  1. When the Bill of Rights was written, the founding fathers were scared of a tyranical government having too much power and taking away freedoms of the people, again. So, they spelled out certain rights, speech, religion, press... and that included the right to bear arms. A right doesn't do much good without a means to protect it by defending oneself from both criminals and the government (look to Germany in the 30's stripping guns first and then all of those rights). I bet here in the U.S. most people feel safer if a police officer is around. Is the uniform a deterrent? Because they have a gun? Because they spent some time in police academy learning to handle a gun? I know several people who have more firearms training and shoot far better than an average cop. Why should you feel unsafe if they are around? If they carry a gun? Or anyone else for that matter who done nothing to suggest that they might commit a crime, let alone one with a gun? I'm confused to about what they purpose of gun control. Are we trying to protect kids from accidental death or adults from themselves? There's nothing that says that you have to own a gun, but there are plenty of laws requiring you to be responsible if you do. That includes keeping them away from young children. There is a program, rejected by many schools that teaches children what to do if they find a gun: "STOP! Don't touch. Leave the area. Tell an Adult." That can't be taught because it's too controversial: the NRA created it. Did you know that most cops are NRA members? I guess since no one is responsible for anything anymore, no one could possibly be responsible enough to bear arms; so, big brother must take them away. -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. 4. Quote How much do you weigh? What are planning on flying right now? About 250 out the door. I plan to rent a rig until I'm ready for a canopy that will fit in a container about the size of a J-5 (ZP230 is tight), buy a rig with a used canopy for 100+ jumps and downsize with the same container to something like a Sabre2 210 (or 190 if I lose 25 lbs) for a few hundred. It's possible I could fly a Stiletto 190 some day, but I'm not sure it's worth sitting it in the closet for a while (loading it at 1.3 or less) instead of putting the money toward a main & Cypress. Thanks for your help. jib -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. Larry Flynt
  5. I have 25 jumps and am looking around for my first rig. I found two that seem to be about what I'm looking for, but not quite. The better deal seems to be an Odyssey J-5 with Raven II and a Stiletto 190 with a few hundred jumps. I've no plans to fly a Stiletto anytime soon; so, I'd want to get rid of it. Anyway, would you buy a rig planing to get try to get rid of the 190? What would the Stiletto be conservatively be worth assuming less than 200 jumps and good lines (best case)? 7. I paid as I went, but I could have saved about $100 on the ISP 20 level course (AFF+solos & coached jumps). In that case, they credit your account for the cost of all 20 levels (about $100 more than you paid) and deduct the actual jumps as you go, but it's not refundable. Repeated levels are additional.

  11. There was a husband and wife this summer... On the ground, the husband joking in a condescending way, said, "what if she chickens out up there?" He got in the door and chickened out. She jumped and he got in the door again... and rode the plane down with his tail between his legs. -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. Animals? I don't agree with them breaking the law ("them" being prisoners in general), but they are not animals. Sorry to shed some light here, but they are human beings just like the rest of us. What prisons have HBO? Did you know that they don't even get stuff like aspirin if they have their teeth pulled or shit like that? It damn near takes an act of congress to do that. how about the luxuries of AC in a 110 degree building? Taj Mahal it's not. How about proper medical treatment? nope. A majority of the people in jail now are not the child molesters and fucking psychopaths that you see on tv. IMHO, they (child molesters, etc) should be taken out of the gene pool asap...but again, that's my opinion. But most are in for drug related charges or something along those lines. Instead of offering some DRUG REHAB or psychological counseling to REHABILITATE the prisoners, they just stick them all in a pile and let them sort each other out and if they're lucky, they won't get the shit beat out of them while in lock-up (solitary). I'm not saying everyone can be rehabilitated, but everyone can make mistakes and the system isn't exactly set up to help them break the cycle. Only some states offer programs such as NA or AA. You'd think that would be a pretty common thing (rehabilitation efforts, that is), but it's not. From what i understand, AZ has a Narc-anon chapter IN the prision itself which has an incredible success rate. Why can't these be in ALL states? So before you guys start casting stones about how the 'animals' should die and eat shit and be treated like they're less than humans, you'd better hope you don't kill someone while you're drunk driving after all those drunken binges because you will end up there and deal with the same situation. It's bad karma to wish a human anything less than humane treatment. Humane treatment does not mean massages and facials and stuff, either. my 2 cents, arlo I agree with you about the humane treatment of prisoners. They should be entitled to a sanitary environment free from physical injury with basic health needsand nourishment taken care of, but, at the same time, prison should be a deterrent to crime. As for animals, anyone who commits murder is nothing short of an animal. -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. I guess I got a little jaded after reading prisoner complaints to Federal judges including the wrong brand of peanut butter, not getting Charmin, no HBO, ... I also remember friends living on Ramen noodles because they were cheap. Throw in the thread yesterday about the luxuries you can buy with a minimum wage job. Add the suffering those assholes caused lots of people and I don't have a great deal of sympathy for animals getting nourishment that doesn't taste great and we have to pay for. But, I have to concede that they should get the same slop as anyone else. -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. I was told by one of the camp instructors that at 5'10" being 200 lbs or less would be a good idea for freeflying. So, I'm on a diet! RW's another story. jib
