Good news for EV customers, bad for Fear Mongers

And inaccurate. It wasn't a picture of Trayvon. It was a target with a hoodie, skittles, and a can of tea. It was faceless. So it wasn't a picture of the "victim", it was a picture referencing that FL situation. And FYI, it was a "Don't Shoot" target. In a effort to improve training and move away from the old 'stand in a line and fire on command' range practice, instructors use shoot/don't-shoot targets. Some are armed, others are not. It allows officers to practice evaluating a target before during and after shooting. So this target that referenced Trayvon without resembling him was to teach officers NOT to shoot. Shouldn't that make the whiny pseudo-offended liberals happy? ETA: https://www.google.com/search?q=trayvon+martin+target&client=safari&hl=en&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=ZGVrUefPJ5OI9gSLroAI&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=320&bih=416 These distasteful things were offered for sale a while back. I'd think the former LEO used this, but a few articles said he told other officers he made the targets. 2nd ETA: USA TODAY Article Officer: Trayvon Martin target a 'no-shoot training aid' Thanks for the clarification. With that in mind, I'd say both sets of targets show practical value. Not very tasteful either way, but practical... You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. It means wind shear, which along with land and cold water, are enemies of hurricanes. Wind shear DOES aid in formation and lifetime of thunderstorms. But not hurricanes. Wind shear kills them quite effectively because it disrupts circulation. So more air turbulence means fewer and less powerful hurricanes. It's yet another example of the ever-expanding effects of global warming. It's so amazing that it can form more, more powerful and more destreuctive hurricanes even while causing processes that prevent and destroy hurricanes. Ah. my bad. I took 'jacks up hurricanes' to mean increase them. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

Found that one a week or so back. I am yet to get tired of it, and I don't see it happening anytime soon... You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

I don't feel that way about your position. I consider that the every day gun control advocate do have good intentions. The comments was that the actions those advocates are pushing have consequences that the advocates either haven't thought through, or are actively ignoring just to get 'something' done. Pointing out possible consequences is not a character attack, and responding to it in an emotional manner doesn't help bring clarity to each other. Sorry, my bad I guess. Once someone makes the leap that gun control = Nazi/socialist/Hitler, I stop taking them seriously. I agree that there are a whole lot of legislators whose hearts are in the right places with regard to the issue, but who haven't done the slightest bit of research about what would be most effective. Hell I know more about firearms than some of them, so your point about some of them just 'wanting to get something done' is sadly not moot. ETA: I do get frustrated however, with those on the other side of the aisle who look at any proposed measure and immediately label it a non starter since it won't fix 100% of the problem. Also, my more cynical mind wonders if advocates are deliberately going for much more over-reaching solutions knowing that they're going to get the shit hacked out of them anyway to get through congress. If they put out something practical and balanced at the outset, what the hell's going to be left of it by the time it makes it into law? I would respectfully disagree that the previous poster was 'pointing out possible consequences', he was trotting out a well worn line that misses the big picture. If your government really was looking to transition to a dictatorship, I'd be less concerned about the threat of confiscation and much, much more concerned about the ramping up of the domestic drone program. That shit is potentially terrifying... You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

Yes. Absolutely. You are totally about to be living under the modern equivalent of the fascist Nazi regime. That's exactly what this is about. No one could possibly want less people to die so easily. No sir. Not wanting people to die so much is only ever a smokescreen for world domination. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

Not all of the left. I'm not interested in banning "pools", it's a pointless endeavour. I'm in favour of mandatory "swimming" lessons as part of "pool" ownership... You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

Military Intelligence? US Army & The Rape Video Game (It's fun!)

Depends if it works or not. I reckon the concept alone is pretty fucking tasteless, but if it's having an impact, hey why not? You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly. -
How big is the estate? If it's sizable $140k a year may be in the ballpark. I'm not being confrontational, just asking. 28 acres, according to the article. @Kennedy - that was the point of the sequester, hurt everyone. Shitty pointless cuts to departments left right and centre. That was supposedly meant to spur congress to reach a decent compromise instead so the shitty stuff didn't have to happen. The GOP, I feel, has been a ridiculous and petty obstructionist mob and refused to come to the table. Repeatedly. Ergo, sequester. It was avoidable, but they're all too busy playing political chess and making sure they've got a job next year rather than actually doing... I don't know... their jobs? I'll add, your congress is broken on both sides of the aisle. I think the GOP are worse, currently, but they all need to fucking grow up. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

I can understand advertising cash, and even just general donations with both organisations. The concept being put forward that I was curious about was whether there was a direct link outside of that - you buy a canopy, manufacturer gives $x to USPA, you buy a gun, manufacturer gives $x to the NRA. I actually had a poke around the NRA website for extra info. I'll be honest, I could only stomach a couple of their "news" pieces - that was some of the most blatant, over the top propaganda I've seen in my life. Good production values though, I'll give them that. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

I don't know. Does the USPA get kickbacks from canopy manufacturers every time they sell a canopy they've promoted? (I'm genuinely curious, I have no idea if they do or not) You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

Makes it a problem though. Not saying it's one that needs to be addressed by banning etc... but a problem to be addressed nonetheless. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly. -
Agreed. My point was that while there surely is a broad range of volunteers of the calibre you mention, there's going to be a hell of a lot of people putting their hand up who aren't desirable. And some of them are already getting picked for the team anyway. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

I'll confess I hadn't actually watched the video til now, just the reactions. Fuck. Me. She advocates everyone within a community - this could just be your neighbourhood - taking responsibility for each other. You see someone else being a blatantly shitty parent? Call them out on it. Don't bury your head in the sand. How the fuck people made the jump to "the marxist commie kenyan gubbmint wants to steal your children for their NWO slave camps" is fucking beyond me... Let's say I have a friend who's started a wedding photography business. A colleague later mentions to me they're looking for just such a person. I talk up my mate massively, tell them how awesome and wonderful he is at photography, how happy I've seen his other clients etc etc, and they go and buy a package from him. Next time I see him he buys me a beer, and says if I get him more bookings there'll be more beer to come. I like beer. It is now in my best beer drinking interest to "sell" my friends services to prospective customers whenever I get the chance. It really isn't that hard to see what he was getting it, is it? Kansas Legislature Passes Sweeping Abortion Bill
mistercwood replied to Darius11's topic in Speakers Corner
You'll need to be more specific, I'm not quite following you. Are you talking about the mother and physician being able to abort a couple of weeks before the baby is due? That would be post-viability, and yeah, I'd probably call it murder, or an equivalent (I'm not a lawyer, obviously). Last I checked pretty much anywhere that allows abortions still has limits on when it can be done. Until the point of viability though, I'd argue the fetus is still a part of the mother, making it still her choice. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of the idea of "convenience" abortions. Someone keeps getting knocked up and aborting because they're too lazy and irresponsible to use any form of contraception? That's pretty shit. What I see happening in the states however, is law after law being passed or attempted that want to remove easy access to contraception that could prevent the need for an abortion on the first place. Conservatives crying out for the defunding of Planned Parenthood when the overwhelming majority of the services they provide are about family planning, not abortion, services designed to make sure that when you get pregnant it's because you wanted to. Hell, there's a teacher being reprimanded for calling a vagina a vagina. In biology class. That's the definition of fucking ridiculous. Study after study has shown that countries with the earliest and frankest sex education have the lowest rates of teen pregnancy - an unwanted pregnancy usually that not uncommonly ends in an abortion. I respect the intentions of most pro-life supporters. I get saddened by the inability of many of them to see that their energies would be better spent trying to prevent the issue they see as a problem from being necessary in the first place. PS Anybody trying to offer me abstinence-only as a viable option IMO isn't living in reality, so don't bother... You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. So is choice. Adoption is one of those available, granted. There are others. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly. -
That's pretty messed up stuff, I'll agree. The flipside of that - and I'm purely playing devil's advocate here - is there does seem to be an increasing trend of parents who expect the schools to teach their children a whole lot of shit they should have been taught at home long before hand. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

Nope, it's a promo. Many on the extreme left think this way. Remember "you didn't build that"? How about "It takes a village"? I remember "you didn't build that" - the whole speech. The fact that the article rehashed a tired and hugely out of context meme removed all credibility for me. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Marijuana legalization wins majority support in nationwide poll
mistercwood replied to OHCHUTE's topic in Speakers Corner
Marijuana is bad. If you smoke marijuana, your babies will be born naked. Everyone who smokes marijuana will die. Eventually. I prefer to think of marijuana as a mistress whom you later find out is a mister and no amount of salt baths will wash away the shame. Ah well that's where you're going wrong, should've gone with bath salts instead and then you'll forget the whole thing!
