  1. errgh! I HATE datapipe. What lookup server did you use? Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  2. sent with full headers to abuse@bellsouth.com On a related note, anyone notice how hard it has become to trace headers? Is this because SPAM software has gotten so much better, or is it just because I suck? Received: (qmail 13609 invoked from network); 17 Jan 2003 15:39:02 -0000 Received: from mail301.mail.bellsouth.net (HELO imf01bis.bellsouth.net) (205.152.58.161) *This one is valid* by 64.106.135.200 with SMTP; 17 Jan 2003 *This one is not* I can't reverse look it up. 64.106.135.0 returns nothing, 64.106.0.0 returns nothing, and I don't want to go to the top level of a class a network. I can ping all of these, so my guess is it's not registered, and I again guess it's an entire network set up for spamming. 15:39:02 -0000 Received: from your6kr4zxld90 ([68.153.112.252]) by imf01bis.bellsouth.net (InterMail vM.5.01.04.19 201-253-122-122-119-20020516) with SMTP id ; Fri, 17 Jan 2003 14:57:37 -0500 Message-ID: Trapped on the surface of a sphere. 3. Got spam from: www.SpecialOperationsJewelry.com sojewelry@bellsouth.net Anyone know who this is? I have doubts that it's anyone that jumps, but I thought I would check. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  4. Sure - what better way to show your canopy how much you like it. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  5. While working on flight software verification and validation at Lockheed Martin, my boss decided we needed a new name. My group was responsible for Computer Operations for our flight lab, as well as real-time validation. I proposed "Computer Operations and Validation in Real-Time". Ack was COVIRT, which my boss thought was cool, but didn't think the customer would like it, since some of our payloads were classified. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  6. I love my tri 190 - it will treat you nicely. Soft openings, good landings. It's a little behind the technology curve, but a great canopy. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  7. If I wanna see a 60-foot lava lamp, I'll use my own LSD, thank you very much. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  8. I live in the middle of a large urban area, a mile from the center of the city. When I first bought my house, there was a cute little bar called Brick's that was just on the opposite corner with a sign saying they showed the local football games on Sundays. My girlfriend and I thought it was cute - our own little neighborhood Cheers. My mom came over one Sunday and her and my girlfriend went there to watch the game while I was getting a refrigerator delivered, and I joined them afterwards. When I walked in, I was immediately scanned head to toe by every other man at the bar. Yes, the friendly neighborhood Cheers was not just a gay bar, but a *flamin* bar - the bartender was dressed in drag and there was _plenty_ of tongue-kissing, ass-grabbing and semi-nudity during the game. Of course, my mom and girlfriend has already ordered drinks, so I was obliged to watch the entire game in between strip-teases on the bar, gay body-shots and music by the Village People. My girlfriend thought it was funny - she kept telling me that some blonde guy at the bar couldn't keep his eyes off me and was getting ready to ask him to come have drinks with us. That is my neighborhood Cheers. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  9. This is why I bought a wetsuit as the first thing for scuba. Think about renting a wetsuit that someone else peed in. I'm sure it gets washed out quickly, but just the thought .... Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  10. Many things are associated with a full moon - if you look at a lunar calendar, you will see the next six days have what many people would consider a full moon (or mostly full) - that makes up close to a quarter of the total moon phase, which is why it's easy to associate things with a full moon. Few things in life give you better odds. You might do better if you say everything good or bad happens while you sleep - that's about 1/3 of your life. If you look at the moon right now (6:15 pm MST), you will see it very close to Saturn (just to the right of the moon). A nice view. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

  15. Congrats narci - four years is longer than I've ever made a relationship work. But I'm tryin' dammit! Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  16. I'm with you, missing man formation with scattering of ashes AFTER any useful organs are donated (for people, NOT research). The heat from cremation tends to coalesce (sp?) some body fluids into crystallized solids that resemble gemstones. If you look at human ashes, you will see lots of them. I took part of my dead grandmother to the UK and threw her ashes from the bluff of Edinburgh tower. She always said she wanted to travel the world, but could never afford it On the way over, I sat next a CUTE english girl with cute English accent. I think I had her on the hook until I showed her grandma Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

  18. no hits, bit one bullet, and was awarded some sort of medal. I feel like I just fought in a war. Do I get any veteran's benefits? Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  19. The safest thing to do is not participate in sex. Ever again. For the rest of your life. This goes for viewing pornography as well (see the Pete Townsend thread). Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  20. I'm really surprised the punishment for virus writers is so lame. If someone steals millions from a company in white-collar-type crime, they typically get jail sentences for many years. I don't think the justice department understands how many millions or billions in damage these viruses do to individuals and corporations. Virus writers often get no more than a slap on the wrist when they're caught. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  21. "Honestly, officer - she looked 18 in the photograph." The difficulty with child porn is the assumptions. Someone says "pedophile", and everyone assumes Micheal Jackson and a six-year old. But would we hold the same opinion of a 19 year old having sex with a 17 year old? I think most people are in favor of eliminating child exploitation. But I have to ask myself - is this really an attempt to do that, or is it a right-wing effort to eliminate all pornography from the Internet? After all, you can't exactly tell someone's age from a photograph. Did Townsend have pics of a child, or was it cached images of a pop-up ad for "nasty-teen-sluts"? 22. I'm with you Erno - the numbers don't add up for this one. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  23. Smother with a pillow until they stop snoring. The world needs fewer snorers. Seriously, how did evolution allow this to happen? I would have thought that as the snoring cave-people were sleeping, the sound would attract wolves that ate them in their sleep. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  24. Jeannie and I will probably be there. I'm a virgin. J has been there and talks about it all the time. I'm up for a grand entrance, if anyone else wants to. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  25. F is a bitch - no doubt. Ask anyone that starts learning to play. Try it on a steel string with unfriendly action. All I can say is keep practicing. You will get it eventually. I've been playing for 10 years and I still have trouble with F. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
