  1. Those are great, I am assisting in a FJC tomorrow and will take them along Much better than the images we currently show students
  2. Nice to see a full face helmet that passed safety certification testing
  3. First question is what is she jumping from, plane heli etc? This is more of a BASE jumping question but 300ft is probably doable in terms of unzipping the wingsuit and then landing As you have already thought the winds and spray generated by the waterfall are probably the biggest hazard. These could cause the parachute to collapse or be tossed around violently Landing in water in a wingsuit is not something you want to do either. It is going to fill up with water and prevent you from swimming. Similarly you do not want to get tangled in the parachute. Probably doable if the boat is already in the landing area. You could even land on the boat if it is large enough
  4. I was at an xmas boogie that ran for 2 weeks in a popular holiday town. The organisers had a table at the local mall with 2 tvs playing mostly tandem vids and a few fun jumps and someone giving out pamphlets Pretty sure that won them a fair bit of business as there were loads of tandems coming through to the dz They also did a demo into a neighbouring town airfield that was having an airshow and got people to hand out info. Later that day the tandems started rolling in Just some ideas. These were pretty effective at hooking people who were there at the time looking for things to do on holiday
  5. Would you mind clarifying this, not all of us have the luxury of having a tunnel closer than a 6 hour flight away Do you mean you would not want to coach a student after getting their licence or do you mean you would not want to start AFF with them? I realise the tunnel is a great tool and I am planning a trip to one next year but it is hardly necessary for progression. I would guess most experienced skydivers did not learn in tunnel
  6. We had a 188 loaded at 1:1 fire on student cypress, now changed to expert model We have our rental vigils set to student only on everything larger than 235. Modes do not get changed. Expert cypresses on anything smaller
  7. Our DZO gets out his powered paraglider and goes cruising over the sugar cane fields if the pilot cannot spot it on the decent after one or two loads Easiest is for someone to get a sight line on it and use that to narrow down the area This works fine at a small cesna DZ but if you had a cut away on a long spot it is going to be difficult
  8. The only plane I have jumped that had any restraints was a military CASA and even then most people chose not to use them, I was guilty of doing this too after a jump or two as the thing had the feeling of a bus with everyone walking around inside We do not have this regulation in SA and hence no jump planes have seat belts. It is a good idea though. At least 2 older members of my club survived a crash in a 182 more by luck than anything else. The other 3 people in the plane were not so lucky. Those are not the sorts of odd I like. If the jump plane had a seat belt I would wear it. I always wear a seat belt in a motor vehicle so this is no different
  9. From their FB page, 7 Nov 2014 Try the US contact details below, hopefully you come right
  10. Awesome, Congrats We await footage of the test jump now
  11. My CT friends are recommending Timothy Hutchings Give him a call and hopeful he can help you out +27 (0)84 366 1365
  12. If the "backpack" thing is there reasoning the organisers should propose a x-ray machine like at an airport security check and check that no one is hiding and explosives/drugs/beer in their rig This sort of thing just makes me sad though
  13. I saw one of the PAC test pilots perform a barrel roll at an airshow last year This was by one of the most experienced pilots on the aircraft without any passengers on board. It had been performed a many times as practice apparently well away from people End result was very impressive at the airshow but no way I would have wanted to be an unsuspecting passenger in that plane, rig or no rig
  14. What was the winner of the Tracking category wearing, he was 50% better than the others
  15. I have had a fair mix in my limited time in the sport We don't have big planes like an otter in regular operation for Skydiving in SA C182 C206 Atlas Angel (Bit like a porter - This thing with a turbine fitted >) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aermacchi_AL-60 Porter Pac 750 Casa 235 Bell Jet Ranger
  16. FYI: P4 is apparently undergoing testing at the moment but it will probably be 6 months till anyone can actually have one to sell there P3 at a reduced price Suggest you ask this question in the wingsuit forum
  17. My friend did almost the exact same thing in Feb He was only back jumping in August and getting strength back into the ankle was his major challenge. Did a fair amount of cycling then jogging/running to get the strength back. By all accounts it takes long time for the pain to go away
  18. I have a 2005 pilot 168 (version 05 I think) that has the honeycomb rip stop which I assume is ZPX because I have not seen it anywhere else Contact aerodyne
  19. I do not see the point in using this for a main pilot chute as the small percentage difference in opening altitude is not doing to mean much For a reserve pilot chute though I see more potential. More drag for the same size seems like a good idea. Problem though is that if the added bulk is substantial then why not just have a larger regular reserve pilot chute. Maybe worth it on a tandem drogue? Those can bounce around a bit Bottom line is that main advantage of the Snatch is that it minimizes oscillation which I think is not that important in skydiving.
  20. Good luck and let me know if you find any as I am interested too ;) I think CFD is something that has potential to improve current generation wingsuits and parachutes but I suspect that the high performance designs like Petra/Peregrine already make use of it I found a research paper a while ago on a tonysuit x-bird CFD simulation but it left a lot to be designed especially in the simplifications to the geometry.
  21. Height wise a large (1.80m), weight wise a medium (73kg)
  22. My 2c on how I think this works based on the attached screen shots The RSL lanyard seems to have the usual ring on the end for the reserve ripcord to route through. there is also the addition of a white "snare" (like a trap...) This is probably loose normally allowing the reserve bridle to pull free if the ripcord if the reserve pilot chute does the extraction. If the main is cutaway the snare is pulled tight around the reserve bridle which most likely has a stiffener in the area the snare wraps around it. If I am correct in this it will be interesting how complex or simple they make the bridle and snare routing
  23. CRW has been dead for a few years at my club but two old CRW dogs have recently got back into jumping and are looking to get things active again I am not in the position to get a second canopy and our club only has 9 cell mains in the rental gear. I did some proximity flying with the one jumper yesterday getting tips on matching speed and levels and really enjoyed it. Both of the experienced jumps say they are happy to do CRW on a 9 cell like the pilot which is what I currently jump but I am wondering what the wider community thought. I am looking to try CRW for the challenge of something new, to learn to fly my canopy better and to have fun. Short version: Bad idea to do CRW on a pilot or just do it and don't fuck up too bad
  24. thanks for posting that, I was just getting drop downs and struggling to find the pages for each suit
  25. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxCLmNOEb7A I am sure Brian Germain mentions doing this and getting it wrong in his book.
