On the whole, I would still rather be shot by a taser than by a bullet. Remember that at least part of the anti-taser propaganda is sponsored by gun manufacturers that are worried about profit losses from less-than-lethal weapons. Sure, the security and police need to be better educated about the lethal potential, and use them with the same judgment that they would use a gun. It's not a toy. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. If Obama starts and illegal, unjustifiable war and kills hundreds of thousands of civilians in the process, as well a thousands of our own troops, then I think he will deserve to have shoes thrown at him, and I will be happy if they find their target. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Lawsuit: Bailout Funds Used in 'Shariah' Financing
riddler replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
Seems to be the case here. The main concern that one guy, out of a three-person panel that tries to help Muslims buy houses, has a dad with some archaic religious beliefs about anti-americanism. Of course, some people will tell you "they" are all the same, so one's guy's jihad father will make sure his son does exactly what he's told. Which makes perfect sense to me, because I absolutely believe everything my parents tell me about God (NOT), and I do everything they tell me (NOT). And I'm sure the one guy will bully the two others into doing what his father wants If you're not one of us, you're one of them That goes for your dad, too. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD -

I was referring to the doomsdayers who continue to change their story when the end of the world doesn't actually come on said date. All of the revisions to the Bible are nothing more than a similar pattern of changing the story when it doesn't suit someone. As far as proving that stories in the Bible didn't happen - as has already been pointed out many times on this forum, one cannot disprove the existence of something. It can only be proved. So far, the Bible's version of the Great Flood (which was a retold story from Ancient Greece), has yet to be proven. If you have "faith" in the story, then good for you. But I take exception when you tell me that something is true when it has not been proven. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

I don't see any evidence that this is related to Palin. Or that the arsonist was a man. Churches are subject to vandalism all over the country - it might be political, or it might be someone that had a falling out with that church, or any number of other things. With about 100,000 Iraqi dead, it's a good possibility that the reporter had friends and maybe even family killed by Americans. If another dictator came to the US and killed our friends and family, it would be entirely appropriate to throw shoes at him. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Bill is more generous than I am. The intent of the NKJV was to update grammar and vocabulary of the old KJV. There was no intention whatsoever to restore historical anomalies, change dates, or facts stated, and is applied mostly to the new testament, not the old. Therefore, the "facts" that were collected together in one book, thousands of years after the events of the old testament, and hundreds of years after the events of the New, revised several times over the next thousand years, and finally revised again into the KJV in the 1600s, only to be revised again in the NKJV in the 1970s and 80s has less truth to it than just about any other document ever created. For example, I would consider the Great Flood as more historical than divine, but it is nothing more than a repetition of the Deluge, which stems from Greek stories of ancient deities that destroy civilization for retribution of our "sins". It's true that in the past, there have been floods. That's about all the truth you can take away from the story of Noah's Ark. You are certainly entitled to your belief, but to me, all of the Bible "historians" sound exactly like Chuteless - how many times do you need to revise the story after it's proven false? Umm. Riiiiigght. You must've been there to witness those goings-on? I will refer you to some basic info about the King James Bible. This, for example: Or maybe you were talking about the Bibles before the Hampton Court Conference. Maybe the Bishop's Bible? Or the Great Bible? Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Sorry about that! Yes, there were Allied losses in many other countries in addition to the Iraqi civilian deaths. Of course, the US bullied other countries into joining the coalition by threatening trade reprisals, even against friendly countries. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

If you can afford it, and you don't need that much HD space, get it. But if you are using the Microsoft OS, which takes up way too much space, don't get it yet. The major difference that you will notice is that they are much, much faster than older hard drives. If you have a super-fast platter drive (i.e. older technology), they can compete with solid-state in terms of speed, but most people don't have HDs that are that fast, and most people will see drastic improvements in the speed of their computers because of SS. Another improvement - if you drop your laptop, you are much less likely to lose your data. Within five years, SSHDs may comprise about 30% of the market, but they will probably always have less storage space than the old-fashioned hard drive. Hybird machines that contain both will likely become more popular. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

I need to find a single female that likes skydiving.
riddler replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in The Bonfire
With a ratio of approx 10 males: 1 female, you're lucky to get one. What I think the original poster intended was "I need skydiving females to get 10 of their single female friends to start skydiving". Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD -
Although I was, and still am, against the Iraq war, I don't think it was a complete loss. Saddam Hussein was killed - he was a bad guy, and I'm not sorry to see him dead. There's no way in Hell it was worth 4,000 American lives, 3 trillion dollars, and many countless innocent Iraqi lives (many children included). But at least he's dead. The worst part is that the guy we should have been chasing (OBL) is still very much alive. I hope Obama makes good on his promise to find him and kill him. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Just curious, and I'm asking without intending to offend anyone. But if the Bible is not literally true, does that mean the 10 commandments are really only general guidelines? I mean, isn't it hard to separate what you think might be the word of God (i.e. literally true) from what may just be a parable that shouldn't be taken literally? If everyone is allowed to judge for themselves which parts of the Bible are worth following, and which aren't true, then it seems like the entire foundation of western religion is null and void. It's an opinion piece by someone that doesn't have the qualifications to accurately gauge public reaction. Anyone can make a statement like "the liberals are running scared" and cite a few bloggers to try to prove your point, but if you want to be believable, you should have a resume with some real political journalism experience, not coffee-shop gossip about what teenagers are doing after school. Really, I was just citing your source, since you failed to do so. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5j_VOb3zVS3vv_AwJNWJklb5G0RHg I wonder if this pisses off the religious right? I know plenty of Christians that will swear that the Bible is 100% true and the work of God. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Depends on if your product is addictive enough to support a labor union Most beer companies have unions, Budweiser just sold for $52 million, Coors doesn't have a union, and they are doing just fine, too. The corner alcohol store never seems to suffer when there's a recession. New cars are nice, but not addictive. Most families in the US have two or three cars - in the south, they prop old cars up on blocks as lawn art. We're so oversaturated with cars, they are a luxury. We can live with not buying them when gas is high, and our old cars still work OK, or some people learn to take the bus. The US auto market is bloated and overprices, and deserves some trimming, IMO. I oppose the auto bailout. I haven't bought a new car in 10 years, and I plan to never buy a new car again. They'll have hard times without a bailout, but hopefully they'll get so desperate they'll think about making an inexpensive car that uses very little gas and lasts a long time. Of course, it's a pipe dream. The airline bankruptcies didn't exactly improve air travel Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
