10 to order our Nomex coveralls, steel helmets & body armour for the ensuing discussion here.

Apparently there is a significant backlash! In the meantime, here's some examples of the sort of SICK SHIT that'll get you 3 years jail. Near nakedness. Torture. Blood. Death. Actual event!!! Mike. UK readers blocked from NY Times terror article
miked10270 replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
Hi ANdy, Thanks for the article. Good read. Nothing significant we didn't already have, but well presented & organised. I think that Nick's concern is that the defence MAY claim that the jurors in the trial have been prejudiced by the media coverage (The "OJ-Defence") and COULD get a technical "Not-Guilty" on that basis. The defence has already shown it's willingness to try & play on any technicality to get their clients off... Witness the attempt to get one, then all released because the reason for a continuation of detention wasn't adequately explained by the judge at an interim hearing - like the defendants didn't KNOW why they were in custody, only that it hadn't been fully explained for the THIRD time!!! Hence the clamp-down on publicity in Britain until after the trial. Bear in mind that in Britain, potential jurors aren't questioned by the prosecution or defence to test their suitability. Each side may reject a few jurors (I think 3 each) but that has to be done "on-sight" rather than by interview. Mike. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. Sorry for the delay in responding. The delay had NOTHING to do with wiping massive sections of my hard drive -- 'cos I wasn't!!!" It's simply the latest example of the strange concept that: "Since I have suffered in some way, I now have the right to control the behaviour of others!" Reading the original reports of the murder of Jane Longhurst by Graham Coutts, it's evident that he already had a fixation with violence and strangulation as a fetish. It's probable that he used the "resources" of the internet to feed & explore this fetish (to educate himself?), but "violent-porn" on the internet DID NOT create this fetish in him. Still. We're at the early law-making stage of "Ministers-making-announcements". Let's see if cooler heads prevail during the actual drafting of the law - along with teh realisation that "The Obscene Publications Act already covers a major part of this, and just where the line will be drawn relative to MPs own porn collections. Agreed. Ahmadinejad would go in intending to speak rather than listen. Points will be made, but not answered. I expect that both the debaters and the audience would be simply left feeling frustrated at the fact that no progress was made. A couple of "no-holds-barred" interviews with somebody like Jeremy Paxman would be far more entertaining! We could lay bets on whether the CIA or the Fatwa gets Paxman first. Mike. I have! US Army. Vietnam. Followed by most other armies. The M14 was quite simply "too-much-gun". Hence the .223" AR-15 (which was originally more intended for 95lb ARVN troops). Of course, the .223" is now realised to be "too-little-gun"... By a convoluted route, we're gradually going back to a 7x43mm (.280") as the "best" balance between power & controllability & quantity & carriability in an infantry weapon, but we've been there several times before in other threads. The US Army is SOooo... needing to build a stockade somewhere near Tikrit. OK. I'm against the continued deployment in Iraq, BUT... I'm a damned sight more against volunteer soldiers saying: "Sorry mate, I don't fancy this particular war!" Mike. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. The true orgin of the current Mideast conflict?
miked10270 replied to cumplidor's topic in Speakers Corner
the title of the thread suggests Israel has. When it's obvious that Dier Yasin DIDN'T start it. This was an Israeli response to an Arab action... Which was a response to an Israeli action... Which was a response to an Arab action... Which was a response to.... And so on and so on... Put an Arab & an Israeli scholar together in a suitably & comprehensively equipped library and they could play a sophisticated version of that well-known KINDERGARTEN game: "He Started It!" for millenia!!! Certainly far longer than the actual conflict has been going. Hence, just to cut through 7,000 or so years of tit-for-tat, I thought I'd get to the origins of the problem. MOSES STARTED IT!!! Moses led the Israelites into Palestine. Iin response, of course, to Pharoah's enslavement of them... But that wasn't the Palestinian's fault, was it. They were just sitting minding their own business when Moses and the Israelites turned up claiming some Godly - Squatters rights! There. Thread answered. Now that we've sorted out who started it... Can we now turn our attention to how to end it. Fairly and reasonably so that BOTH sides can live with the result!!? Mike. PS: Play the post, not the poster? PPS: That's my kids' mentality when they're spatting. Mine is to end the spat and fix the problem. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. The true orgin of the current Mideast conflict?
miked10270 replied to cumplidor's topic in Speakers Corner
Here we go again... Who started it! After careful consideration of both the historical & religious viewpoints... I blame Moses & Pharoah! IF Pharoah hadn't gone all wobbly over a few plagues & stuff and held out a while, then God could have killed ALL the Egyptians and Moses wouldn't have had to lead his Zionist horde across The Red Sea - they could have stayed in the de-populated Egypt. Of course, since Moses was hell bent on finding his "promised Land", they might have gone to Palestine anyway, although taking 40 years to get from The Nile to Palestine tends to suggest some weakness in navigational technique. Mark of respect or provocative symbolism?
miked10270 replied to shropshire's topic in Speakers Corner
But not necessarily of action, particularly if their action incites others to commit crimes or is in breach of public peace. For example, in the current climate, a person may be a visibly devout Muslim, but must accept the personal consequences were he to shout: "Allah-u Akhbar!" (God is Great) as the plane he's on takes off!! OR a Sikh may wear his ceremonial dagger in public without fuss, but if he's shouting that he's going to kill somebody, then he can expect an offensve weapon charge to be added and arrest to be more immediate. It's all in the circumstances. Mike. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. Prenait la pisse hors du FrançaisCanadiens méridionaux puisqu'avant lui à la mode. -

miked10270 replied to shropshire's topic in Speakers Corner
Do I detect a hint of jealousy there!!? Yeah... We don't have PACE. We have The Criminal Procedure (Scotland) Act & various evidential rules which give an equivalence to English Law, but a different way of getting there. We also have a wide range of "Common-Law" crimes, including the wonderful (and jealousy-inspiring) catch-all "Breach of the Peace". Acting in a riotous or disorderly manner to the alarm, annoyance or disturbance of "the lieges"
