  1. Speaking of weather... They're having a humdinger of a dust-up in NSW / SE QLD. Have a look at http://www.abc.net.au/news/2002/10/item20021023131925_1.htm Ooroo Mark F...
  2. Nah. Your confused, it's the Kiwis that worry the sheep. Here's a Kiwi joke for ya...
  3. Well by the time we got there, took part and got back the pubs would be shut. It's a helluva commute from here...
  4. 13ft isn't a big one by any means. They grow to over 6m ( ~20ft ) and are bloody dangerous - VERY aggressive. Thankfully they are only found up north. Their local nic-name is "saltie" but that doesn't mean that they'll only be found in salt water - they've been found around 300km inland. They're also a protected species. The saltie was walking the earth at the same time as the rest of the dinosaurs and is regarded as one of the most succesful species ever. I'm with you where slipping down the food chain is concerned. I live in Vic. where we only have 7 of the worlds 10 most deadly venemous snakes...
  5. Minus 15 is a bit over the top. Or a bit under , depending yoyr point of view. At least in Hedland if there's a westerly blowing it's coming across the water. I lived up near Tibooburra (cnr. NSW, Qld, SA) for a while. 45C days were the norm in summer with maybe 25 to 30C night minimums. It doesn't matter which way the wind blows. It's always a hot wind...Winter's a lot different. Maybe mid 20's during the day and on a clear night it'd go down to about -5C or so. Any wind is always cold. Not as cold as Finland though. That sounds downright chilly. Ooroo Mark F...
  6. It surely does... A few members of a tour group went swimming in a billabong up in Kakadu Nat. Park yesterday despite the croc. warning signs. One of 'em got eaten of course. Story at http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2002/10/23/1034561533720.html Ooroo Mark F...
  7. Fosters...You put FOSTERS in there. Fosters, the swill of the south. What's wrong with Coopers or Cascade or Vic Bitter or Melbourne Bitter or even, dread the thought Tooheys ? Fosters...Good grief... Ooroo Mark F...
  8. It hasn't got HOT up there yet - it's still _only_ spring. The signs are that we're set for a bloody hot summer. If you want sumemr HEAT Marble Bar is the place to go. It's about 150 of so km inland from Hedland. I've been there a couple of times. You just drink beer and sleep.
  9. Think about the people in Port Hedland in West Aus. yesterday. 46.7C only about 35C today though. Further north in Fitzroy Crossing it was about 44C at 2.00pm... They'd probably like it a bit cooler. -15C would probably be just a touch too cool though.
  10. That's it, the managment marathon is OVER.
  11. We've had a lot of rain days but stuff all actual rain. About a third the average I hear. Must have a look at www.bom.gov.au there's some rainfall maps there. Thompsons dam is still only at around 54% capacity and Silvan is bloody near empty... What we really need is a solid Vic / NSW / SE Qld / SA downpour for about 3 weeks... Ooroo Mark F...
  12. I probably won't you know. It's going to be an all day effort and I'll be knackered by the time I get home. More bloody soggy sandwiches for lunch with bloody DECAF coffee for morning and arvo tea. WTF is it with DECAF anyway. May as well drink hot water. Don't these people know that caffeine is the most important element of the "C" food group[1]. At least I don't have to go to Sydney for the day. That's Thursday.. Oh well the sandwich is done (it was good) so I'm off....
  13. Even HH 'imself has showed up... Seeing as I've run out rum AND beer and it's midnight 40 or so AND I have to go to part 2 of the managment meeting in about 7 hours ( bloody suit and tie affair AGAIN ) I'm gonna hit the pit methinks... Might just have a sandwich before that though.... Hmmm cold roast beef and mustard. Yep that'll do just fine.
  14. One of our OWN Prime Ministers (Paul Keating) referred to Oz as the arse end of the world. Today bits of the north western arse end of the world got up to 47degC...Whew. One of the locals said on the radio "...if there's any shade then sure as shit I'm in it..."
  15. Yeah I know. If only I'd kept jumping after I first started in '76. If I had I'd probably have an E or an F by now and still be immune to AAD disease. As it is I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll never jump without some battery powered, man-made electro mechanical device allegedly looking after my welfare. When I used to work in the explosives industry that category of thing was considered to be almost certainly lethal... NEVER take a battery powered gas tester into a bunker. Take a balloon and a pump and test the gas where there isn't as much bangy stuff...
  16. You either. I couldn't win a kick in a cattle stampede.. Woohooo 5.00pm...BEER O'CLOCK....
  17. Meetings.. Did that most of the day. Suit and tie stuff too...I HATE THAT. Hmmm 4.10pm...getting dreadfully close to beer o'clock
  18. Well its 3.00pm Tuesday here in Victoria in Oz. so good arvo.
  19. ' Ooo oooo *hops up and down* is that the cheese in that blue box? oh man I LOVE that stuff, but can't get it here That's the stuff. Goes great with Vegemite in a sandwich too. If you can't get it there you'll just have to emmigrate.
  20. Well I dunno about Marmite.... But if you reckon Vegemite on bread doesn't taste good there must've been something dreadfully wrong with the bread.... Now for the Philistines among you a good hamburger with the lot consists of... 1 large meat pattie ( about the size of 2 or 3 Maccas patties) fried onion. 1 rasher of bacon, fried. 1 fried egg with yolk broken so it doesn't run down yer shirt. 1 fried pineapple ring. Golden Circle brand - no other is acceptable. When the pattie is nearly cooked a slice of Kraft Cheddar is put on it to melt. lettuce Tomato Beetroot. One LARGE slice. Small slices are NOT acceptable. Other salad stuff - it depends on the take-away place. Tomato sauce. Heinze, Rosella or White Crow are OK. Rosella is best. NO PICKLES NO MAYO All in a bun which MUST be toasted and buttered. A good hamburger is a pretty damn good meal. Ooroo Mark F...
  21. Hmmmmmm I know what peanut butter is but I'm having trouble working out how deranged the mind that wants it on a croissant would have to be..
  22. As you bloody well should have been.
  23. It can't interfere with my jumping - at least not until January anyway when I make my grand comeback after a 3 year hiatus due to a bastard mosquito borne disease called Ross River Virus Disease... As far as fires and rain goes... For the last 5 or 6 years we've had one Erikson Aircrane in Victoria for the bushfire season. Last year we got two more for NSW when that state went up like a can of petrol. This year we're getting four of 'em - they way things are they'll be needed too. We've already had a few BIG fires in northern NSW. Keeping the Oz content up... Ooroo Mark F...
  24. We can have LOTS of weather here. If you like boring, consistant weather then Melbourne is certainly not the place. If variety is your preference then this is THE place to be. Some people say that we can have four seasons in a day but that's just crap. We've had up to EIGHT in a morning. According to the meteorologists the configuration of the bays (Port Philip and Westernport) and the mountain ranges (such as they are in this country) causes all sorts of forecasting difficulties. Especially in spring, which is what it is now...
  25. Should get me a video camera some day... I live under the base of both Melbourne and Essendon airports when there's a north wind blowing. Today it was BLOWING big time. Gusting 70kts. Just had to turn on the scanner and listen to Melbourne and Essendon approaches. I've never heard so many missed approaches. Bloody funny watching 747s crabbing across the sky...
