What's the better story for 'em to tell their friends, family and peers: "I had a balloon ride". or: I had a ballon ride, then there was an air horn and I saw someone fall out of the other balloon! And for a second I was really worried, then I saw the canopy open... and then I remembered... oh yeah, that bastards a skydiver..." Yeah. I say go for it. There shouldn't be any permanently damaged feelings. Make sure the balloon people are ok with ballon jumps though. Don't know anything about piloting a balloon, but I understand it can be tricky with folks jumping out. “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

Just one of those little, just-fer-nuthin', random kindness things: While your sweetie is in the shower, toss a fresh towel in the dryer for a bit. Then sneak it back on the hanger about the time your sweetie comes out. Everyone likes a nice warm towel.

Welcome to the forums! Best wishes to you and yours! May you make beautiful skydives together for many, many years to come!

I would try to fix the mal all the way into whatever I happened to accidently hit. Which'd be coolest if they were the peas. Makes a better story for my friends that way. And, after impact, I would haunt them. becoming the Ghost of The Pea Pit. -My translucent visage appearing during full moon night jumps and SCR ceremonies, shaking my risers and moaning advice... As you go after the canopy on the ground, step on the pilot chute and walk up the bridal. Once you got the bridal underfoot, you're golden. If you cant handle your canopy on the ground in high winds, it probably doesn't instill great confidence in the DZO that you can handle it well getting it to the ground. Still. Sounds like an over-reaction. Buy the DZO a bag of pot and a blow up doll. He sounds tense. Oh, and Skybytch is right. She's always right. “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

Sometimes you're the black 'n, sometimes the orange 'n. Comes and goes. Hey. Life is just sloppy sometimes. Hope it gets better soon. and... it pretty much always does.

I'd be down for that. Sorta depends on when. Got a fairly full season lined up. That said, I would like to practice/ learn more about the super-floater position... PM me with the dates. If the timing works out, I'll try to drag a few others along.

SkyFest 04 In Motion! Skydive Spaceland
ZoneRat replied to upndownshop's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I'll be there. Hey man, I'll video your next attempt at the SCSA... Already got mine, you know. A few hours after you left as I recall... Skyfest is an effin blast. Did my balloon jump at Skyfest. The first SF I attended I got to watch an SCR ceremony. The second, I put my knees in the peas, (What was it... 25 cases of beer?) and this time, this time *I* get to pour... tap tap tap tap tap... Yep. Good times. “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.” -
A fencing club room is called a salle. Back in the day I was such an ethusiast, I was there evertime the doors opened. I was referred to as a "SalleRat". I was spending so much time lurking d'zone.com that it reminded me of how enthused I was at fencing, and decided to modify SalleRat to "ZoneRat". “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

Some like Chimay, others Pabst, but you know what the two best beers really are... The first one and the last one. Think I might have one of those first ones here in a sec. Happy Tuesday! “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

Although I have a little over 500 jumps, probably about 50-75 are FF. I can sorta hold a neutral sit. Control heading and level. Back-loop. That's about it. Everytime I've tried a cartwheel I end up facing 180° the wrong way. No idea why. Except for hybrids, I won't go on a FF bigger than a threeway. Would I be allowed to attend this meet? I can see the scrambles format as a fun and inexpensive way to get much needed coaching. That would absolutely draw me to San Marcos. Along with several of my darkside and sorta-darkside friends. (btw: An end of the day sunset VSCR hybrid sounds tasty... assuming the skill levels are there to pull it off safely... I'd belly-fly the hell outa that... just a thought ) “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

Laid off. Downsized. Displaced. Freakin' ditched.
ZoneRat replied to ACMESkydiver's topic in The Bonfire
Me too. Since last June. I live pretty lean by habit, so I have/ had zero debt, a small apartment and a fairly decent wad of cash when it happened. It's been an interesting test of character. No wife, no kids, some money and all the time I want to accomplish anything I choose. So what did I choose? Did I write a novel? Do charity work? Start a business? No. All I want to do is skydive. Kinda pathetic really. Not exactly sure I'm passing that test... It's been a hell of a fun ride though. -
My only brush with fame: I fenced with Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson At Texas Tech U in lubbock in the mid 80's. He hung with the fencing club while the rest of the band played soccer with the team. Lefty. He barely beat me in foil. 10-touch/ win by two: The final score was 14-16. Kicked his ass hard in Epee, though. When he lost he claimed he was saving his legs for the concert that night. Whatever. “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

Robin, congrats on your 500th! Hopefully, I'll be doing my 1000th this coming Saturday. D.J. 1000?!? Well alright! Sounds like a celebration to me! I'm there! Hey... bummer I didn't get to meet more of you dz.comers. Wanted to. But 'cakes is such a damn purist about 4-way training... “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

Nice. Very nice. I love the fact you chose to include the part when your S.O. was positioning the goggles prior to her tandem. Her hands were trembling so. But she went through with it. Brave. I'll bet that jump meant the world to her. “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

Can anyone suggest the wording of a question like this that may have a specific answer? Including proper terms? Q: What is the minimum recommended altitude for an expert skydiver to deploy his parachure? A: 2000' AGL (Above Ground Level). or A: The minimum deployment altitude for an expert skydiver. Q: What is 2000', Alex? (The term "expert" might cause a skydiver to raise an eyebrow, but it's forgivable (slightly antiquated) use of the term. Also, there might be other minimums in other countries if that matters to you. Not real sure. Good luck on it. Chest strap save on load, How common is this?
ZoneRat replied to skydonkey's topic in Safety and Training
One was caught on a load yesterday. Chest strap was not routed at all. Just hanging there. The guy was an old hand jumper with over a decade in the sport and thousands of dives under his belt. Usually we have a loader at the plane to give a quick visual as he helps people onto the plane, but staff was light that day. In the air, everyone is everyone's best friend. “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.” -
Easy now.... Hell I'll go with ya. After our "uneventful skydive" we can do a chain pull. “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

I hear ya, man. Congrats on the rating. Recently got mine as well. Many have helped me along the way. And, thankfully, continue to do so. I'm looking forward to paying it forward. “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”
