why do some people have to be so fucking dumb!!!
ZoneRat replied to payback462's topic in The Bonfire
Good Lord! Does he even need a canopy, or could he just track in and swoop to his feet without it????? Kelly Bruno can run really_really_fast. lol. Also. He has several "larger" canopies that he uses if his currency isn't quite where he likes it for the smaller ones. ____________ As far as the bashing/ venting... thing goes. ok. I guess I can see that. It IS frustrating to hand someone the right answer, an important answer, and then just watch them ignore it. “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.” -

What wisdom from ZoneRat...I like that! -
Oh man, four way teams in dallas using the ff'ers to train with what will happen next Good catch! I stand by my statement. Team Vibe are good people, man. (It's a little known fact that members of our esteemed FF community actually attended a RW TSL meet last year under the name "Your Moma's Booties". There were 3-4 inside video Cameras on every jump lol. I think one person even had an RW suit too! By the 3rd round they were all goin' "Screw this. Lets go free fly."... It was killin' em. ______________ Can someone grab that Ron guy for a minute? I feel like a puppy is following me home... “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

Robin, Should I take this as the first actual advice from the coach of Dallas’ new “Flailing Terror” rookie 4 way team? Stop calling me that! I keep telling you, man. I'm no 4-way coach. Once we get a few drill dives out of the way, we'll find you someone who is. That said, You're welcome to everything I know about 4-way. (Should take about 20 minutes). My first advice as Helpful-Guy-Who's-Not-a-Real-4-Way-Coach is: ...to find a 4th... ...and yes. When "Flailing Terror" starts tuning in your High performance team landings I'll definately be on the ground with video camera in hand... to debrief any mistakes that might occur. (How much does Real TV pay for video anyway?) “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

"... because as soon as he deploys the relative wind is going to be coming up at him..." Yeah. IF he can deploy. Loose clothing likes to cover handles. No reason to scream Darwin or bowling just yet. Some folk just take a little longer to understand certain things. Until then maybe there's someone around that can take him under their wing and try to help him out. If he doesn't like receiving advice from his peers, maybe there's a coach or instructor that has the time. Hopefully his bucket of luck wont empty out before his bucket of experience fills up. “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.” -
Chest strap save on load, How common is this?
ZoneRat replied to skydonkey's topic in Safety and Training
Unacceptable. Fix that. I had a similar difficulty. My cuttaway pillow tended to fold under my harness during gear up. I always caught it, but understood it was just a matter of time before I didn't. That was unacceptable too. I fixed it. I changed my gear-up and self check methods. “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.” -
"How not to be disappointed by your TSL performance". The most important thing is to just not even care. If you can get your entire team on board with the "We're just messin' around and having fun" idea. Then you can enjoy an entire pressure free season of substandard performance... and have a great time doin' it! Here's a couple other ideas as well: 22. It's cool to be the last one to the mock-up! (Try to never get there prior to a 3 minute call... carying your gear). 23. Pass the rock really means throw the rock... as hard as you can! (Only you can talk... so it's a free shot!) 24. Jam the exit with a lit cig hangin' out cher mouth. 25. Toss the lit cig onto the floor of the creeper pad. Those skygods shouldn't be jumpin' barefoot anyway. 26. The coolest teams all do synchronized high performance hook turn landings together. Rookie teams should start learning this now. 27. Sure. You can dirt dive Saturdays competition jumps Friday night if you want. But don't forget... you're wasting valuable drinking time. And the importance of team vibe cannot be overstated. “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

Hell yeah man! Grab SDD's caravan! (903) 364-5103 skydive dallas@aol.com Ask for either Joe Reckert (DZO) or, better yet Mike Vinther (Head Pilot). I love it when the caravan is away. Means we fly the Otter regardless of load size. (Or, for that matter, I wonder if a few of us could travel with it and attend your boogie... maybe bring a packer if you need one, or an experienced L.O., camera folk... I could possibly arrange whatever compliment, if any, you think might be useful to the boogie. I dunno. Just thinkin out loud.) “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

Tell me that wasn't 3 inches of snow on the ground saturday morning I heard 5" in Whitewright. In the high performance LZ, DZ Staff built an igloo capable of holding 7 beer drinkin' jumpers in it... even had a heater in the middle... but today was quite nice. Warm even. 4 jumps. Too bad you're leaving Thursday... Coming weekend looks promising. “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

Not exactly helpful, are they. These people arent scared of heights. They're scared of rooftops. Hey. Regardless of how these people handled it, you're a different person. Skydiving might very well help you to complete your quest to not be scared of heights. Why not. After that, your next test: Adjusting the satalite dish. If you can do THAT, you can do anything! Have fun, and welcome to the forums! “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

Name 3 things many like, but you just can't figure out why

Don Rickles movies (He just seems mean) Mondrian (I just don't get it). Fermented delicacy foods (100 year old eggs... pheasant hung until ripe etc...) (And no, I've never tried). “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.” -
eh. Just make stuff up. They won't know it's wrong. ___ or you might look through the videos on the gear section here at DZ.com. Which video is it? Basic Body Flight? There's a couple videos out there that do a great job of breaking down how CG and air flow work on a skydiver. Something like that would help him out, I reckon. “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

Long Road..But, Hello, this is A-44634!!!

Alright!!!! Pretty great moment holding that card in your hand the first time, huh! Plenty more where that came from! -
Lets see... tips... ok: ~Get the video and still photos. They're both worth it. ~Dont get super drunk the night before. (Moderately buzzed should be fine). ~Wear comfortable shoes (Pretty much always good advice). ~Have fun and let us know how it goes! “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

Yeah. That's horrible advice. HORRIBLE. I did 200 jumps with that freak last year. He's capt of our 4-way team. Gad... sometimes I feel like I don't even KNOW him! Oh well. If you cant BE a hot chic, the next best thing would be to hang out with 'em at the DZ. Maybe get one to take you under her wing. She'll get ya into those kick-ass RW groups. Who knows, with any luck she might even be willing to explore a little tunnel time with ya... so to speak. So hey. Good luck on that. “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”
-
To bad you're not a hot chic. That always makes it easier. If there's just no fun jumpers around, I'd do like Aggie dave says. That or save up and hit some coached tunnel time. Be careful jumpin' after workin' all night, man... read the signs. If you start doin' stupid shit... it's probably time to turn it in. (Red Bull might not save ya...) “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

I'm not an instructor. Talk to them first. Here are my thoughts on it. Well above your hard deck, turn 90° then opposet 180°. Increase the strength of those turns until you almost or actually do invoke a line twist. Then you know where the edge of that envelope is. Try rear riser stalls before toggle induced stall. Pull both rear risers slowly until the canopy stalls. A rear riser stall is not very exciting, but you'll know it when it happens. But it's pretty underwhelming. Then you'll know where the egde of that envelope is. It's good to know as you may need to land a canopy on rear risers one day (if a break line snaps for example). Full toggle stalls are very exciting. When I do them, my canpy flares, slows, after several seconds, more than I ever think it wil take, the canopy will eventually starts to soften. Then it "bowties" (folds backwards). I feel as though a rug has been pulled out from under me. It's a very violent ride at that point. I ride it for a bit, then I lift both togles up evenly, and the canopy reinflates. Sometimes with a turn. My heart always races after a full toggle stall. Talk to your instructors before trying any of this, and be sure that you're well above your hard deck and that there is no canopy traffic near by. and have fun. “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

I have a theory about purple jumpsuits. I know purple used to be the color of royalty at one time, but these days I think people tend to equate purple with "wacky". Red may mean hot, or fire, or passion or danger. Blue emotes other things. But purple is branded as the wackiest of colors. And people enjoy the idea of skydiving being a wacky thing to do. So they kinda go together in folks minds sometimes. Hence the propensity of purple jumpsuits. And, for that matter, more power to 'em. The DZ's a great place to express your individual wackiness. I'm not against purple gear per se, but I think it's interesting that people sometimes choose colors for a jumpsuit they'd never wear in regular life. Anyway. So that's my purple jump-suit theory. “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

1 or 4. Stay away from the red. Once you get video on vhs, it's likely to "bleed" after a few viewings. Somethig th blue and black is not prone to doing. Sounds like a pretty good price for a custom made JS, btw. Congrats on not choosing purple. “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

Sparky, THAT, my friend, is something to be damn proud of! A lot of trust going on in that pic I'll bet. Well done. “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

i guess i will try sabre2 with wl 1.25. this is a dessicon that i did together with my instructors, and they said that this canopy will not be so agressive and more conservativ than the nitro 135. i know what skills you need for swooping, i dont have now. this is not my preference, but i know that size doesnt matter when you want to swoop Bravo!!! You passed the test! (We were SO SURE you wouldn't, but you did!!) Hey, great choice! Everyone I know that jumps a Sabre2 loves it. A 1.25 WL will be plenty fun for hundreds and hundreds of jumps to come! Really though. You had us worried, man. Shit'll happen over the next 100 jumps that'll make you damn glad you didn't go for the nitro. Now, for your next test... Resisting the Urge to Hook... “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

Nope. Gotta have a visual alti. Ya never know when your audible batteries might die. Plus it's good to know the altitude if you're responding a a malfunction, figuring out when to fly to your holding area, cross wind and turn to final. Sorry dude, but you're gonna have to buy one. Any working visual alti will do. “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

Cool man. Welcome to the forums and have fun! Hey I came up with an idea... I PM'd (Private Messaged) it to ya. Check it out and see what you think. “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.” -
Wow man, I dunno. You may have to go with uv/ clear sunglasses beneath your visor or somethin'. They do have uv lenses that are clear or almost clear don't they. I think so anyway. My Z1 has an aftermarket tinted shield, but it very light and others can see through it pretty easily. “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”
