I see discrimintation in te U.S., based on religion, and supported by both the media and portions of the government of the US. I think you probably see the same thing, based on your statement My question is, why are Muslims being discriminated against? Why not pick on Zoroastrians? Or Hindus? Long story made short - a person of mexican descent was driving in Connecticut, the police suspected him of a road rage incident, rammed his car, then suspected him of having a gun, and beat the crap out of him. One police officer fired, the other two go free, the victim gets $100K settlement. Victim didn't have a gun and was never charged in the suspected road rage incident. My question is, if you are this driver, what do you do? Are you justified in fighting back, or will you just end up in jail for that? If you do have a gun, are you entitled to defend yourself? It seems like the only thing to do is to take your beating. Is that the way it works with the police? If they decide to beat you, your best action is to be passive and take the beating? Nice thing about editorial pieces - they don't need to have any facts, speculation will do nicely. The only "evidence" I read in that article was that the approval process for obtaining guns for pilots has slowed down, in the opinion of a few un-named people that were asked about it. I would think right-wingers would chalk this up to our grossly overpaid and inefficient government before labeling it as a left-wing agenda. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD -
The church used to call AIDS a gay disease, and now that's politically incorrect, so we'll use fear of HIV to promote our anti-birth control agenda I guess needle-sharing drug users are not a problem??? I talked to some Jehova's Witnesses (who do not believe in blood transfusions), and they used the HIV-from-blood-transfusions argument as a justification for their beliefs. I grew up with an older brother and a tough, single German mom. My brother and I cried maybe 2 or 3 times a year, between the two of us. If we yelled or made a fuss, my mom would "give us something to cry about" (believe me, I still have scars). Now I have a 2-year old girl and a 10-month old girl. There is more screaming and crying EVERY MORNING than I ever did in an entire year growing up. But they are very cute, so it makes up for it they give you a hug afterwards One problem is that I can't tell if they're really hurt or not - they can turn it off and on like a faucet. When my oldest was teething, we couldn't tell, because it was the same level of screaming and crying that we've always heard. When she broke her arm, we couldn't tell at first, because it sounded the same as when she would fall on her butt and scream. Now, I tell her the story of the "girl who cried wolf" - maybe someday, the lesson will sink in. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Why not remove the word Muslim anytime we use the word terrorist? Is it any more relevant than saying a "christian terrorist"? I don't recall Terry Nichols referred to as a Christian Terrorist, but he was. Somehow, I doubt that polling is a good method of guaging public opinion in Afghanistan. If you're not in the city, then you're not going to be part of any poll, most of the rural farmers don't have telephones. And even in third-world countries, the people in cities are far more liberal than those in the country. I'm willing to bet for every person in the city that was actually polled, there are at least a few folks in the country with far more traditional values. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD -

Not relevant - maybe that's the excuse the media uses to remove the word terrorist from any white mass-murderers. The 15 people killed in Germany probably weren't that relevant, which is why the perpetrator was only referred to as a "teen gunman", and not a terrorist. I, too, have been reading about renewed acts of violence in northern Ireland. So far, none of the reports I've read have called any of the murderers there "terrorists" - the closest I've seen are reports that terrorism may return to Northern Ireland. What about the ones that have already killed several police officers there? Why haven't they been labeled as terrorists? Dissidents, rioters, nutters, idiots, but not terrorists. I teach both. Skydivers win. You'll rarely see a "sport" like scuba, where so many people are overweight and out of shape - you don't have to be in good shape to be suspended in water - in the Caymans, they'll even carry your gear to the end of the boat, dress you, and push you into the water. Think of the fat people in the movie "Wall-E" - that about describes many scuba divers I know. OTOH, I'd rather hang out with scuba divers - they aren't a bunch of assholes, like many skydivers are. A man in Miami killed his ex, mother-in-law, step-daughter and her boyfriend, then killed himself. No one's calling him a terrorist. In Mexico, nine bodies were found, in what is being called an act of "extreme violence among warring drug cartels". We used to call the IRA terrorists. Now, the Irish fringe are labelled "police killers". The guy that killed 10 people is labelled a "disgruntled loner". But anytime there is violence in the Arab world, it seems to get labelled as the work of "muslim terrorists" or "muslim extremists". I don't remember the last time I heard the word terrorist, without it being preceded by Muslim or Iraqi or Taliban or Jihad. What about all the Christian terrorists? I'm sure more than half of the white people that commit mass-murder are probably Catholic, Baptist or some other form of Christian belief. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

In about two years, according to the labor-statistics guessers. Already in four states (including California), unemployment is higher than 10%, and it's expected the entire country will peak at 11% next year. Add in self-employed and underemployed, and you get 15%-20% that are looking for work. Two more years of joblessness, on top of the year or more that many people have been out of work. Ford doesn't deserve the contempt that is due to GM and Chrysler. Things aren't good for them either, but they said they didn't need a bailout yet - they were smart enough to manage their money and have enough in reserves to make it another year. Now they're doing what everyone else is doing - finding creative ways to cut costs. I have a 10-year old F-150, never had a problem with it - great truck, good company. I bought that auto because an older F-150 that I was driving was hit by a semi, and I lived - a smaller car would have been the end of me - but I never had any problems with that truck either.
