No worries, dude. Like I said, there's no laws up here dealing with this, just establishments that have decided on their own. Smokers though, here, have sued those places for banning them (even though they were always welcome, they just couldn't light up). They have, as far as I know, never won but, at least one of my favorite restarants went out of business due to one of these suits. I have a friend who doesn't even have a real 9-5 job anymore. He supports a family and has a large 2 story house of his own all off the money he earns from about 12 rental properities that he slowly bought over the years. I'm quite envious! Owning 12 rental properties can be a full time job if you have tenants who call everytime the least little thing goes wrong. Even so there's constant upkeep like painting, appliance repairs/replacements, leaky faucets, lawncare etc. However when you consider the appreciation on that much real estate, it's not a bad paying job. that depends too though. Some rental property never really increases. Wear and tear of most tenents sometimes even outpaces appreciation. It's a fine line, especially when you bring anti-descrimination laws into picture. The single mom with 9 kids that has been on welfare for 20 years and lost security deposits on 4 apartments in the last year, for example, will sue your ass in court, and win, if you don't rent to her. The best you can do sometimes is accept the fact that at some point you;re gonna take a hit and be ready for it. Those that aren't.... well.... Check the banks in your area for repo's. You're on a tangent.. That's litter not the regulation of smoking. There are laws in all the states against tossing litter out the window or throwing stuff butts the ground. Take it up with your local authorities. They'll jump through hoops to stop me from smoking in a restaurant, but look the other way when I toss my butt out the window of my truck. A tangent? Moi? I'm just giving you an idea of what they will try to regulate next, not that I would support it. Because of the power of tobacco, it will never be banned, much like alcohol (prohibition anyone?) They will try to regulate it to the extreme though. When was the last time you looked for a "Smoking allowed" apartment. How about a really, really nice apartment that also said "Smoking allowed"? See where I'm going with this? As more and more people realize just how bad smoking is for you, the more they try to 'help' those that flat out refuse to help themselves. It's your life, live it! Up here in WI we can get fishing, hunting (deer, bear, small game, ect), trapping, ect licenses. I wish they would sell a "Cig Flicker" license. No bag limit. Flick your smoke on the grass? Bang! You know what? We have NONE of these laws in Wisconsin, yet pretty much every single eatery have gone smoke free, a few clubs, and even a couple of pup type bars. Odd how they are packed darn near every night. Some establishments have gone so far as to build areas outside, sheltered and heated, for smokers to go have a butt. It's called respect. We respect your right to smoke, as long as you will respect our right to clean air. I quit almost 2 years ago. My wife still smokes. In OUR home, she smokes OUTSIDE. Why? Because she respects our CHILDREN'S right to clean air. You want to kill yourself slowly, by all means, go ahead, but you're not taking me with you. It's your life, live it! And I vote we ban RevJim from ever imbibing alchohol again. Fair is Fair O.K. but since the smoking ban would not single out a specific person, the drinking ban would also include you. Personally, I wouldn't have a problem with it. I drink not much more than a week a year (in Rantoul), and I don't drink all that much there either (too much work to do). So, go ahead! Well then - if we are going general - and people think they have the right to ban people from doing stuff - just ban jumping - I like to smoke - I like to jump - banning one and imposing your preferances on me is the same for one or the other. No, it's not. I'm not banning smoking, I'm for banning it indoors in public (indoor) places. The act of smoking produces carcinogens. You have the right to smoke. Go ahead, just go outside. Yea. My parent's 3/4 acre lot up here is worth more right now than when they bought the house in '70. Duh, right? Not really. What I mean is that if we were to level the 2 story, 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 3000+ square house, the garage turned office building across the driveway (another 750 sq feet) and the 24 x 36 pole shed with full concrete floor, the LOT would be worth more than they have paid. Leave those items I mentioned standing, and they have gained ~250 grand in equity. How in the world could that not be worth it? It's your life, live it! Pop (and others with this kind of comment) take it from someone that has gone almost 2 years without a cig. If you smoke, you smell like smoke, period. It doesn't matter if you are smoking inside or out. I can't believe I smoked so damn long. These last (almost) 2 years have been awsome! I, for one, would vote for a National indoor ban.
