you asked for a position, now you are changing the argument? C'mon - lay out the scenarios if you want an opinion as for framing a law? I'm not in congress ... Incorrect. nonsense - you preach that the money is the government's and none of our business how it's used until we vote the next time The fact that some funds are directed specifically to certain areas just implies that they are very high on the priority list. (But we really know, that this is just rationalization to take more money from target areas that aren't really that important) If the gov passes a bill to disassemble SS and spend that money elsewhere, then your philosophy says that's fine. (they just updated their spending priority list). We can vote later if the specifics displease us. Agree, it's all moot for this specific scenario though for the same reason. Now, if they could make the money disintegrate if spent elsewhere - then I'll take your side. ... this is hilarious - Kallend asked a non-sequitor he is fond of I provided one in response Lucky was trending off on his little tangents, so I left before he started getting insulting like he always does. Fortunately, Lucky, in normal fashion, avoids any pretense of even trying to understand any other viewpoint and is pigeon holing me into one of his neat little prejudiced buckets - even while I'm out - and even though he's wrong on his assessment of my views. This is much more fun than actually trying to participate. John - if you really want an answer about ex-cons owning weapons, then you need to provide some examples to answer each one to find that line. Here's a couple end points to build examples between. 1 - Man serves his time for a crime he didn't commit. He gets a job and is living a decent life - He "should" be able to get his 2nd amendment rights back 2 - Mass murderer gets out on a technicality and starts hanging around with his friends and has made numerous death threats to tons of people and has already, since out, lost his temper and attacked a handful of people - seems he 'shouldn't' get his 2nd amendment rights back now, let the bickering over the fine gray line in the mix be drawn and debated over while the whole issue of those that want to completely disarm their neighbors can be ignored Edit: even if photoshopped, I find both signs to be pretty amusing ... oops - you went from decently discussing to your -less than courteous- mode and I won't continue to support that here If you like, you can claim a win if that helps I'm out - really need to work out blue skies, maybe next time we'll get a few posts farther along ... absolutely not - hopefully no more than you are characterizing all lifers as equivalent to those that would force a rape victim to die of pregnancy complications. I thought we were talking about the far nuts on these topics. You can't have it one way and then switch to try and extrapolate a straw man. (you can, but it's a crappy technique that's abused here alread) I'm pro choice - but my issue is there are a lot real idiots out there making really bad choices - but we still have to ensure rights to all citizens - and that includes idiots Edit: wasn't this a 2nd amendment thread? ... Why? - "where do you draw the fine line" debates are tedious and non-productive. This is about general freedoms in the major sense, not pissy details. (Answer the question? Inmates shouldn't be armed.) Your turn - you belief in a 40-60% tax bracket - So, to answer an annoying repetitive question equivalent to John's, did you overpay to 40-60% this year? {{cloudy weekend days suck, jumping is more fun than killing time here - Gotta go workout, I'll check in later}} ... So, if those "other" liberal anti-gunners get their way and criminalize all guns in the nation and get all guns taken from law abiding citizens (and John's convicts too apparently) - then would you agree that they would be complicit in the mass crime wave that (in some theories) follow? It's pretty much the same thing as a sign like this. Though if the neighbor gets his way, it's equivalent to putting that sign in every yard. Also, though you label him a 'conservative', how do you know the sign owner isn't a pro-gun liberal like yourself? (one who is passionate about his political beliefs and isn't scared to make very direct notice to the fact). ... "live and let live liberal" anti-gunner chooses not to own guns but lets other decide for themselves "other liberal" anti-gunner chooses not to own guns and pushes for legislation for others not to own guns either glad you are the first kind you can label that "liberal" if you like, but a lot of others here that also label themselves 'liberal' are the second kind that's what you get with labels..... a more accurate label, instead of lib vs cons - would be pro or anti "right to bear arms" ... But there still needs to be some consequence. "I told you not to play in the street. You're grounded." vs. "I told you not to play in the street. Don't do it again." over and over... Well, Billvon's example is interesting and exactly what the current admin is doing "IT'S A FREAKIN' EMERGENCY, HURRY!,,,HURRY! VOTE FOR THE BILL NOW BEFORE DISASTER HAPPENS. YOU HAVE NO TIME TO READ IT, UNDERSTAND IT, OR EXPLAIN IT TO THE CITIZENS....just vote for it now" ... we've been down this before - establish a fleet of roving refrigerator collection trucks - use the corpses to feed the living at the equivalent price of cat food - use the money to fund the fleet two problems solved - street cleanup, and starvation of the elderly That's quite A Modest Proposal. titling noted and appreciated though I believe Ross Perot has been proposing similar concepts for some time, so it's not really my idea ... And, we don't need to further bloat the bank accounts of those greedy fat cats at General Mills and Kellogg. The cereal industry needs to be under gov control asap - it's an emergency. "they need more because they work hard" that's a pretty stock and meaningless comment what could they make in another job with the same entry requirements? that's the basis it's subjective, not a sound bite what someone 'deserves' is about their utility. not about our emotional response edit: I recognize this isn't a very popular statement, but I can make the same argument (they work hard and 'deserve' more) for teachers, lab workers, my employees, firement, police, roofers, etc etc etc etc etc ad nauseum. so that's not really a workable argument unless you take a very narrow focus ... that's just great - 1 - you don't have as much to save for retirement, so it's more likely you do mess it up 2 - But that's ok, because when you are eating cat food, at least you can blame the government - hey, they messed up their part too, but at least it wasn't your fault your philosophy isn't about a 'safety net', it's about having a ready made scapegoat ... clarification and congress didn't do it for the people, they did it to cater to specific voter demographics and to make PR points that's the problem with Congress being in charge of huge industries - they don't do things for the health of the country - they do things based on popularity and simple (thus normally incorrect) opinions based, not of fact, but on popularity (and only what's popular with the very simpleminded loud mouth crowd, not even most of the people) They see one wheel with a broken hub, but the other wheel gets maintenance instead because it works fine, but the village grease salesmen is screaming it's squeaking ...
