Well Chile has given you the reason why it's happening. Basically what happens is that after all the "tweaking and peaking" usually ends up with the transmitter output being "dirty". It's putting stuff out on frequencies other than the one desired. Then that whole mess goes into an allegedly linear amp which has probably been "t & P'd" to the point of distortion and more rubbish. If you feed that lot into the typical nearly-resonant mobile antenna and you get even MORE dirt accross a great deal more spectrum than desired. It's this crap that you're hearing. The power of the transmitter is largely irrelevant - the products of non-linearity are the problem. I used to live next door to an Amateur Radio operator who regularly ran the full legal limit. I never heard anything from his station in my radio. I heard 27MHz CB splatter from the nearby freeway constantly. If you're getting the feed through just about everything - except maybe the lawnmower - you'd be pretty safe to assume that it's getting in through the power lines. You can take a couple of approaches here. If you call the electricity company and carefully explain what's happening they _may_ send someone out to have a look. That someone will probably suggest all sorts of pretty pricey things to get rid of the interference most of which will work. You could _try_ telling them that all they need to do is to bypass any RF to ground BEFORE the electricity meter. They may or may not listen but, HEY, it's worth a try...:-) The other option is to find a nearby HAM and offer to exchange a few beers for an opinion. ( PM or e-mail me with a location and I'll try and tee something up - I talk to US HAMS pretty regularly given goodish conditions...:-) ) The nearby HAM will be interested for two reasons. (S)he'll be shit scared that its him / her that's in danger of blowing up final output stages or getting a complaint from the FCC - regulatory authorities the world over a SAVAGE on HAMS stepping a little bit outside the regs...:-) The second reason is that they may well be having the same trouble and having another setup to examin can often reveal the "One True Way" of eliminating the interference...:-) Hopefully helpfull..... My reply would have been a lot more terse. Something along the lines of "if you want him to stop, you tell him". Most likely I would have told 'em to take their emotional blackmail and stuff it in a very dak place and to get the fuck out of my sight. I just cannot abide that sort of thing...:-) Beware though, being as blunt as I tend to be gets you into a bit of trouble. No-one's ever left guessing what I meant though...

But you left out the question of utmost importance. Are you a folder or a scruncher ? Ooroo Mark F...

A mate of mine is in the same boat. I can't say that the idea of coke on cornflakes does anything for me though. Allegedly coke on rice bubbles tastes like shit. Whatever..

By Oz. standards not much to write home about. Our behaviour towards our own indigineous people makes us a bunch of total arseholes. We're damn good, even great, at hiding it though. Hell even the majority of the Oz population don't know it goes on. I'm refering to outback Oz - places like Wilcannia and Wiluna or Kalgoorlie-Boulder or Halls Creek, the places that are pretty much off the tourist route. Let me tell you two stories from two solo bicycle trips through bits of the outback. Quite recent - only a few years ago. Wilcannia '99. For a few days before I got there I was being warned by the Grey Nomads (retirees with a four wheel drive and a fucking huge caravan. oh, and of course, grey hair) that Wilcannia should be steered well clear of - too many "abos". Being on a bike I had no choice.

Or how about Nicole, the Gallic Hotty, rolling about in oil... Stop it, you'll go blind I tell ya..... Of course we didn't get the Nicole, the Gallic Hottie, ad here that I know of and we'll probably not get this one either. Ooroo Mark F...

I s'pose this has been posted a thousand times but because I'm blind in one eye and cant see with the other I missed it. Just in case it wasn't already posted.... http://home.attbi.com/~bernhard36/honda-ad.html It's pretty damn neat. Here's a bit of a blurb. I couldn't be stuffed re-formatting it.... Ooroo Mark F...

Well I guess if you're hurtling towards a planet in an aircraft that's in the process of breaking up then fucking your brains out until the inevitable collision with the aforementioned planet would be, if not pleasant, at the very least, distracting...

I have a laugh whenever I see that doc. It almost manages to conceal the obvious. If you leave your e-mail address laying around in plain text for everyone and their pet elephant to read you're gonna get spam. End of story...

But what about Orson Wells Oct 1938 broadcast.... Surely that'd HAVE to be the best hoax of all time. I know it wasn't on All Fools Day but it was a pretty damn fine hoax...

MEGA sigh.. Another person who just doesn't get it. Maybe it's just a problem in your part of the world. In Melbourne, Oz. we've been dealing with telepathic indicators for years. It's easy to spot cars with telepathic indicators - they turn in all sorts of crazy directions with no visible warning. Get with the programme and get yourself up to date. Ooroo Mark F...

What's the other one, Bill ? I know that you've got a Honda and I've got a Prius on order but I hadn't heard of a third option. If it's available here I'd really like to take a look at it before the delivery of the Prius in a week or so... The two weeks I had a Prius demo I used around 20 litres of standard unleaded. In the normal family sedan (Commodore Executive pretty economical V6) I get through around 70 litres a fortnight. Seems like a good deal to me...

Yeah dammit. This three month project was supposed to finish in December. That's Dec. 2001. Then it got extended for 12 months and I had it all figured out that I'd make my grand return to jumping in Jan. this year. It would've worked out well too, my return to jumping would've happened on my 50th birthday making a pretty neat b'day pressie to myself...

Well we need to sell our wheat somewhere. The US keeps up with its farm subsidies and persists in selling the subsidised wheat at dumping prices in our market. Same with lamb. Ooroo Mark F...

The UN has done heaps. So far a raft of resolutions against Iraq have been passed and the UN has sanctioned the use of some degree of force to enforce them. So far the UN has, probably more by accident than by design, managed to stop the more trigger happy states (Aust. attached - we aren't a member of the SC). So far the US is the worlds super power but what if you look at the situation from another point of view. Imagine for a moment that "Communist Mythonia" was in the position that the US in now and that ths US had no means of standing up to 'em. I dunno what the attitude in the US would be, but in Aust. Communist Mythonia would be seen as a sort of ultimate bad guy that must be stopped - somehow - probably unintentionally inviting Communist Mythonia to enact "serious consequences". What I'm saying here is that all sides of the issue should be studied. With that will come the realisation the what the US considers to be "right" may well be considered to be "evil" when looked at from another viewpoint. Equally, what could be considered "evil" by the US may well be considered "right" from another viewpoint. The UN only seems to be impotent because it's doing its job. ie. Trying to prevent armed conflict. The members of the Security Council failed to act when UNSCOMM and IAEA were thrown out of Iraq is where the current mess stems from - with Saddam Husseins help of course. At the time of the inspectors being thrown out any member state could have scratched out a short, simple draft resolution enabling the membership to go and clean Iraq out. Just about everyone on the planet would have supported it and the whole mess wouldn't be here. My concern is that if the US goes into Iraq now without operating under some sort of UN umbrella the UN will be seen as irrelevant and that any state can just go and do what it wishes. Some will, at terrible cost. Ooroo Mark F...

Apparently it does.. Hmmm in Resolution 1441 (2002) I see references to "Member States" and "the Council" but I see no reference to the US. I also see reference to "serious consequences" but nothing authorizing the US to be "judge, jury and executioner" (Kallend). I suggest you have a read of the resolution. It can be found at http://ods-dds-ny.un.org/doc/UNDOC/GEN/N02/682/26/PDF/N0268226.pdf?OpenElement Ooroo Mark F...

And if you somehow, by some miracle or another, escape from him you'd better stay alert 'cause that means I'll be after you. When I catch you I'll force feed you Fosters (swill of the south) with peanut butter and Vegemite sandwiches. With the Vegemite spread thickly. Then I'll hand you over to PhillyKev..
