    What I got out of it: 1) Neoclassical, supply-side macroeconomics (as embraced by fresh-water economists) doesn't work for market collapse. In other words, a completely free market is a really bad thing, bubbles are real. 2) Keynesian, demand-side macro (relegated to salt-water economists) does a better job of describing recessions and depressions, but it's far from perfect. 3) No macro models incorporate core individual financial elements, such as limited capital by individuals and corporations, or the fact that people will pull out of the market entirely to keep their houses.     I admit I was totally wrong. I thought these guys were all like sexually-repressed, or something, and that's why they end up in airport bathroom stalls, trying to grope underneath at the unsuspecting dude in the neighboring stall. But this guy isn't repressed at all! He's getting more than most guys. Of course, this may all be a new experience for him, and that's why he needs to brag about it.     If it was such a grave miscarriage of justice, then an honorable man would probably do everything he could to make sure the whole world knew about it (including not profiteering from the opinion/information?) I don't know if the man was innocent or not. I do care that the government says he is guilty, and still released him for money. At that point, it's not a government, it's an extortion ring.     I really believe the right-wing is correct in this matter. The czars should be vetted by Congress, considering the amount of power they wield. And just as soon as we have the next Republican President, we'll start doing that. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

    Exactly as I would have said it. I am generally against war, but if someone comes and attacks you on your own land, you have a right to fight back. This is opposed to the second war in Iraq, that was inexcusably justified (based on the statement of ONE habitual liar), without cause (seeing as how the WMD was a lie), politically motivated (by an unethical president), and poorly planned (in that we are STILL there).     While there hasn't been direct challenge of Obama, George Will challenged Secretary of Defense Robert Gates on the subject. Gates did not back down, and has said that he supports even more troops there. I believe our mission there should be to find and kill OBL. We owe him that, after 9/11. But I propose a "trigger" on the effort. If we are unable to do that, say within a year, then we should get out. And if we do find an kill him, we should again, get out. We don't need anymore nation-building in the middle east. It costs too much for our troops and our wallets, and I don't think we even have the right to begin with. Trapped on the surface of a sphere.     Well, to restate my position again, I'm fine if Scotland says he is innocent and then releases him. If so, then they fucked up, and a man lost much of his life because of it. But they are not saying he was innocent. They are saying he was guilty. AND they released him. AND it's becoming clear that he was released for oil.     Seems like the "assholes" comment was directed at Congressional Democrats, not Republicans. But the interesting part of this story is this: The appointment of Czars has always been the privilege of the White House, and not Congress.     I didn't vote for Obama because he's African American. I voted for him for other reasons. But I want to say that I'm excited to see an African American President address school-age children. I live in the city, and next to section 8 (low-income) apartments. Many of the children there are poor and feel that they'll never be anything but poor, and yes, some of them feel that they can't be successful in a white-man's world. I know that they are just repeating what their parents are saying. But if just a few kids see an African American President addressing them, one who is articulate and educated, even after he himself made mistakes as a young man, and they think to themselves that they really can make themselves into something better, then all of the rest of the controversy is irrelevant to me.     ... webbed gloves? When I started jumping, eight years ago, I saw several camera people that used these. I don't think I've seen a pair on anyone in the past several years.     There wasn't hysteria, but Bush Sr. was criticized by the Democrats for the school speech. It just wasn't full of right-wing propaganda, such as "socialist", etc. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
