  1. Overall all pretty good for a newer 4-way team. Just some quick stuff 1. No matter what anybody says Caravan exits are not the same as an otter. The air is just different possibly due to prop location. 2. Gotta let go of the door sooner and trust your grip on the bar. Sooner or later they will pin your hand in the door, and that sucks. 3. I don't know what kind of suit you are flying or your body type. But as soon as you let go of the bar you need to start tracking up the hill. The horizontal distance from the team on exit is crucial, it will dictate if they are in frame and if you are in danger of hitting their burble on the hill. 4. The freefall footage was very solid. If you are used to shooting tandem video you usually are lifting your chin. 4-way is the opposite, you usually want to tuck your chin a little. The way I think of it is putting whoever is in the bottom of the frame more towards the center. It helps keep everybody in frame. Also if the top person is starting to leave frame its easier to lift your chin a little. 5. Learn the point of no return when flying over them. Only way to know it is to find it. Let the team know you might land on them once or twice to find where not to be. Best thing to do when you do find it is not to try to stay up but instead just track through the burble. 6. And of Course Jump, Jump, Jump. Only way to get better is to keep training.
  2. http://reallyrightstuff.com/ProductDesc.aspx?code=B26&type=0&eq=&desc=B26-Video-Plate%3a-Fore%2faft-plate-with-pin You can use this mount minus the box and easily swap between mounts
  3. it terms of sheer space the Vapor Pro wins hands down. Its wider than the FTP. However the Vapor Pro does have a rounded forehead so mounting things on the front its a little trickier. I have had instances on both the FTP and the Vapor's latching system getting knocked loose by riser slaps (actually lost a vapor that way). Just adding some extra info.
  4. bob I knew you were more than a typical student for some reason. I now know the reason. thanks for the search engine
  5. The plane crashed in Canada, not at Lodi. And, how many planes have crashed at Lodi? At a minimum, 3. Might help to elaborate on that. The one i know of for sure was the KA 200 that had a nose gear failure
  6. I had planned on switching to gopros for a 4way team i was on, but the rest of the team shot that idea down. If i ever am on a team I will definitely be trying them out
  7. http://www.adventuresofabrokensoldier.com/1/post/2013/04/wed-apr-3-2013.html I am all for running a business, but above that I am 100% behind veterans or in front of them if the situation calls for it.
  8. only dz that is going every day is lodi. However lodi is not a group member and is 2 hours from SF if that is a factor.
  9. N3's UI is way easier and is USB rechargeable. Viso II's batteries last a really long time, software has never had an issue, and you can't beat L&B's customer service. If you need something that can be "multi-tasked" then get the N3 as it can be used as an audible also.
  10. gasoline is basically a hydro carbon. In a perfect combustion situation the only byproducts are carbon dioxide and water. So water is supposed to be a by-product of this process. Yes water is normal. Basically water is formed and if the exhaust pipe isn't hot the water vapor cools to liquid water. When the exhaust pipe is hot it remains water vapor. Next time you get the chance stick your hand at the end of an exhaust pipe after the car has been running a while and see if your hand gets wet.
  11. trailing is safer for beginner teams. Harder to miss a count when you trail, also they will usually take a while to break the first point, which gives you time to get into position.
  12. Some international teams (Russian Black Kats for sure French Womens I think) the camera guy leaves very early. The key to nailing every exit is knowing whether the team launches the formation steep (meaning very vertical), or flat. My last team would launch most things very steep, so it was very easy to lead. However things like N or Q would just launch flat, so those I would "trail". By trailing I mean I would leave when the last half or quarter of the formation was clearing the door.
  13. just an fyi. If the camera flyer's view from 8x10 eloy is the next pic, its a bust, unless the angle changes and you can see the center grips before they move on to the next point
  14. IIRC he has around 10 seconds of freefall before the premature opening. What is the normal jumping altitude over there ?

  16. he didn't hit the lz, he did hit near the main hanger. The lz and the hangar are at opposite ends of the runway from each other. just to clarify. edit: wording
  17. Cross post from the incident thread quoting myself here. Just to add some light on the incident. I was their the next day and heard from the first person on the scene and the manager, as well as everybody else that was working that day. The velcro that is being listed is what is leftover from the rig previously being a leg throw-out. Every person that rents gear is expressly told (I have briefed people this as well), that they are NOT to freefly in the rental gear. Homeboy had been flying in the tunnel recently and wanted to show off his back flying madskillz. SMB prohibits camera use by anybody with less that 200 jumps.

    TI Q

you forgot having a different wing loading on any every jump. As for the OP. Man up and try it and you might find the answer.
  19. That "kid" (who was well in his 40's) is alive because he got lucky plain and simple. His container had separated from the harness and he was trailing his reserve PC. When he went to make a turn the colin's lanyard disconnected his riser. Had that gear not have a skyhook who knows what would have happened. Maybe the reserve would have extracted at 250 and went into a downplane?? I for one am glad Jim is ok, but he was lucky. He did his EP's "wrong" according to what was taught to him, but it quite possibly saved his life.
  20. lots of people may disagree, but the GoPro3 Black shoots pretty darn good video.
  21. http://beforeitsnews.com/opinion-conservative/2013/01/secret-gun-rights-provision-in-obamacare-2556046.html At least one great thing is gonna come from Obama care. Big Thanks Harry Reid
  22. Standard RSLs are simple proven technology, skyhook is complicated new technology. For me the potential issues and add complexity of the skyhook is not worth the 150' quicker it gets your reserve open in. I still don't understand how the skyhook is a "complex" system
  23. Quote1. Safety 2. Students value for money 3.? Quote Has south park taught you nothing? Stage 3 is Always PROFIT! But congrats on figuring out stage 2
  24. easy unarmed targets clumped together in tight quarters. Fish in a barrel. Sad truth
  25. one thing to remember is yoshi is a pretty small guy, so freeflying at tandem speeds is a little easier.
