THAT'S JUST WRONG! Can you tell them you have a family reunion the Sunday, Monday, Tuesday?? I mean, it is KIND OF a family reunion there! I'll send you a fake invitation if it it'll help! 'Shell

Yeah, good point. I would probably go with a monitored one. I also have a solid, trusting relationship with my neighbors and would be comfortable giving them a key and code should there be any problems or have them be a point of contact for the security company. That's cool that your neighbours are like that. I'm lucky that way too. We all watch out for each other! Sounds like you're on your way to getting your home more secure. 'Shell

Yeah. Sigh. I'm thinking it might come down to that. Still the matter of the window, though. If the window isn't reinforced glass, maybe replace it with one that is. If you get alarms that aren't monitored by a security company, if they go off when you're not home, you'll likely scare off whoever is breaking in but you'll end up annoying the neighbours as well. Well then, she's on the road to recovery already! That was the problem with my Baba too. I went to see her in the hospital the day before she had surgery. She was sitting up in her wheelchair pointing and flexing her foot on the leg that she had broken. She said she had to keep it moving so she would be in better shape to get gardening when she got out of the hospital. And she was out in the garden a week later! Best wishes to your mom for a SPEEDY recovery! 'Shell

I'd put bars over the window as opposed to keying the lock on both sides. Like it's been said already, that can make it hard for YOU to get out in a hurry if you have to! 'Shell

That's AWESOME! My dad has his replaced about 12 years ago. He's doing pretty good too. I think they're just getting those hips replaced so they can continue to kick our asses! skydiverbry ... vibes to you and your mom. Keep your mom moving around when she gets out of the hospital. It'll make a world of difference!

That's true. My Baba (grandmother) fell and broke her hip about 5 years ago (when she was 89). They told her to walk as much as possible after she got out the hospital. She's my little Bionic-Baba now (titanium hip!). She's 94 now and doing great, except her knee gives out every now and then. She's considering getting that replaced so she can be more mobile. Crazy little Ukrainian ... 'Shell

There is a pot in a lot of convenience stores. "Mickeys" They are good, but they lack the special flavor. People boil them in a drum in the front yard. Before they cook the peanuts, they boil their laundry clean. That gives the peanuts a little extra salty flavor. (Well... ok, I was just kidding about the laundry part.) (Probably) Maybe in YOUR world you can find them. Not up here in Canadia. Hmm ... laundry flavour ... probably quite yummy! 'specially the dirty socks! 'Shell

Yeah, the problem with buying in bulk is you think you have an endless supply and forget to replenish it. "Yeah, I have 2400 rolls of toilet paper ... umm wait a minute .. shit ... I'm out..." 'Shell

Boiled peanuts ... YUMMY! I've never had the handwritten-sign-boiled-pnuts but a friend of mine in FL sent me some in a foil bag ... very yummy! Wish they sold them here ... 'Shell
