Using risers etc. to control canopies flight...
freakous replied to JohnPolk's topic in Canopy Relative Work
Dear Doug student, It might be possible that "Conservative" was speaking to the original poster. You are in good hands with your mentor. "Conservative" likely doesn't want to hear about another Texas incident. If you recall, two jumpers with low time canopy experience went out with the intention of not docking. Unfortunately, they wrapped and couldn't get out. -
What would be the best way to approach a headown position?
freakous replied to Rookeskydiver's topic in Freeflying
Spleen's are hard to come by, ya don't want just any damn monkey tossing it around like poo! -
There are three DZ's right near there. That time of year, pretty much weekend only..but absolutely open. Come on out to Skydive Va in Louisa (about 45 minutes to 1/2 hour) and bring gloves. Couple of crewdogs there as well if your willing to bear the cold.

are you talking about skydiving or sex??? Talking about skydiving. But, Monkey if you ever find yourself having sex with another person, then this breathing thread is applicable at that time as well.

Why? Frap hats are next to worthless for actually protedcting your head and it makes communication difficult between the instructor and their passenger. Hook Hook, given you have a Tandem rating and are several fold more experienced then I, It was more of a liability statement. I do agree that the frap hat won't give much protection, but a little is more than none. Yes, we are in this sport because we love it and because we enjoy helping others, yet at the same time don't you try and reduce as much risk as possible? I only have five Tandem rights...three for T.I. recurrency or rating. The frap hat has not been a communication issue. But, yes obviously your experiences are going to be more meaningful.

Quote because during the tandem jump I wasn't wearing anything on my noggin while during the AFF I'm required to wear a helmet . I am really surprised that you weren't wearing a frap hat on your tandem ride.

I agree DJL, we can do some simulation's on the cutaway harness the next weathered out day. Good train of thought on wanted to be prepared though. If you know your going to cutaway you will be mental prepared (should be anyways), but I don't see how the same forces would apply. For instances cutting away a perfectly good canopy vs a diving line twist. Your body is going to be in a completly different position.

Or the rigger was just being a smartass! It is possible to do that without showing the smartass face.

Makes me think I am due for an oil change!

I keep looking for stuff to do other than work during the day. Only 30 years to retirement:-)

PSW, My apologies for speaking the truth. I will sugarcoat for you in the future.

I prefer some more lens coverage also but, I use larger lenses on my PC100. PSW, I would suggest getting a bit closer to the image you are attempting to capture. After time your skills should improve and you will be able to use a multiple range of W.A. lens.

The Monkey and I both ordered one from Cookie. It fit's pretty much like a glove! Clam shell based. It's quite obvious that the mold for a PC101 was used. They were great to deal with and provide a quality product. I suggest some type of foam shock absorber. I am still waiting on my new helmet, but I think it will work perfect!

I cooked up a healthy portion of oatmeal last night. Added brown sugar and maple syrup...quite tasty.
