  1. I suppose that Bill now has 2 options to offer the (now strangely silent and invisible) helicopter: 1. Provoke a massive armed response by picking up a pack of cigarettes, opening it, removing one and fligking a lighter in a threatening manner.. 2. Pull his shirt cuffs down to cover his hands, and use the apparently empty shirt cuffs to hold up a sign that says "No weapons of Mass-turbation here" Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. 6. Didn't someone say "No personal attacks" (no matter how subtle). PDS seems to need help, support and understanding! Once he's confident of that, then guidance can follow. 9. Just got some new whiskey... Any Kentuckians out there? What's "Tom Bulleit Bourbon" like? how does it compare with, say, "Jack Daniels Old No.7", or "Jack Daniels single barrel", "Jim Bean", "John Forrester"? I suppose that someone who's more computer literate (and sober) would have done this as a poll, but seriously, I've been offered "Bulleit" at £13 UK (about $20 - assuming exchange at $1.60/£1) & I'd be interested to know what the American opinion of this whiskey is... Is it well known? Is it viewed as a quality product? Has anyone ever heard of it? Should I stop buying my whiskey from "Phil the Greek"? Incidentally it's marked as "Export". Does this mean the same in the US as elsewhere (get it OUT of the country before the excise man comes)? It's 45% proof, so at first it seems a bit rough, but if you dilute it with Absinthe... You get to the root cause of this disjointed post. Seriously... what's YOUR view of "Bulleit"? Mike. PS: Can I suggest a you read PDS's recent threads... OK, they're locked now, but he's in pain and needs to know he's not alone. There's an E-Mail on his full profile... Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. 13. If the cop has reasonable suspicion, then he can apply for a warrant to enter your house by force and search it. Any resistance would be met with reasonable force - the amount of force depends on the amount of resistance... If the search is positive, then you go to trial. The intention is to force a change of government in Iraq. The intention is not to kill Iraqis, even Saddam Hussein. I'd bet that the US and UK military units would hope to drive to Baghdad without expending anything more than Diesel. Remember Serbia? Did the coalition forces KILL Milosovic? No, he's presently undergoing trial at the Hague! I must admit my stance has changed. Until recently I was "anti-intervention", I am now "pro-intervention", both in this case and in the upcoming case against North Korea. I believe that we are moving into a more dangerous time in history - perhaps even more dangerous than we experienced during the cold war. Our model of peaceful, tolerant civilisation cnnot survive without a strong defence of it and prophylactic action IS justified at this time. Just my $0.02 (and it's time to return the rented soapbox). Mike. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. 14. Just my $0.02... How soon we forget! WE forget that Iraq not only HAS WMD in the form of nerve gas, but has a fair history of using it buth against the Kurds and against Iran in the war in the '80's. We forget how the UN Inspection teams were frustrated at every turn, refused access to places they wanted to examine for 48-72 hours, and this happened so often that they ultimately left in disgust! Iraq has only allowed UN Weapons Inspectors in the last couple of months, and they have started by looking in the sites they were refused access to 5 years ago! The Iraqis only allowed the UN back when faced with the sure and certain promise of imminent invasion, and seem to be co-operating with the UN so far. One wonders if their WMD programs have been dismantled, or simply moved. I suspect that the UN will get co-operation only as long as they aren't finding anything! If the UN teams start to "get warm" then expect a repeat of 1995. I honestly believe that the only sure way of stopping Saddam Hussein developing WMD IS to invade, change the regime, and I suspect that suddenly the information will flow about his WMD programs. A change of regime will also remove the reasons for the blockading of Iraq and will ultimately benefit the common Iraqi! I accept that there is no political alternative to the Ba'ath party and Saddam Hussein in Iraq, Like Germany after WW2. Expect a UN administration to govern the country for some 5 years to allow some democracy to develop in Iraq. As for North Korea, I believe that Bush is the first US President in a long time who WILL give the Chinese the opportunity to make a simple choice of friends... The US and Europe is the source of a MAJOR part of the Chinese trade surplus. Perhaps after Iraq has been dealt with then the Kim dynasty can also be faced. Again, we're looking at a country where the vast majority are impoverished - it's NOT communism, and again I believe that the common North Korean would benefit from a change of government. At present I pervceive the US as being similar to a cop cruising in his patrol car. Heavily armed? Yes. capable of exploding into sudden acts of violence? Yes. Dangerous? Depends on what you're planning to do! Mike. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. 15. I disagree, Pete T already knows whether he gave his credit card number to become a member of a kiddie porn site because it turns him on on not. Valid point, but we don't know yet, that's for the criminal justice system to establish. What I'm saying is that we should treat him as innocent until it's proven different. Mike. 16. Hi there, Let's get one thing clear, Pete Townsend is INNOCENT... At least until all the stuff seized is examined, and IF there's evidence of child pornography, he is prosecuted, and found Guilty. Don't expect rapid results, someone came up with the idea of using CT Search trained cops for the search of Operation Ore suspects homes and workplaces so I was involved in the periphery of some of the searches. ALL recordable media is seized, not just computers, but discs, floppys, videos... We went into one house, normal 2 bedroom semi-detached, and went away with a small van load of stuff. It'll take a long time to go through all of this. We're looking for imaged of pre-pubescent and pubescent children, not the "16 year old college slut" stuff. It'll be interesting to see how the good old British public react to this - It'll not be like the Paul Gadd (Gary Glitter) incident where it started witn the images being already found on his laptop by a computer repairer when it went in for repair. Then again, I don't quite understand the logic behind Gary Glitter being pilloried for having images of 12 & 13 year old girls on his computer while Bill Wyman is effectively ignored for having sex with a 12 & 13 year old Mandy Smith. Which is child abuse? OK, both are, but which is worse? OK both are as bad. Does it mean (in the eyes of the British public and the british legal system) that if you had a pic of Bill Wyman having sex with Mandy Smith when they first started the affair you'd be more guilty of paedophilia than Bill Wyman? Should you be prosecuted? Remember that Bill Wyman wasn't! Mike. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. 17. Hi there, Apart from the fact that I have seen "Dr" Bossellier, and having seen her I sincerely hope for the sake of the human race and our own little gene pool that SHE is cloned from an alien (or at least from an original Star Trek extra who needed surprisingly little makeup)... I tended to suspect that this was a hoax right from the first announcement, when she said that "The first human baby clone.... Is flying back to the US with it's parents". Shouldn't she have said "Parent", not "Parents"? And another thing. Who is the child (or childs if there are really several) clones of? Can someone please reassure me that "Dr." Bossellier has not cloned either herself... Or her hairdresser. If the child is a clone of it's mother, then does that make the child it's own progenitor? If the child is the clone of the mother's sister then is the mother's sister the childs Mother or Aunt? Suppose we extend the possibilities to cousins, grandparents...? If the child is the clone of it's mothers parent, is the child still the Mother's daughter, or vice versa? These questions could tax even Texan Genealologists! Mike. 19. Favourite Simpsons scene: Every episode, the opening credit where Bart's writing his lines, they usually crack me up by provoking the image of why he had to do those particular lines.... "Bart-Bucks are NOT legal tender" "No-One wants to see that!" "Beans are not 'the musical fruit'" and so on... Also some of the things that are going on in the background behind the main storyline. Mike. PS. I don't think it's simply a parody of American life, it satirises small town life everywhere. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. 20. Why is it that whenever a skydiving fatality happens and someone posts a story the FIRST thing that people reply is "lets wait for the official report before we jump to any conclusions". But, by God when a cop story comes out and it looks bad, the cops sure fucked that up! You know what? I wasnt out there. I dont know what happened. The cops might have fucked up. And they might not have. He had a split second to make a decision and maybe he made the wrong one. YOU have the luxury to armchair quarterback it to death from the comfort of your computer chair. The whole situation sounds like it was screwed up. Not enough information to go on, bad witnesses, etc, but the stop had to be made and the report investigated. Well said. Thank you. Mike. 21. Hi there, Once got pulled in the UK for a camp stove in checked luggage. It had been used and despite having been drained and cleaned the gas sniffer picked it up. Anyway, the security staff threw me a whole lot of options: 1. They'd mail it to a destination of my choice at my expense - whatever it cost for a cardboard box and the stamps (but not airmail - I did get cheeky and ask). 2. They'd hold it for me to collect when I returned - maximum 90 days - free of charge, then (small)daily charge to 6 months max. 3. Get a non traveller to take it - they'd tannoy and deliver within the airport. 4. They could confiscate it. All in all I thought they were very fair. OK it WASN'T gettin' on the plane, but apart from that they were bending over backwards to help. The only "strange" experiences I've ever had were at Sky Harbour: 1. Woman at security frantically loking through a list of prohibited articles while muttering "Parachutes can't be allowed on aircraft." I did ask her if she realised what she had just said... ANd finally got on the plane with my rig as carry on. 2. At security and I wanted to go back to a shop. I didn't want to take all my carry-on with me so I waved the Warrant Card at the security staff and asked them if they'd keep our carry on bags. Person I asked sumoned the supervisor who confirmed I was in law enforcement, asked if I was carrying a gun? I said no and he then offered me one!!!!! Mike. 23. Hi Cora, You don't say what your skills are, do you have a wide choice where you work? How easy is it for you to relocate? What are your interests (outside of work & skydiving)? I'll leave the real estate prices, job opportunities etc... to people who currently live in the area they recommend, but all other things being even somewhere close to equal, my vote would be Arizona. NOT (merely) for Eloy / Coolidge, but for the place itself. Whatever else Arizona is, it isn't subtle. The variety of climate, the light, the low humidity and the people there all seem to come together somehow. I've sent a total of 3 months there in the past few years, the first time was a skydiving holiday with a little touring thrown in. Subsequent visits were touring & camping with a little skydiving thrown in(!) and I've barely begun to scratch the surface of the place. Admittely, in June/July Montana would look significantly attractive. Actually Alaska would look attractive (!) but if you can accept 2 months of moving from air conditioned house to air conditioned car to air conditioned workplace/mall/shop then for my money the remaining 10 months would more than compensate. Where else can you go from being in shorts beside the pool in the Valley of the Sun, drive off and be skiing in show low in 2-3 hours in Show Low? Camping in 2 feet of snow on te North Rim to punching the air conditioner in the car 90 minutes later at Navajo ridge? Oh yeah... With a piece of ABSOLUTELY STUNNING scenery thrown in. OK, I'm into the whole "outward Bound" thing, once went camping at the North Rim with my 5 year old in February (NOT recommended unless pi$$sing off park rangers is also a hobby - but the camping itself went fine). If getting close to nature's your thing also then Az, with some 80%+ of the state being public land you're spoilt for choice. One small point, between Diamondbacks, Black Light Scorpions etc... etc... PLEASE remember that this is called the "Wild West", not the "Slightly Inconvenient West". Keep us posted, if you do move to Az I'll be jealous as hell. Regards, Mike. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. Bonus

Also that handwriting is much too neat. What's up with the 5 fingers? Shouldn't a real redneck hand only have 4 1/2? The pic is the "Windows US English" (like there's such a thing as "US English") Redneck Palm Pilot... Y'All are tinkin' of the "Texus Parm peyel't" V1.1. BEER

It's strange... The desirable beer is ALWAYS the imported one. Maybe I'm just "Counter-Culture", but having been brought up within 30 miles of where Newcstle Brown Ale was made it's one of my first choices when I'm in my home village Miners Welfare, that and other local beers. When I'm in the US the it was "Bud" (which is a designer beer at home) or better yet Michelob. In Singapore and SE Asia it was Tiger. In Plzen it was... Can't remember, so it was A LOT OF... Personally wherever I am I tend to go local, not imported... Of course it does involve a lot of money spent on travel, but a lot saved on beer costs, so I suppose it kind of balances out... Time to get the atlas out.... Mike. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. Prenait la pisse hors du FrançaisCanadiens méridionaux puisqu'avant lui à la mode.
