However, the military isn't going to waste the time or money on teaching people how to FF, especially when it is harder to do then falling on ones stomach. For the military it's about getting to the fight and nothing more.*** Golden Knights have a FF team.

Funniest damn thing I have ever seen

We had an amputee lose his prothestic a few weeks ago. It was returned by a farmer who saw the "Lost Leg" sign at the local gas station. -

Any news on the Texas Record ?
floormonkey replied to kallend's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
they got the record on the first try sunday morning. -
And don't forget to inspect the actual apex line on all types of PC's (the white ribbons). It would suck pretty bad if one of those wore out, or, more commonly (though not very common) the stitching failed.

The jumper weighs about 245. A fairly new jumper, he came out of a sit, waited about 3 seconds, and deployed. We theorize he a) wasn't slowed down enough b) had a sloppy pack job and c) did not have one brake stowed properly. We sent in the rig, got it back with the stitching redone, but they did not re-crimp the housings. One of the cutaway housings (the short one) was still missing. So we sent it back in to get it fixed. They charged him something around 250-270 to fix it. Yes, they were the original risers, but I'm not sure what the situation was with them (if they charged him for new ones). He's considering getting the canopy relined with Dacron . We spent some time working on packing skills too...and he doesn't freefly much anymore.

About a month ago, we had a jumper who had a HARD opening. It tore his canopy on the right end cell from nose to tail (top skin), as well as damaging another cell. No line damage. It also broke one riser at the grommet (mini-riser) as well as doing some damage to the rig. It tore some stiching in the MLW and popped the cutaway and reserve housings out of the crimps (oddyssey). All equipment had about 60 jumps on it. (Sabre2 230, Javelin Oddyssey). Long story short, we got the canopy back from PD a few weeks later. The replaced the cells and relined the canopy, all at no charge. But the best part of the whole deal-they sent him a free packing video. Now that's service!

So, Jess, I was at the DZ today and someone told me who your SA is...

I often close rigs with pull-up cords that others can't close with the pack boys--And I am not that strong. It's a matter of leverage. As far as Sigma's, it's far easier and quicker to just wrap a piece of spectre line around the bridle and use that rather than take the time to use a tool. I used a tool at Rantoul last year for about a day (avg. about 45 rigs a day) to try it out. It was nice, but took way too much time for my taste. They also cost $15 and pull-up cords are free...

Interesting color designs for seven-cells?
floormonkey replied to ScratchTX's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Avoid a white center cell- they get a brown color with repeated packing. -
sport rigs: packing at pace is around 5-7. Busy days, about 5. Record: 3:15 (clean pack, no trash packing, Cobalt 85 in a mirage) Tandem-7 for a vector, 8-9 for a sigma. my own rig- around 5 And I never trash pack and never sacrifice quality for speed...same pack job every time regardless of time spent.

Thank you very much! I appreciate the help. jeff

I spin my 3-rings before every load. Flex my 3-ring about once every two weeks or more often. Clean my cable at least once a month, if not more. It takes less then 2 minutes to do the entire system.

A guy brought us 2 emergency rigs from Czech L39's last week. Though we really wanted to open them up, we did not because we did not have the manuals. He has been shipping them to Jim Cazar in AL to get them packed, but would like to find someplace closer (he is in TX). Does anyone have experience or manuals for these bad boys? We would like to find manuals, but would really like to watch one packed if the drive was reasonable. Anyone, anywhere, have experience with 'em?

We just sent in a Dolphin to have it modified. It now has riser and bridle protection to rival a Javelin (and it's my FF teammate's rig). You can also have the RSL routed on the other side (like most other rigs). PM me and I'll get you in touch with the guy who had it done....He had it done thru Altico, it was fairly cheap and his rig was back within 7 days.

Picking up your deployed canopy
floormonkey replied to CrazyIvan's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I always set my brakes when I land, then I can watch for traffic coming in. After all, the skydive's not over until you are packed for the next one... jess-since when do you land close to the packing room? -
hey mark, it's ok. It was fun-especially watching you try to stop those flips... brains..back off my partner...
