  1. Basik or Abatros in Europe... Not helpful, i know!
  2. I've come across a few sliders that were made with 1" tape instead of the usual 3", but i've found no details of which tape it is. Anyone have any ideas which is it they use? The only tapes of similar tensile strength to the 3" tape as far as i can see are type 2 and type 4, but they seem much heavier than the ones i've seen used. Also the sliders i've seen using the narrower tape are reinforced by added tapes (PdF has 2 support tapes in an x pattern like a CRW spider slider, and others of unknown origin have 2 tapes running parallel along the span) sugesting the tape used is a different flavour. Type 3 maybe? Something else?
  3. Just change the .wav files in the folder keeping the size at around 4k. Once a friend asked to borrow my flysight, and i loaded the audio folder with fruits/foods names instead of numbers before handing it to him...
  4. I thought of you the other day... I went to a dz in Italy and took all my docs with me for registration. Within those i had a german airwortiness card for my main, which is like a reserve packing card showing periodic inspections of the main by a rigger. When i asked him (the CCI) if they needed that in Italy his reply was a snigger and "we don't do that here. You can even make yourself your own canopy and jump it if you want". It could be of interest to you
  5. Oh, right. My bad, i misunderstood i think. No problems here understanding what different effects different length settings have, and have my preferred set up nailed for me. Was just wondering if there was a relationship between canopy size/line lenght and brake line length/factory slack if within a particular model. I guess the answer is probably not. Or maybe. Or sometimes yes sometimes not, or whatever
  6. Assuming the same flying style in both canopies, then that shouldn't matter should it? If the risers are the same with the guide rings in the same position, you need the same amount of line to reach the risers and pull them regardless of canopy size. The slack you need is the distance from guide ring to the lower position of the front riser when pulled. So if that distance is, lets say 12 inches, then you need 12 inches of slack regardless if you are flying a 120 or a 135. Distance from guide ring to front risers might be a little shorter in a smaller canopy due to less spread from the shorther chord, but that would probably be negligible.
  7. You may be right, I've tried both versions in normal dose only. Would have increased it but i didn't need to as the chewing gum pretty much sorted me out, so no need for me to go to the harder stuff.
  8. I do have the feeling that's the correct answer No harm in asking though
  9. Here's a question about something i've been mulling over. Is there a rule of thumb of sorts to 'carry on' brake line length adjustments in different sized same model canopies? For example, if i shorten or lenghten 2 inches on a 150, then on a 135 i would: a/ Shorten/lengthen 2 inches as the factory setting will all have the same amount of slack in the lines. b/ Shorten/lengthen as a proportion of the brake line length. So if the brake lines on the 135 are 9/10ths of the ones in the 150 then i'd shorten/lengthen them by 9/10ths of 2 inches. This assumes shorter lines will have less slack, which i figure is wrong. c/ Or it simply cannot be guessed as the manufacturer may actually leave more or less slack in different sizes that may not be quite 'linear'?
  10. Just thought i'd report back with my results. After a few months of experimenting with various meds and 'tricks' i got good results and the sinus problems are a thing of the past I've singled out chewing gum as the most effective treatment. Still feels like it wants to happen, but it keeps it in check just enough. Sudafed/etc on its own is barely effective and still results in slight pressure/pain. Sinus meds + gum combo is not more effective than gum alone. When i don't have either and i'm able to (i.e. in an airliner) equalising pressure by pinching the nose and very gently blowing/inhaling like scuba divers gives good enough results if a little short lived in long descents. YMMV, but it may be helpful to someone out there
  11. Excellent. So if it was a bomb it would be harmless in the hold Downright comedy alike the Victorinox shop in Zurich aiport where you can buy knives, airside...
  12. They are HMA, but yes, similar problem over time. However i haven't found anyone in the UK yet who has a press for SS grommets, so it'll be brass in the meantime as i'm looking at just getting this canopy in the air and i'll be getting a slider ordered from somewhere.
  13. Right, thanks guys. I think i'll wipe off the tarnish from slider 1 and pop to see a local rigger who can change grommets and see what he thinks, as the 2nd slider definitely needs them changed and will be handy for another canopy i got.
  14. I bought a second hand canopy and, rather nicely i thought, the seller sent me 2 sliders with it. On close inspection though, he wasn't as nice as i thought he was... One of the sliders is somewhat burred, with noticeable groove marks from the lines, and there's a little bit of surface rust making it feel rather rough in those areas. The other one is even worse, in that the grommets have been set badly and there are some nasty sharp sections in the inner bottom areas of the grommets... So the question is. Is it feasible to clean the rust and give a light sanding to slider 1 to smooth things out? Can the same smoothing altbeit a bit more 'vigorously' be done to slider 2? Or do i have to find myself another slider? Can post pics later if it makes a difference and someone is curious, but just considering my options at the moment. Cheers (edited for typos)
  15. Good point about line lengths. That does makes a lot of sense
  16. I got a low bulk reserve paired with a high bulk main, meaning i'm jumping a 135 with a 170 in the back-up department One reason it's being bandied about for different sized main/reserve is that in a 2 out situation not having a bigger dominant canopy may increase the chances of it turning into a downplane, but the hard data on that is thin on the ground...
  17. Minor differences between them, slider sizes being one of them. Been sent the measurements already though, so i guess for 'archival' purposes in case someone searches for it in the future and stumbles upon this thread they are 41x69cm Cheers all
  18. Anyone has a Nitro (not Nitron) and a measuring tape and fancy measuring the slider? PR guys are closed for holiday and can't find the specs anywhere. Found the ones from PA but they may be different... Thanks!
  19. I don't time exactly how long i warm it up. I turn it on for the lenght of a coffee and cigarette before 1st lift. Then for a minute or so in the flight line, and then i turn it on about 3000ft before exit. It usually fixes to about 8 or 9 satellites by the time i jump.
  20. Yeah, but as you can see in the .csv it's not lacking satellite fixes. 8 and 9 in the attached files when it stops recording data
