  1. what about that sad family in (Brazil?) that killed their kids and themselves because of their fear of global warming..... ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants
  2. DZs need to:.... HAVE a rule (but it's pointless if they don't:.....) ENFORCE their rule ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

  4. the beggary is much more insidious - imagine if the server got paid at the soup - then got paid at the appetizer, then got paid - etc etc etc a 2 dollar appetizer (15%) tip is 30 cents, what the hell, here's a buck..... multiply by the number of courses....... kind of like boiling a frog ... 5. I absolutely hate the First Man down idea. BUT...... I am 100% in agreement with following WHATEVER the DZ designates as the rule (even FMD on a load of idiots) the reason is that if everyone is following any specific rules, then the pattern has a better chance of being predictable in one way or the other and that helps avoid bad traffic the only real problems I ever see is when someone decides on their own to follow different rules than everyone else....... my only personal rule is to find out the rules at any DZ you visit - follow those rules - when the DZ is unclear about expectations, be more on the defensive at all times ... 7. Sure, just like those that want to extend benefits are actually secretly on a vast mission to ensure your children and grandchildren starve to death due to 100% taxes based on out of control spending. hyperbole is so much fun - it's more fun to attack the messengers than to look at both sides of issues ... 9. I've read the whole thread and I'm very disappointed that we aren't discussing the REAL issue. We need to outlaw down filled pillows and boxes of cookies that lie in wait. for the children ... 10. Funny thing is, I being the religious (what some would consider very religious) agree.. . . . So once again, no freedom leads to the same place. funny thing is - I, being rather agnostic, (what some would consider very apathetic on the subject) agree..) so once again, fundamentalism of any stripe leads to the same place (less freedom) ... 11. ~~ +1 tipping is voluntary - any other attitude from the tipper or the tippee and then it's either begging or extortion (spelling?) I really just wish employers would pay a decent wage and pay for those that do a good job and fire those that don't. Tipping is a really stupid thing. (I have worked for tips and did really well, and I tip well for good service, but I hate the whole concept - And I REALLY hate where it's been taken - it's out of control) Here's a good question: when a server or delivery guy says "do you want change?" how do you react? Tip jars - what do people think of those? Directly asking for tips - how do you respond there? Tips expected for things that never used to have tips - what's up with that. 12. We had a recent tunnel girl go through AFF. 1 - she had trained to Mantis - deal was she could fly mantis during the jump, but had to pull in the big boxman at pull time 2 - they really focused on altitude awareness and canopy control and exits and pull time - (no kidding) 3 - she did great and was able to focus on the other key areas because the freefall portion was comfortable and not an issue 4 - she didn't have an attitude and listened - the AFFIs said she was one of the best students and easiest ever and want more like her - and a couple noted her centerpoint turns were cleaner than they could fly........ Skyjumpinfool seems best answer - take each student and work with what you have. There is no plug and chug answer until you see them in action. I have 3 pre-AFF students in my tunnelcamp next week. We want to prep them to be ready for AFF, but we'll make sure they know that when it's time for the real thing - they do what the instructors say and this prep work is no more than what it is - a good time and a chance to learn to be comfortable flying ... 13. I guess, regardless of the kids' ages, it's important for the adults to live their lives and that the kids are made a part of it - whatever your choices. So yes, the kids know, and no, they have no say on this particular choice. I also think that we have a real odd mix of effects due to the general narcissm of people today. It results in people letting the fact of having kids overwhelm their choices (seems like a conflict, but it isn't - they transfer their narcissism to the kids). Best bet - live your life, consider the kids in your decisions, but don't let being a parent totally control your decisions. It's better for the kids in the end. ... 15. same story here - in fact, when she went out in the suit - grippers and all, with the Javelin backpack (my wife even made some leg straps, and a little 'alti-mini' on a chest straps, it was very cute. And what did the neighbors say? "Ohhh, how cute, you're a little,,,....uh.....scuba diver????" whatever, Lady, out with the candy then Picture - 10 years later..... Edit: She's been at the DZ her entire life. She's very comfortable around adults, loves the DZ and camping there every weekend, she's not interested in jumping, but loves the tunnel. It's been great for her. She knows the decent people at the DZ as well as who the idiots are at the DZ and it gives her perspective on the choices she wants to make about her personal decisions. I think it's a great thing in her life that we share with her. ... 16. Just a small point, you don't actually get to do that for a few years. Other than this is just another thread that highlights how the two parties have ZERO substantive difference in application of what they try to tell us are different philosophies - and thus the conclusion to try something else............ that's a great point another response might be: you mean there are no Libertarians running for Congress in Nov? or locally in his area? or for even dog catcher? .....except that a shallow look at this thread shows it's about the presidency - though a deeper look really shows it's about when the exec and legis branches are controlled by a single party and how that combination really screws things up - dem vs rep in this case is just a matter of degree ... 17. - fake work 'created' by congress doesn't help anyone in the long term - you just as well just take money from those working the private industry and just throw it in the street unless they mean the actual "people" that happen to work in Congress hire the unemployed directly and pay them with their own money - then I can get behind that. How quickly will they figure out that it's best to have the workers do something productive that turns a profit for them? vs some busy work government program that does nothing but transfer funds (after the administration takes its cut) ... 18. Fine - that's clearly an action for the local police and those girls. And those laws should be upheld even if it sucks. But it has nothing to do with the IOC - (retract - sort of ------ Actually, I have no idea what agreement the athletes and the IOC have made with each other. Whatever it is, they should all abide with that agreement. Personally, I think celebrating is fine - but a contract with a group or others is a duty). ... 21. I would think you mix cause with recovery effects. 12 step programs tend to be popular and bias toward religiosity. Seems organized religion has 1 of 2 players in the game: 1 - give em credit view - they really want to help people, so they are front line to those with problems needing help 2 - cynic view - those needing help are, as a result of their addiction, more prone to brainwashing I suspect both are true, but the 1st predominant ... 25. those are so much fun!! both as the coach and the coached - the best part is you can see all the details with the coach right there - how they hold their arms and hips and what they do with legs/shoulders/chin/hips, etc. My best session on one of these was a mantis camp with Lise Aune coaching - she is FANTASTIC - her body type combined with her perfect technique is crystal clean, you can't help but learn when you mimic her - that and the smiles I can't wait for our tunnelcamp next month - I'm teaching 3 newbies basic mantis camp over 2 days, then we have 2 days of team training - ...
