umm...omar g?

Now Jess, all you had to do is ask me. Give me a call and I'll tell you the way to go down this way, I've been working on it. I should be finishing soon.
-
I got in 14 last weekend, hope it helps.
-
I'm taking the weekend off to be there...see you in two weeks! Brains said he'll come too...

I always chew gum. It helps me to concentrate on breathing and not get too stuck on one point in the jump. It seems to help me relax.

Tempo Reserves after the new Aerodyne....
floormonkey replied to mindcool's topic in Gear and Rigging
Just a thought...Do PISA reserves now qualify as orphan canopies? I would think not. but does anyone know differently? -
Might check stolen gear databases...not just DZ. com, but www.uspa.org (it's under marketplace) and www.itsbeenstolen.com

Victory cleaners, 512.396.4606 From SA-take the exit before the DZ, go left (under 35). The road turns right, then left, it's on that corner. So does this mean I'm still an asshole?

Hey Jess- there's a place in San Marcos we've used to do a few alterations with no problem (and quick turnaround). They can do just about anything, I'll get their number for you if you want.

Mister Bill and Tandem question
floormonkey replied to JohnSmith's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've seen this done with a base jumper. It was VERY difficult to unhook the "passenger." As in so difficult they almost didn't get to do it. The folks involved don't really reccommend trying it. They finally unhooked at about a grand, jumped around 700, did a nice double back layout and deployed (quite low). -
I was refering to the grommets on the d-bag, not slider. This is after you have the canopy s-folded and are ready to bag it. It pins the bag in place so it doesn't slide away from you as you put the canopy in the bag. Actually, I put my knees between (or beside) the grommets, as the grommets themselves hurt.
-
I have an original Sabre 150, original slider, load it at 1.2ish, and almost always open with collapsed end cells and a slowly decending slider. I never roll the nose. As a packer, I am of the opinion that most sabre hard openings are due to sloppy packing. I don't use any magic tricks and don't usually get complaints on sabre openings.
-
There is no need to roll the nose on any zp canopy...the rest is just practice. When bagging it, if you put your knees on the grommets of the d-bag it keeps it from running away from you. There is a packing tips class next saturday (April 5) at skydive san marcos after jump operations, if you feel like driving. It costs a six-pack of good beer, and will address the problems you're having.
-
Not to take away from the story or lesson (good job, good lesson), but you cut down a whole tree to get a freebag? Hope the tree was dead...
-
most freebags have only a batch number rather than a seriel number. Many times I've seen name and number written on the freebag bridle- works well.

Has packing caused any knee problems?
floormonkey replied to meridianjumper's topic in Gear and Rigging
When I pack alot (more than 30 rigs per day) which is from about march - oct, I wear knee pads. The other packer wears pads more often- she's been doing it for 3 yars and complains about her knees all the time. I highly reccommend knee pads...I am about to make some pants and shorts with built in pads, as the wrap-around sport pads are annoying and stink. -
Extra control line on Sabre 190 and Up?
floormonkey replied to flyingferret's topic in Gear and Rigging
It is not neccessarily common, but not unheard of. My jedi master packer mentor used to do it and swore by it. I pack the same canopy without using the rubber band (it's still there, has been for over a year) and get openings that are just as sweet (or at least that's what the customer says...) -

Yeah, where's the option to choose "George W. Bush"?

PPMII, p.108 The more common connector link today is the Rapide link or French Connector called "Quick Link by the Maillon-Rapide company"
-
It's my understanding that French links are Rapide links, so called because they were made by a French company, Maillion-Rapide (I may have the spelling wrong.) RSL , or the Steven's system, is something else entirely, isn't it? edit: that was supposed to reply to Phreezone, not aggiedave.

from the PD warning addendum "Solving opening problems" "Collapisible pilot chutes can affect deployments too. The shock cord method of collapsing the pilot chute is tricky to design so that it works consistently. It must be properly designed and use only zero porosity fabric to maintain its calibration. Never use an F-111 shock cord collapsing pilot chute! It can be deadly, because the calibration speed changes rapidly as the fabric changes its porosity. We have seen many F-111 shock cord collapsing pilot chutes cause deployment problems due to inconsistency or outright failure to inflate."

Bungee PC's aren't around as much because of ellipitical canopies. According to a manufacturer, (either PD or Atair, I'll see if I can find it) bungee PC's cause funky openings, esp. on ellipticals and highly loaded canopies.

paid pack job chop, lost main
floormonkey replied to bodypilot90's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Packers mantra: Pull stable. It's amazing to me the number of AFF instructors, tandem masters, and folks with thousands of jumps who can't pull stable and get line twists on my pack jobs from time to time...lol -
I am all for gear checks and don't mean to downplay their importance - I always intend to get one, but have gotten my self in situations where they have been skipped - and I don't think I am alone - *** This is not a flame...but there is absolutly NO EXCUSE for not getting a gear check if you want one. If you are in too much of a hurry, you need to slow down. If you are too cool to get one, you need your ego deflated. If there is no one to do it, do it yourself. If folks at your DZ don't know how, teach them. If you don't want one, that's fine. Skipping a gear check if you want one is not much different then not putting on a helmet. If you want it, it's there.
